*I'm not sure* but I'm thinking it's mainly due to people being inside and isolating a lot more, so they spend more time on the Internet as a result. That and the pandemic (and other things too maybe) creating a lot of uncertainty and fear in people, so it's a relief for them to look into the "why" about stuff.
This could be wrong and/or other big factors involved, but this is what I personally think.

Can’t believe 30k people disliked this. This is my 5th time coming back to this video. It’s so moving. I get sad when I see Kobe, Gianna, Chadwick and Ruth. So many people lost their lives last year, it’s amazing how they were able to capture such sadness and hope all in one video in 3 min.
Some people think they are so smart and aware by hating on everything google makes because they think Google care about their useless personal information.

I don't know what those people are talking about, talking about "bots" and what not. It saddens me sometimes to always come to the realization, that there are some people, who for some reason(sometimes appearing to be no reason at all) are just so hateful..

I remember sitting waiting for the ball to drop, and this ad came on, and I remembered every emotion I had gone through, every time I felt entirely alone. Every time I wanted to break down. Every time I felt like nothing would ever be ok again. And I reminisced on everything and everyone we’d lost. And I just remember sobbing. Uncontrollably sobbing. About George Floyd, Jacob Blake, Breonna Taylor, Chadwick Boseman, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Kobe Bryant. About all the millions that had lost family members too soon. About the thousands of acres of forest destroyed by human caused wildfires. Everything from that year came back at once and I just remember thinking. Everything is gonna be ok.
This commercial I watch it everyday to keep me focus and motivated and seeing what 2020 me and people when thru from around the world from pandemic,losing your job,family members passing a way and also hope so I say thank you to the people who make commercial like this because that shows me that not everybody thinks the same god bless

I am patiently waiting for 2021's because, well, without a doubt it mind, this year has been more chaotic, more emotional, and more stressful for all. These are truly amazing as they show us how a far we, as a global society, have come, it is quite emotional.
I would say this year was better than last year. Still not back to normal but I think we did better than 2021.

I can't believe it has been almost a year since we were waiting for the video. Time flies, in a few days we'll be watching the 2021 version.
2020 is truly a disastrous year yet it enable all of us to keep strong abides all the adversities we have faced. A vast of lives already lost but we are so lucky that as of now we are still healthy and safe.

One day to go feeling emotional another year has came even tho i haven't really achive that much in these three years but there are some moments that i will cherish forever. met some amazing people grew stronger, wiser and more compassionate. All and all these years worked for my self growth i looked into and reflected myself many times
Nothing from the outside but alot of things happened inside i learned alot about me and there's alot left too
so ending this year on a positive note hoping to experience and learn more and wishing everyone a soon to be happy new year.
I hope "Year In Search 2021" video will be full of good news.

RUclips rewind used to be like this: shows the biggest moments of the year. It's sad that it only features wacky online music teens for several years now. Go back and watch the first one. It's amazing and touching and summarizes the emotions of the past year- just like this video.

This made me so emotional because COVID-19 has made us felt so isolated from doing everything in the world and people dying from the disease but there is hope to impact us to achieve to live in a good society like how it was but keep working and find the alternative to deal with adversity and challenges ahead of us to deal with the process.
