Ohio and Michigan's rivalry started out between the states themselves and dates back to the late 1700's when there was a conflict over part of the state line. There is even a road that defines part of the state line. It's called Territorial Road. So this rivalry continues to this day between the colleges.

Most of the big rivalries are regional. Michigan/Ohio State, Michigan/Mich St, Alabama/Auburn, Texas/Baylor, Baylor/TCU, Oklahoma/Texas, Oklahoma/Oklahoma State*, Clemson/South Carolina, Ole Miss/Mississippi State, Florida/Florida State*, and many more. University of Miami just fights everyone. *Most states have an XYZ/XYZ State University, they're always rivals even if one program sucks. Most rivarly games happen right around this time of year (there were several today) but you also get some games like Michigan vs Central Michigan, where one team is much larger/more dominant (on paper) than the other but the small school has a chip on their shoulder because their players didn't get recruited for the elite program.
Also, around the 7 minute mark, Michigan State normally do the walk out and all link arms like that, but for the Michigan game, they came out 30 minutes early when Michigan was supposed to warm up and interrupted their warm ups. This lead to michigan players not moving and then Devin Bush cleating up the logo at midfield. Another big rivalry game.
These fights will usually also occur when two schools are either in the same state or if the states of those schools share a border. That means that a lot of those players know each other and were rivals even before college.

There was a game between Miami & Florida State back in the 90s where mulitiple players were ejected for fighting, before the game started. For College Football (D1 FBS) each game matters more. The scene after the game was electric. There was a scuffle on the field and in the tunnel again like the first scene in this video. Michigan vs OSU (The Game) is the greatest rivalry in American sports
I love a good football brawl. My high school rivalry game was so notorious for violence that it became standing tradition that after the game each year both teams would relocate to the stockyards for a no holds bar style fight. 🤣
So if you want the biggest rivalry games, I’d suggest: -Ohio State/Michigan -Michigan/Michigan State -Alabama/Auburn -Mississippi/Mississippi State -Florida/Georgia -Texas/Oklahoma -Washington/Washington State -Oregon/Oregon State -USC/UCLA -Clemson/South Carolina -Virginia/Virginia Tech -North Carolina/NC State -Iowa/Iowa State -Purdue/Indiana -Kentucky/Louisville There are definitely more great rivalries, but that’s a good place to start
This was college football's rivalry weekend. Most of the in-state rivalry games took place this weekend. I must mention Washington/Washington State (Apple Cup) first because the Cougars (my school/team) won the game for the first time in many years. Add to that Oregon/Oregon State (Civil War), Michigan/Ohio State, Alabama/Auburn (Iron Bowl), Oklahoma/Oklahoma State (Bedlam Bowl). USC/UCLA took place last weekend. Army/Navy is next weekend.
I grew up in and live in Alabama. the Iron Bowl (the Alabama/Auburn annual game) is among the most intense rivalries in sports. From 2009-2012, the national champions were either Alabama or Auburn. Alabama won it in 2009, 2011, and 2012. Auburn won it in 2010. It’s what makes college football one of the greatest sports in the world.
A fight went down between #2 Ohio State @ #5 Michigan today in the second half, I'm watching that game now and it's really cold out there and was snowing, about 30° F
They mentioned South Carolina-Clemson. Our rivalry started non-sports related and is mostly due to the disconnect from the capital city of our state (where the University of South Carolina is located) and the upper part of the state (where Clemson University is located). Clemson was founded to spite South Carolina. Alumni of each school have been elected to the state legislature and at points tried to shut down the other school. Clemson's agriculture school was originally at South Carolina. One year when South Carolina won the students had a poster of their mascot (a Gamecock) standing on Clemson's mascot (a Tiger). Clemson was a military school at the time so a group of Clemson cadets confronted South Carolina students. The Clemson cadets had loaded weapons with bayonets. The rivalry game stopped for it. Yeah, we had a big fight in the early 2000s that blew up and was all over American sports news so it was mentioned a lot for years onward.
