Comparing this dudes video to Thogden's videos on American football is night and day. Thogden and his dad went into it with an open mind and enjoyed themselves, despite it being a completely different experience than what they are used to. They were complimentary about the sport, the experience, and said they enjoyed themselves even if it won't ever come close to their love of soccer (which is 100% understandable). They even went to a second NFL game, so they couldn't have hated it too much.
This guy just whined and complained the entire time while being condescending to a sport he doesn't like. He was even given tunnel access that most Americans would die for and he just used it as a way to complain and mock even more.
Also, its a COLLEGE game....on university property. There are never going to be roaming bands of low-life hoodlums at a college football game (thank god)...because its a college football game.

If you walk around the tailgate area, talk to the people and tell them you are curious about the whole pre-game experience. You can offer to buy some food from someone tailgating, but, Your accent and genuine curiosity (and wearing the right jersey) are probably enough to get you some free eats. Most tailgaters are a pretty jovial bunch and I've had food offered for free without asking.

Do all British fans have so negative thoughts? This guy would spoil any party just by opening his mouth and start to speak. Maybe he would be better entertained if he had taken some time to learn the rules of the game.
College football players make very little from the school. Division 1 Universities give the most full athletic scholarships with room and board included, so the atheletes basically get a free college education.
If the players fail to make the pros, that degree they get sets them up for higher salary white collar jobs and for becoming high school football coaches. In most towns and cites in the USA, the high school football coach has the highest paid salaries. So do not feel bad for them, there are almost 25,000 high schools in the USA that need head and assistant coaches, so there are plenty of jobs available.

I’m pretty damn certain 99 percent of all the players only pass their classes because they are college athlete. So even if they graduate with a degree from a good college I doubt they are working at high power jobs. And most of the time they get degrees in pretty basic majors or silly majors just to have something to declare. My husband went to Villanova and had classes with several athletes and he said it was pretty obvious they didn’t study or do any of the work but the teachers passed them because of how big college basketball is there.

This guys channel is acutally really good, but that is just kind of him. Also, if you were a Brit who was told about how great college football was and went to a USC game it wouod be underwheleming. I wish Ellis would have gone to a school with a better repuatation of showing out. I know SC has great tradition and if they had been 10-0 at that point it would have been good, but they are frontrunners and the fans dont show unless they have Natty aspirations.

College football is so beloved because it's a great way for you to quite literally experience your school. There is no other time, this many students are in one place. You have decades of rivalries. If you are a legacy, your dad's, dad's, dads, dad and now you go to the school and you just always for life show your support, donate your money to the school you attended if you're well off enough, and people come back even after graduating as fans for life. That is literally part of college culture that is ingrained in you, you've seen it in the movies, you attend a game, you end up going to the school because you want to belong to that awesome atmosphere. I know not everyone has to love our sports, but most foreigners who do come, enjoy the spectacle even if they don't get the rules. You just go to have a good time whether you win or lose. I get the video guys kind of, "why is it all of this for college kids," because that's the way it is in the UK, where people don't care apparently, but at one point, I'm just like, lighten up, just have a good time. You dont' have to get it to enjoy yourself.

6:18 Because the first AF game was played in 1869 between two college teams, Rutgers and Princeton. It spread throughout the northeast, then to mid-west and the south, etc. If you wanted to see a competitive AF game, you went to see it at a college/university. This is why the largest stadiums are at the college level.

    Some answers:
-the players have been getting paid only the last few years, starting in California in 2019. The NCAA, the ruling body for college sports, allowed it Nationwide starting July 1, 2021. It allows individual players to sell the rights to their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) to sponsors like shoe companies or video game makers, etc. Scholarships are still provided to the best players. And the better the player, the more money they can earn. The top moneymaker currently is Bronny James, who made $6.1 Million(£4.8 Million) this year.
    - Tailgating starts early, but most folks probably keep it to 3 or 4 hours before game time. Different facilities limit tailgating time by not opening their parking lots until a certain time. The game should last around 3 hours.
    - The stadium here is called the LA Coliseum, which you noticed the design! It was built on the USC Campus for the 1932 Olympics.
I think you would have a great time at a college game next time you’re in the States!

    • @ashleymeggan
      @ashleymeggan 8 месяцев назад

LMAO… only in the last few years. That’s why y’all weren’t winning. I went to LSU and hey… I’ll put it this way. The NCAA never had subpoena power. If y’all were admitting you paid players, that was on y’all. You shouldn’t get caught unless a rogue booster embezzles money from a hospital to pay players. 🤷‍♀️
But yeah, itsopen season now. Texas has damn Lambo NIL deals. We have Raising Canes, John Deer, several attorneys. LOL

Though USC is a storied program (and OJ Simpson's team), LA is the opposite of a sports town; they were without an NFL team for 2 decades and barely noticed. As you can see, the Coliseum isn't full, which it would be if it were in the South or Midwest.

