Kamilla has a very high upside if utilized & developed properly I think barker is the most skilled on both ends especially as a sophomore but I agree right now rickea is the best Brazil is tough they beat the u16 usa team in 2015 with alexis morris on it . She'll be playing with a shooter her size this year it may come from their time in practice
Anessa isn't coming to LSU to produce numbers but she'll be an effective weapon. Mulkey wanted her for experience in the paint so she can develop her post player slowly. She is not a true post players but she is a good power forward rebounder and can be deadly in the paint. Her strength allows her to play bigger. Trust she is going to be in the paint but she doesn't need to be in the post to be effective.
Yeah they are unbeatable looking like they were last season guess that's why the play the game. If they were undefendable I'd agree with you but after watching Old Miss effectively defend them twice I can't hold to that statement yet. They at least went and got a perimeter threat so they are going to be in the mix plus they still the team to beat IMO.
I agree with that to some extent...When Angel played for Maryland she scored 18 points against SC and when she played against for LSu scored 14 points. To be fair against 6.7 players Angel has no right to be winning any rebounding battles. But she did get the better of Elizabeth Kitley 6.6 all American post player..had a double double scored 24 points. Marketed her completely out the game in the 4th quarter Listen no doubt Angel needs to improve to become WNBA success..But this the same with most players. Next year Angel has a good season..but that same yr the relationship with the coach Brenda Fresa..( alot we don't know about ) I remember Angel saying she was playing as a 5 and not a 4 at Maryland..cos someone had left. That could have some thing to do with why she left. Angel only had 1 season with LSu broke the Double double record and won the Natty..Was the leader of the team and she delivered. Hopefully Coach Mulky takes Angel came to the next level. There is an assistant coach called Gary (He comes across as someone who has a good connection with Angel and the team. That’s because that’s not Angel Reese’s position. She is a forward not a big. She will get to play her true position this year and whenever she gets to the WNBA
Most guard sized player don't do well against bigger post players especially if they starting from a stationary position. She'd do better if she had better upper body strength. Reese played point guard coming up and was pushed into the post because of a growth spurt. Then she perfected rebounding positioning skills. She has a rod in her ankle and along her leg that limits her jumping ability. If she had a nice vertical she could Zion and Charles Barkley be effective against taller players in the post. Coaches kept her around the basket but no one taught her how to play the post position. Her skill set to me is best in the open court. I think she'd be a great wing player 18 ft to the base line in a half court set because she can still get to the basket without starting near the basket. Reese isn't nearly where she can potentially be she needs to maximize her two years of college eligibility.

It is clear that all this complicated the selection process, but among the remaining players at least one real point guard and a real post player had to be found. If Reese truly believes she is the best in NCAA basketball, then I blame her for this loss. But we must also give credit to Brazil for having played an excellent tournament

They provide a good one two punch but the support roles players were not the right combination on the floor INO you really only need two scoring threats on the floor at one time. You have to have shooter to open the paint and driving lanes. You have to have five people on the floor that can rebound and defend it you are not going to win ball games.

That's a great analysis. I agree the roster construction was suspect. Your selection at each position has to be strategic. Your players first have to be effective rebounders and defenders and fundamentally decent. Everybody doesn't have to be to be a scorer. