I always love your mug rugs and these are adorable. I’m a big fan of faux piecing especially on mug rugs and fabric postcards. It’s a fun process. These little mug rugs are a good way for new quilters to try free motion quilting without the stress of a large quilt.
I realize this is an old video however these are adorable. Purchased this one and the Dove's and will be attempting to make and this will be my first time ever attempting to quilt anything. I have the SnC Dx225 so i will be learning as well. I like others would definitely love to see SnC Videos from you as you make them easy to follow. I can split my screen and follow along step by step. Thanks for sharing.
I do the same thing when learning something new......I pull up the video on my phone and follow right along lol. I hope you check out some of my other videos as I've begun showing the SNC in several of them. I think once you are comfortable with the steps you are going to just love using the machine to create and cut your applique! Let me know if I can help :)
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead Oh trust me I did. I purchased the Dove and the Star. I found the SnC Video of The Xmas Stocking one and I just used that one to cut the Doves. Not perfect as I did not line my fabric correctly and the Poor Doves Belly Got chopped a little however I was able to use it. Made my first Mug Rug ever. It has a few flaws but I'm learning. You should teach on how to convert your PDF to SVG. Thanks for reply.
Hi Cleo! I will make a video maybe this coming weekend and I'll cut out some of the pieces from these Christmas mug rugs....I want to make two of the stocking ones and embroider my friends names in them. That would be the perfect opportunity to walk step by step during a video :)
You are such a talented lady and so amazing in sharing your talents with us. You have an awesome way of teaching that makes one want to jump right in and get started. Now, How can I CLONE you???? I’d love having you near as I sit down to try these projects. My current situation is trying to preserve my large garden that seems to take most of my time. I watch your videos as I’m peeling, chopping, or canning which makes my work pass by faster. By the time my canning is done, you will be onto more exciting projects 🙂. Thanks for sharing and God bless you❤️

Thank You Lisa, I have been waiting for these I am on my way to Esy to get them and buy the way I did two more Ginger Cookie stocking and he turned out GREAT, I am having so much fun with you.
You've been on my mind since you asked about the mug rugs a few weeks ago! I've had these in the planning stages for some time, but glad I could get them released before the sale ends. Thank you so much Brenda!
Hi lisa..I just found your channel. I live in the Williamsburg area..so hi neighbor. Anyway I'm just starting to teach myself some quilting. Trying to do some projects to start. I have a regular inexpensive sewing machine. Can I do free motion quilting on this type of machine.
I have a question? Scrim or no scrim for batting? Lisa, what's your favorite batting for quilts? P.S. Love your Christmas mug rugs and stocking videos.
Good morning! Hmmm, I think it depends from quilter to quilter. I personally like the scrim on my battings...and I'll tell you my experience and why I like it. I've noticed, without scrim that I get white little pokies on the backside of my quilts....where the needle pops a small tiny amount of batting through to the back. Now, it could just be me....and maybe the needle I'm using...however when I use a batting with scrim, I don't see this. I lay the scrim side facing the backing and it works great. Again....this is all just my experience. I use all kinds of batting...my favorites are an 80/20 and I just used a 100% polyester batting from Joann's that I'm really liking.....Warm and Soft Bright. The quilting looks awesome with this batting!
So glad I found your videos, I am differently, going to start teaching myself to make these. One question, I noticed that you don't double stitch a knot when finishing an area. Is that enough to be able to wash the rugs. I see it makes them very neat. Just wondering?.... Thank you for the inspiration.
Hello, I just watched this video and learning how to do this for the first time. I love how easy you make this. I am about to purchase some of your patterns. I do have a question. Are these mug rugs, the way they are made, machine washable and dryable? Or should they hand wash and hang out to dry? I was thinking of whipping up 30 or so of these for the girls at work for Christmas this year. Thank you.
Hey Sonia! If you change the measurements of the mug rugs, most of them would work fine. After printing them off....you may need to scale up the size of a few of the different patterns, particularly the "faux piecing" ones to make them fit. If you have troubles readjusting the size, email me at lisacapenquilts@gmail.com. I may be able to adjust the ones you want if you let me know how big you want them....just an idea.
Hey Donna! The pattern is in my Etsy shop. You can find the link in the description box of this video, or jump over to Etsy and search for Lisa Capen Quilts. I don't have the pattern right in front of me, but rough guessing the squares are about 2" and triangles about 1.5". I could be wrong heheee......
Hi Lisa ~ I ordered your mug rug patterns. I guess they will be for next year since I have three projects on the goat right now. I have a question. The Star Bright mug rug came only with the svg file. There was no pdf file. How do I get the pdf file? TIA.
You should have gotten 2 files...a PDF and and SVG file. Check your purchases and downloads tab in Etsy and see if the file is there..if not, send me a message on Etsy and I will gladly email the the PDF. Sometimes there are little glitches through Etsy...we will get it straight :)
The patterns are found in the description box of this video, find the little grey arrow next to video title or open the "see more" tab. You can also find them on Etsy by searching for Lisa Capen Quilts. You may be able to scale them in your printer, not sure??
thanks Tina :) I like to make my mug rugs so that they fit a cup of some sort and a small snack :) Some time ago I looked up sizes of mug rugs and found that so many people make them all different sizes and I love that! I'll post the forum: www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1/what-do-you-see-typical-size-mug-rug-t73495.html. I think these Christmas mug rugs are a tad bit to small for placemats....or when I think of placemats I think of 14 x 20" which is a lot bigger.....that could just be me??
Love This!
Lisa, I spent a lot of time this past weekend binge watching most of your videos. THanks so much for sharing your wonderful talent with us.
I'm glad I got to spend the weekend with you! hahahaa I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos :)

Wow, small world! More than likely yes, you can do free motion with your machine. Did it come with a darning foot?
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead to be honest I am not sure but I don't believe. I bought a free motion foot on Temu but haven't tried to put it on just yet.

What type of glue do you use to glue your batting to the top???

I have watched two of your mug rug videos and would like to purchase some patterns. I don't know how. Anne
Hi Claudia, I'm going to post a link to my Etsy shop here for you, thanks for watching! www.etsy.com/shop/LisaCapenQuilts
What stitch width did you use for your zig zag?
Unfortunately, that was so long ago I completely forgotten :)
Hello, I just watched this video and learning how to do this for the first time. I love how easy you make this. I am about to purchase some of your patterns. I do have a question. Stitching down your applique makes it so you can wash it in the machine just like a quilt :) I'd wash them in cold water to reduce shrinking ♡
I was so happy to see another video from you! I look forward to them. I ordered four of them! How hard would it be to make them a little bigger?
What kind of glue sticks do you use?
Which batting to you use for this? Is there a fusible batting? (I'm sorry...I'm super new to all of this!)
There are fusible battings out there, however I prefer an 80/20 batting to do these small projects like this :)
These are so cute, thank you. How big are those squares? The little triangles? Do you have the pattern for those?
Hey Donna! The pattern is in my Etsy shop. You can find the link in the description box of this video, or jump over to Etsy and search for Lisa Capen Quilts. I don't have the pattern right in front of me, but rough guessing the squares are about 2" and triangles about 1.5". I could be wrong heheee......

Hi Eleonore! The stocking mug rug pattern is very easy, I'd say a beginner could easily do this one!