  • @michaelpeli2429
    @michaelpeli2429 8 месяцев назад +2

Couple of things...remember the away fans are for a university that is 1800 kilometers away, so 8-10k away fans isn't bad. Secondly, LA, So Cal fans are notorious for ariving late to sporting events. Granted its really spread out withots of traffic, but thats the same for many cities. Also, America Football was basically invented by colleges in the NE evolving and spread over time, and is 50 years older than the NFL. Plus over half the states don't have an NFL team. Lastly, its interesting making such a big deal they are only 18 to 22 when that is the age of a lot of current European football players in the top leagues. I think this video was pandering more towards non-American soccer fans too, urr football fans.

  • @bryanhenchik6580

Hey Kabir, I love your reactions and yes you would love a college game. This guy on the other hand is an arrogant ass. I have only given one thumbs down ever and it was him. You understand that this game is part of the American psyche so this is a very delicate subject to criticize or mock or even complain about.
College football is 154 years old now, from the same decade as the American civil war. This, it is decades older than the NFL or pros. Actually, Michigan was the team that spread it out of the ivy league. They started getting schools interested in the Midwest so they wouldn't have to travel so far to play games. It is part of the reason they were the first team to win 1000 games. This year's Rose Bowl was the classic as it was the two team with the most wins, Michigan and Alabama.
There are usually over 100 players on college teams, at least for the main teams
Actually, tailgating may start the day before the game. Much of the food has to be cooked overnight. This year's Michigan and Ohio State game, The Game as it is called, greatest rivalry in sports by an ESPN vote, it was below freezing all night and I know people that were at the tailgate before sun up, game started at noon.
So it is a huge part of American life. Yes, the players might look old but most are between 18 and 22. You and your misses should go, you would love to experience a game. Most tailgating is by people that know each other. But, plenty, at least in the Midwest and west where I have been to games, will often just invite you in. There is a rare and unique friendship among those that go to games.

The top players get a free education and they can receive some money for the use of their image, but they do not get paid in the normal sense. There may be a fight here and there at any game here pro or college but its not very common,I think it is because American sports are engaging there is always something to see, brawls happen at soccer matches because not much happens, one or two goals per game the rest is just the ball being mindlessly kicked back and forth for 1 hour and half hours.

  • @shelaughs185
    @shelaughs185 8 месяцев назад +2

College ball is a little less about the players and more about loyalty to your college or university. Tailgating is an opportunity to connect or reconnect with school friends and alumni. Basically, players are paid in the form of scholarships, which can equal $60,000-$90,000/ year. There are so many players on the team because typically, there are different players for offence and for defence, plus a few spares in case someone gets hurt. It's pretty normal to have a bench 3 players deep, so multiply 11 x 2 plus the bench = 53, usually. Also, kettle corn is popcorn with a sweet coating. It's delicious.😊

Guy doesn't understand what's happening. Its not a constant action game like soccer. They don't play YMCA etc. during gameplay just like they dont during soccer. It's a game of individual plays and strategy. There's a channel (don't recall the name) with a couple English blokes who decided to really learn the game of football and they now like it and know the game as well or better than most Americans. It's not complicated to know well enough to enjoy as a spectator but is to really know the game st a deep level like a coach ir player would.

I admit that I don't know all the ins and outs of the recent change but I don't believe the athletes actually get paid. It used to be that the schools were able to make money off of using the player's face etc.
Whaat the new deals is that now the players have the rights to their own 'image'. They can make their own 'brands', make personal shoe contracts (?) etc. That type of thing.
I don't care for this guys attitude. He comes off as very pessimistic and that the only way he's going to have any fun is if he's forced to do so.
There's waaay more than 30 guys dressed out for a game. Should be at least 60 or so and that's just the guys kitted out. There's probably another 30 injured or on the 'practice squad'.
A game can last as long as 4 hours. That means that 75% of the time you are there no one is playing football. It's four 15min quarters. Throw in the time to get there and leave you're looking at at least a 5 hour investment into it.

College football is a pipeline to the NFL, universities/colleges make in the millions, some in the billions off of college sports and yes people bet on college games. MSU former football coach signed a contract for 90 million dollars for 10 years which was insane. Can you imagine how much the university is making?

As to why college football is so much more popular in the South has to do with the fact that all the major professional sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) started in the more populous North and especially Northeast/Midwest. Bigger cities also have more things to do and people from the larger Northern cities looked down on the "hicks" from the less populous South. That leads to a reaction where people from smaller towns tend to be more supportive of their local teams. Without professional teams, that led to support for your local college team. The head coach of a college football (or basketball) team is more important and gets paid more than the college president (as long as he is successful and has a wining program) and in the case of state universities, they are the highest paid public servant in the entire state, making more than governors.
College Football was actually more popular than the NFL up until the early 80's. The NY Giants head coach, Ray Perkins, quit after the 82 season to become the head coach of Alabama when that job became available. That turned out to be very lucky for Giants fans as the Defensive Coordinator was made HC. Bill Parcells took the Giants to their first two Super Bowl victories and is a Hall of Famer.

