  • my diary entry tuesday oct 21st 2014:
Simulators. A helicopter and plane one. I was like 5th on the helicopter one, I never got to try the plane one. I waited that long because I didn't want to suck, so I waited and watched the other dudes go. I did really good in the beginning, but once in the air I forgot that the stick (what's it called again?) is forward to bring the nose down and back to bring the nose up. If I hadn't forgotten that I think I would have done splendidly. But, as it was, I forgot and then the CFI (James) told me to try turning to the left and I went loopity. He said he was getting dizzy.

    Hey Abbie!
Thanks for sharing because, as you said, representation is important!! Back in 2019, your "first solo" video randomly popped up on my feed and curiosity got the best of me. I was instantly mesmerized and amazed to see someone who "looked like me" (a younger female) flying an airplane! Started training soon afterwards. Nowadays, I'm a part 135 medevac pilot and still flight instruct on the side for fun. You've played an impactful role in that, so thank you! Keep it up!!

This is so incredibly sweet and encouraging. Thank you for sharing Olivia!! I can’t believe my solo video made that impact. At the time, I filmed it to preserve the memory. But I do 140% agree about representation, and that’s why I feel it’s so vital that I repeat it in my videos about aviation. Diversity and inclusivity is better, but it can be hard to feel like you “belong” in the aviation industry. As we both know, part of pyramid to self-actualization is being able to actually see yourself doing what it is you want to do. That can be almost impossible if you’ve never seen anyone that looks like you in your position. I get it, you can push through regardless but seeing that role model or mentor just makes everything click, and feel feasible. Congrats on the job as well, sounds like you’ve got a great thing going!! I also plan to hopefully instruct my whole flight career. Safe flying 🤙✈️ and here’s hoping you stick around for part 2 😁

"Auntie Abbie honesty" is the absolute best! 😂 Loved the video and looking forward to Part 2. Also, thank you for sharing your journey with others and being part of that representation that is so sorely lacking in aviation. You're helping way more people than you realize!

I appreciate your support and comments always Wella!! I keep it going knowing you’re watching tbh, because sometimes I figure there’s no point to create if it’s only serving me. But your reminders help me know there’s someone on the other side reciting what random advice I throw out. 😂 I appreciate you! (also your coffee funds, you do not know how much I needed that these past couple months) THANK YOU ☕️✨

Great video! Heading to flight school in 2 months. Excited, scared, nervous and confident all at the same time 😂

Brandon, that is honestly the perfect place to be. Scared and nervous are normal reactions and emotions to have towards flight school, and it’s best that you’re open about how you’re feeling. (Be sure to not hide your emotions from your future instructor, they can tell anyways). Also, if you can, try to make sure you’re more excited and curious than scared or anxious. That always helps me! You’ve got this, have fun and be safe! Study hard 😁🤙