These type of altercations will usually occur when either the quarterback is hit late or out of bounds, or when the players feel they're school's honor is being disrespected.
Most of these are rivalry games. Rivalries in College Sports are greater than pro sports. I live in the Midwest so my favorite rivalries are Michigan Vs Ohio State, Michigan Vs Michigan State, Notre Dame Vs Michigan State, Notre Dame Vs University of Southern California. Honorable mention to Alabama Vs Auburn, Army Vs Navy, Navy Vs Notre Dame, and Central Michigan Vs Western Michigan (im alum from CMU and its a giant party with a Football Game)
Kicking another player in American football is really bad because most of the players have metal spikes on their cleats. The two teams that you asked about were BYU (Brigham Young University, it’s a university of the Church of Latter-Day Saints) and TCU (Texas Christian University, a Baptist school).
College football in my opinion is the most emotional sport out there. These athletes are 18-22 years old, you've got teenage mentalities in grown men's bodies. Plus you don't just represent your team, you represent your school and your state! There's a lot of pride and school spirit involved. And some of these players have known each other since they were little kids, and have developed some love-hate relationships.
Kabir, you have to understand Football is, War played on a field. To get to high levels of playing, you have to be a bit psychotic, and overly aggressive, which leads to things like this. Which honestly aren't even that bad. You see worst fights in practice during the summer or during HELL WEEKS.
You should watch the Michigan Wolverines vs Ohio State Buckeyes game highlights from Saturday November 27, 2021, it’s been 8 years since we(Michigan) beat Ohio! It was a great game! The Buckeyes have been disrespectful all year and the Wolverines shut them up big time!
Isn't that some awesome fun? As you may have heard one team have been rivals for 100 years like the Hatfield's and McCoy's. Hatfield & McCoy dispute over land in America...Hatfield's of West Virginia and McCoy's of Kentucky.
Sorry for all the comments, Kabir. But you asked for a list of great rivalries, so here are some. This is by no means comprehensive 😂 Ohio State vs. Michigan Florida State vs. Miami Florida State vs. Florida Alabama vs. Auburn Georgia vs. Florida Georgia vs. Georgia Tech Georgia vs. Auburn Georgia vs. Tennessee Texas vs. Oklahoma Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State Notre Dame vs. USC
Today was my states rival game, which we call the Iron Bowl. Between the University of Alabama and the University of Auburn. At the end of the regulation 4 quarters that we play in our games, we were tied 17-17. We ended up going into 4 over times till we got a winner. The University of Alabama finally won. And now we get to go on to the next game, which is a championship game. With that said, some of the action that you seen of the fighting on the field and sidelines also happened during our game today.
Regardless if we win or lost we was still going on to the next game when we beat Arkansas last week we clinch the West but now we go into the sec Championship game with just one loss and if we win that game then we in the playoffs again
If you want to see a fight break out, watch professional hockey. (There's an old Rodney Dangerfield joke: "I went to a fight last night and a hockey game broke out.") In football, it's pretty rare, maybe one or two a year. NHL hockey, it's every few games. College hockey, full-on fights are pretty rare because they're penalized more heavily - it's an automatic major + game misconduct + suspension for at least 1 game - so it usually ends up being just ordinary pushing and shoving. But in the NHL, it's just a major penalty - 5 minutes in the box - and then you're back out on the ice, assuming you didn't do something else worthy of a bigger penalty. 7:00: Because it's Michigan. Bunch of arrogant twerps who were, to borrow a famous insult from old coach Barry Switzer, born on third base and think they hit a triple. They were used to thinking of my school (Michigan State) as nothing, but at the time of that incident they had lost eight of the last ten to MSU. (And it wasn't the first incident during that time, either. Their rivalry with Ohio State may more often have a championship on the line, but they take losing to MSU a *lot* worse than they take losing to OSU.) 9:08: That's BYU (Brigham Young University, a Mormon school in Utah) and Memphis. 