The name of the stadium at the University of Southern California (USC) is called The Colossium. It holds up to 90,000 people in the stands. The same stadium is used for pro football (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams. College football is played Saturday, pro football mostly Sunday, with one game on Monday and one game on Thursday, so no scheduling conflicts.

College football is the second oldest team sport in the US, with only baseball being older, and began in 1869. The Big Ten Conference is the oldest Division One (top level) college sports league, having been founded in 1896. College football is where American football developed and became popular during the late 1800's and early 1900's. The NFL, founded in 1920, didn't catch and surpass baseball and college football until the 1960's.

College football started in the 1870's. So it was already ingrained in American sport culture and was the #2 sport behind Baseball when the NFL started in 1920. It took around 30/40 years for the NFL to become just as popular. Also, there are a lot of States with no NFL team, so football fans got their fix with college and even high school football.

My 22 year old grandson played in the band for the college he went to. He only took one year of college and got a job in a bank. He’s the only man working there and all the women love him. He’s such a great young man and very respectful, we taught him very well. My mom adored him and his big brother. I love all 4 of my grandsons, my daughters boys. We taught them right especially how to treat people, especially women. He’s just a lovely young man. I’m very proud of all of them.

Do people bet on college sports? Hahahaha Kabir......you have reacted to the biggest upsets in college football when App State beat Michigan, the reason we all remember it is because App State were 39.5 point dogs. Yes, college football betting is HUGE. The Cover 3 podcast (an elite college podcast) does more than an hour pod each week where they give gambling advice against the spread or straight moneyline bets. Everything from the big games to crap games. College football is huge because of alumni, regional devotion, and there are 65 games every Saturday to put money on.

When you come back to the US for a college football game come to the south for a game. You can see Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, or UNC. We have a plethora teams and tailgating is a must. College sports are so much fun.

  • @kentgrady9226

In response to the question: "How do I get involved in the tailgate scene?"
Answer: You walk up and introduce yourself. Even in opposing colours, the odds are very good that the response will be a handshake, a smile and the offer of a beer and a plate full of food.
If you are foreign, and explain that this is your first American football game, college or otherwise, your acceptance into the group is virtually guaranteed.
I understand the hesitation, particularly if you come from a culture which is more insular and distrustful of outsiders. And of course, if you don't behave properly, you can wear out your welcome. But tailgate parties are meant to be open air, communal affairs. Striking up conversations with strangers and sharing food and drink with them are expected elements of the experience.

Average is about $43K, top earners about $64K. You have to remember that a lot of people don't live anywhere near a Sports franchise, so high school and college sports takes it's place because they are more accessible. Classic popcorn is popped with oil or butter, while kettle popcorn is air-popped in an iron kettle.

College Football is kind of recruiting services for NFL. Some of the college players don’t even finish college because they were offered an nfl position. NFL recruits talented players as early as high school, however very few get recruited while they’re in high school.

And to think. In that very stadium, NASCAR comes in, lays down several layers of dirt, then paves over it and holds a race inside the stadium. Then tears it all up and it goes back to football field after.

If you want the full American football experience I highly suggest going to the game with one of the home team’s fans. You need to be immersed fully in the tailgating, the cheers, the excitement, etc. Preferably at a game with a big rival. Otherwise it’s like an outsider looking in!

I’m sorry but the tailgating and game were very tame. We had season tickets to the Penn State football games. We would drive our RV up on Friday night and leave Sunday morning. My husband went to Penn State and my son went there. All of his friends would come to the RV for the tailgating and after the game come for more food and watch other games. Looking at the stands at this game hardly anyone was in them. There is nothing like a Penn State whiteout game. It’s incredible and fun.

College Football is the original game of football, the NFL came DECADES later. College Football has the history and also represents the state people live in and the rivalries between states while the NFL mostly represents cities and fans don't necessarily live near their favorite teams.

Hey Kabir, as somebody out of city or state who wants to join tailgating, Some bloggers hook up with of their local followers for events. Just put a shout out on your video about where you'll be and see if you have a follower there who will invite you to meet up with them at the game. Best way into a tailgate party. Most tailgating is done by groups of friends and family so you would need a invite. It is a good way to get info on the game and if you want to watch the game with them some have asked a follower to pick up advance tickets for them. Worth a try if you want the whole experience... ;-)

The players don't get paid, they get royalties from their name or likeness being used on Merchandise or games. I think most get a monthly allowance from their scholarships so they cover month living costs. But I am not sure about that part.

Hi Kabir, yeah college sports are popular because a large part of the country doesn't have a pro team near them, so if you want to go to a game you can go to a college stadium. This was especially true back in the day especially in the south. A lot of times I find college games more interesting than the pros.
The players don't get paid a salary per se. The can make money from endorsements and the use of their likeness, and of course if they are on a scholarship their school expenses are covered. Those who travel with the team have their travel expenses paid. Also, for a long time certain athletes have been given cars and money by private individuals such as alumni, though it's all unofficial.