12:57: I'm not totally sure, but I believe that was the incident where Marcus Hall (an Ohio State player) was ejected from the game during the fight and flipped off the crowd as he left the stadium. 15:49: Ask fans from different parts of the country which rivalry is biggest and you'll get different answers, but the two that almost everyone will agree are at least near the top are Alabama-Auburn and Michigan-Ohio State. Army-Navy is also a huge rivalry, although there are rarely stakes as high as the others. Some other big ones: - Minnesota-Wisconsin has the distinction of having been played the most times (131). Hasn't been especially competitive of late: Minnesota dominated the early years, but Wisconsin has won 23 of the last 27, including a streak of 14 in a row from 2004 to 2017. This past Saturday, though, Minnesota beat Wisconsin (which knocked them out of the running for the conference title). - Michigan-Michigan State tends to be a nastier rivalry than Michigan-Ohio State, as I mentioned above, but it often doesn't have stakes as high as Michigan-OSU. Lots of other in-state rivalries like this (USC-UCLA and North Carolina-Duke are particularly notable for the close proximity of the two campuses, though there are plenty of others with two major schools in the state). - Oklahoma-Texas is probably the biggest in its region (Oklahoma-Nebraska and Texas-Texas A&M also used to be huge, before Nebraska moved to the Big Ten and Texas A&M to the SEC). This is one of a small number (Florida-Georgia and Army-Navy are the two others that immediately come to mind) that is always played at a neutral site rather than alternating between the two home stadiums each year - specifically, the Cotton Bowl stadium at the Texas State Fair in Dallas (which, despite being in Texas, is actually a few miles closer to the Oklahoma campus than to the Texas campus). - In recent years, Alabama-LSU has often had huge stakes, although it doesn't have the deep history of animosity that Alabama-Auburn does. - Many games have traveling trophies awarded to the winner (Minnesota and Wisconsin play for Paul Bunyan's Axe, for example). Depending on how you define it, the oldest such trophy belongs to either Arizona-Arizona State (the Territorial Cup awarded for the game in 1899, then lost for 80 years; the practice of passing it to the winner of each game for the next year didn't begin until 2001) or Minnesota-Michigan (the Little Brown Jug, first awarded in 1909 and passed to the winner after each game since; however, with the teams now in opposite divisions of the Big Ten, the game isn't played every year). Trophy games are more common in the north, for some reason (possibly due to the northern schools taking up the game earlier?). A lot of the older trophies have some interesting stories behind them - the Little Brown Jug was a water jug Michigan brought in 1903 out of concern that some crazy Minnesota fans might mess with their team's water supply; it was left behind after the game (a tie) and Minnesota treated it as a trophy (Michigan was a major powerhouse in that era, so achieving a tie was rather impressive). The next time they played, Minnesota proposed that the winner take it until the next game, and so it came to be. Minnesota-Iowa has another interesting story: Floyd of Rosedale is a 45 kg bronze statue of a pig, to commemorate a bet (of a live hog) between the governors of the two states on the 1935 game, made to calm tensions after Minnesota had been rather brutal toward Iowa's star running back - one of the few black players at the time - in the 1934 game and Iowa had threatened retaliation. It seemed to have worked, as the 1935 game went without incident, and the trophy was commissioned before the next year's game.
Some of the biggest, longest & most celebrated college football rivalries: Michigan vs Ohio State, Alabama vs Auburn, Oklahoma vs Texas, UCLA vs USC, Army vs Navy, & Notre Dame vs USC, just to name a few.
It's not big or celebrated to anyone else outside of the two schools, but Baylor and TCU have one of the longest and most played rivalries in college football. Been hating each other since 1899. Nothing like the The Revivalry.
ESPN ranked the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry the best of all sports. As an Ohio State fan, born and bred, and as a Yankees fan, as well, I can say I look forward to the OSU v Michigan game more than every Yankees/Red Sox game.

I've always been told, as a former all-state linebacker and college linebacker, you get rewarded for aggression so be aggressive. It's hard to turn it off sometimes but that's when you have to try to use your head and not screw over your team

I like how many of these are in completely meaningless games. Some are rivalries, but even many of those were games that didn’t mean a ton to the season. Most of the best rivalries in college football are inter-state or regional. I grew up in Georgia, so of course I’m an UGA fan. As you can see below, these are all well over 100 years old at this point. Just these teams below have 39 national championships(about 30% of all time) between them which makes these very big rival games every year. Every major college football team has at least 3-4 big rivals. UGA vs Ga Tech since 1893: “Clean Old Fashioned Hate” UGA vs Alabama since 1895 UGA vs Auburn since 1892: “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” UGA vs Clemson since 1897 UGA vs Florida since 1904: “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” UGA vs SC since 1894 UGA vs TN since 1899
Big rivalry’s list Ohio State vs Michigan, Alabama vs Auburn, Alabama vs LSU, Oregon vs Oregon State, Penn State vs Ohio State, Michigan vs Michigan State, Texas vs Oklahoma, can somebody respond to this with some other good rivalries
I love when we beat LSU but not much of a rivalry i mean LSU only won 07 ,10,11,19 and lost the rematch in 2011 bama won 08,09,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,20,21 in 16 games since saban got there in 07 bama is 12 and 4 but our second biggest rivalry which is Tennessee we are 15 and 0 since 07 and 16 out last 17 since 05 only Auburn has really kept the rivalry with Alabama close we are 10 and 5 in last 15 years
Baylor vs TCU. The Revivalry has been going on since 1899 and it's been pretty evenly matched (TCU leads with 57 wins to Baylor's 53 and there have been 7 ties) with 44 of the games being won by 7 points or less.
One of the things about rivalries in US sports is the same, I believe, as in the UK - location. Whenever there's a state that has more than one team, or university, in it - or, when there's a team in the next state over, there's gonna be friction. Florida University vs Florida State, Florida International vs Miami, Texas vs Texas Tech, etc. Duke is in North Carolina, & they tend to mix things up with the University of North Carolina. Kansas vs Kansas State, the list goes on & on. In this clip we also a row between Colorado & Utah, which're next door to each other.
#2 Ohio State vs #5 Michigan was a classic today. Played in the snow, tunnel fight, who ever wins goes to conference championship game & probably the playoffs !! Ended with an epic field storming

Michigan vs OSU (The Game) is the greatest rivalry in American sports
Gotta always have Thug U in the mix so many fights started by Miami.
I love a good football brawl. My high school rivalry game was so notorious for violence that it became standing tradition that after the game each year both teams would relocate to the stockyards for a no holds bar style fight. 🤣
What’s comical is that often there are penalties on both sides that cancel each other out and the net result is nothing.
Well, to be fair, the whole play gets thrown out.
So if you want the biggest rivalry games, I’d suggest:
-Ohio State/Michigan
-Michigan/Michigan State
-Alabama/Auburn
-Mississippi/Mississippi State
-Florida/Georgia
-Texas/Oklahoma
-Washington/Washington State
-Oregon/Oregon State
-USC/UCLA
-Clemson/South Carolina
-Virginia/Virginia Tech
-North Carolina/NC State
-Iowa/Iowa State
-Purdue/Indiana
-Kentucky/Louisville
There are definitely more great rivalries, but that’s a good place to start
This was college football's rivalry weekend. Most of the in-state rivalry games took place this weekend. I must mention Washington/Washington State (Apple Cup) first because the Cougars (my school/team) won the game for the first time in many years. Add to that Oregon/Oregon State (Civil War), Michigan/Ohio State, Alabama/Auburn (Iron Bowl), Oklahoma/Oklahoma State (Bedlam Bowl). USC/UCLA took place last weekend. Army/Navy is next weekend.
Most of these teams are in-state or even in-city rivalries, and those are almost always the most hate filled ones
Don't forget border or in-conference rivalries. Especially if there's a playoff/bowl game at stake.
Love Your Channel Kabir!! Two Recommendations: The Game That The NFL Wants You To Forget & The Game The NCAA Wants You To Forget!!!
Thanks James :) i'll put them on my list!
It’s what makes college football one of the greatest sports in the world.
i suggest you react to Biggest College Basketball Rivalries by The Fumble. very good video.
17:14 Texas, 17:46 TCU (Texas Christian University) and Baylor (Waco, Texas).
A fight went down between #2 Ohio State @ #5 Michigan today in the second half, I'm watching that game now and it's really cold out there and was snowing, about 30° F
It was 25⁰ F, which is about -4⁰ C.
So funny that they punch each other with helmets on 😂😂
From the beginning I was wondering if players might have a beef with someone on their own team and lose their temper with them on the field.
This week is rivalry week ! The last week of regular season .
Next Saturday is conference championships you should REACT to game highlights !
These type of altercations will usually occur when either the quarterback is hit late or out of bounds, or when the players feel they're school's honor is being disrespected.
Woah....A hockey game broke out a college football game. I didn't see that coming.
The NHL. Pro ice hockey has soooooooo many fist fights you wouldn't believe.
Women's Hockey USA vs Canada. Those ladies have it out for each other. Got into a fight at the Olympics.
Rivals can go back YEARS. Fans can be worse
Some of the great fights take place between the in state rivals.
that team you asked about was BYU, LOL the mormon school
College football in my opinion is the most emotional sport out there. These athletes are 18-22 years old, you've got teenage mentalities in grown men's bodies. Plus you don't just represent your team, you represent your school and your state! There's a lot of pride and school spirit involved. And some of these players have known each other since they were little kids, and have developed some love-hate relationships.
15:44 PAC-12 and Mountain States. Both are high altitude states.
I love how the refs keep blowing the whistles like its going to somehow change things.
Most of these games are rivalry so they are real hot times of some games.
Kabir, you have to understand Football is, War played on a field.
To get to high levels of playing, you have to be a bit psychotic, and overly aggressive, which leads to things like this. Which honestly aren't even that bad. You see worst fights in practice during the summer or during HELL WEEKS.
Your reaction made this fun. Kabir you have that twisted sense of humor. 😈🤣🤣
That first video was Michigan and Ohio and they fought yesterday when this was uploaded . Lol
The biggest brawl i have seen in person was Clemson vs. South Carolina 2004
14:47 The ref got knocked the F out lol
You should watch the Michigan Wolverines vs Ohio State Buckeyes game highlights from Saturday November 27, 2021, it’s been 8 years since we(Michigan) beat Ohio! It was a great game! The Buckeyes have been disrespectful all year and the Wolverines shut them up big time!
Isn't that some awesome fun? As you may have heard one team have been rivals for 100 years like the Hatfield's and McCoy's. Hatfield & McCoy dispute over land in America...Hatfield's of West Virginia and McCoy's of Kentucky.
Michigan vs. Ohio State is happening as I type this.
Is anyone else taking a break from the Ohio State Michigan game? I’m having heart palpitations so I’m using RUclips to calm down, lol 😂
I took a break from that game several years ago. When Michigan finally beats Ohio State, I may look into it again.
@@prollins6443 Well, Michigan just won.
@@RJ-mw2gw holy shit! First time in what, 10 years?
@@prollins6443 exactly 10 years… 2011
Sorry for all the comments, Kabir. But you asked for a list of great rivalries, so here are some. This is by no means comprehensive 😂
Ohio State vs. Michigan
Florida State vs. Miami
Florida State vs. Florida
Alabama vs. Auburn
Georgia vs. Florida
Georgia vs. Georgia Tech
Georgia vs. Auburn
Georgia vs. Tennessee
Texas vs. Oklahoma
Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State
Notre Dame vs.
Their rivalry with Ohio State may more often have a championship on the line, but they take losing to MSU a *lot* worse than they take losing to OSU.)
9:08: That's BYU (Brigham Young University, a Mormon school in Utah) and Memphis.
Some other big ones:
- Minnesota-Wisconsin has the distinction of having been played the most times (131).
Army vs Navy is the greatest rivalry game from any sport.
The classic soccer flops lol
Some of the biggest, longest & most celebrated college football rivalries: Michigan vs Ohio State, Alabama vs Auburn, Oklahoma vs Texas, UCLA vs USC, Army vs Navy, & Notre Dame vs USC, just to name a few.
It's not big or celebrated to anyone else outside of the two schools, but Baylor and TCU have one of the longest and most played rivalries in college football. Been hating each other since 1899. Nothing like the The Revivalry.
Miami vs Florida International was by far the worst fight ever. Most ghetto fight ever. If the players had knives or guns they would have used it.
ESPN ranked the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry the best of all sports. As an Ohio State fan, born and bred, and as a Yankees fan, as well, I can say I look forward to the OSU v Michigan game more than every Yankees/Red Sox game.
You need to take a look at the rivalry between the University of Washington Huskies and the Washington State Cougars!!! That is a rivalry that is as intense as it can get!!! GO COUGS!!! 💯💯💯
I've always been told, as a former all-state linebacker and college linebacker, you get rewarded for aggression so be aggressive. It's hard to turn it off sometimes but that's when you have to try to use your head and not screw over your team
Collage football is great! And Love the fights!
College football's best rivalries
Michigan vs Ohio State
Oklahoma vs Texas
Auburn vs Alabama
Alabama vs Georgia
All in-state rivalries are good like
Michigan vs Michigan State
Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State
USC vs UCLA
Florida vs Florida State
Florida State vs Miami
The best rivalry games you’ll see are Ohio state/Michigan and Florida/Florida state imo. Of course I have to shout out Virginia tech/Virginia as well
if i ever go to a sports event, i would only go to a Kentucky vs Louisville game and i would be praying for a brawl to break out.
BYU and Memphis they play at the Boca Raton Bowl
UofO vs. OSU rivalry game is today! " civil War" game
Yup how do you feel today after getting your ŧ§ handed to you.💩💩💩💩🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kabir, you want a rivalry game, look into Army/Navy! Not always the best games, but you will not find better pagentry and interesting tv spots before the game!
Kentucky vs Louisville
Michigan vs Ohio State
Florida vs Florida State
Oklahoma vs Texas
Texas A&M vs LSU
Alabama vs Auburn
Oregon vs Oregon State
These are the best rivalries
Baylor vs TCU (The Revivalry). Been hating each other since 1899. One of the longest and most played rivalries in college football.
UGA vs Ga Tech since 1893: “Clean Old Fashioned Hate”
UGA vs Alabama since 1895
UGA vs Auburn since 1892: “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry”
UGA vs Clemson since 1897
UGA vs Florida since 1904: “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party”
UGA vs SC since 1894
UGA vs TN since 1899
I coach 11-12 year old football. I love the hype
9:06 Thats Memphis and Brigham Young.
Longest running rivalry in FBS by number of games played, is Minnesota vs Wisconsin. The battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe!
Well, not having Oklahoma vs Texas in your top 3 at least is a major issue 😝
In this clip we also a row between Colorado & Utah, which're next door to each other.
didn’t even mention Kentucky Louisville lol
You notice that the coaches have a police escort after every game
Most of these involve major rivals
ESPN just showed me that it's Rivalry Week. Things are bound to get TESTY.
React to #2 Ohio State vs #5 Michigan
#3 Alabama vs Auburn (iron bowl)
#6 Oklahoma vs #21 Texas (red river rivalry)
#2 Ohio State vs #5 Michigan was a classic today.
Played in the snow, tunnel fight, who ever wins goes to conference championship game & probably the playoffs !!
Ended with an epic field storming
That huge fight was bowl game between BYu and Memphis it was brewing the whole game each team had like 10 penalty’s each
I was pretty stunned to see BYU involved in a brawl like that 😂
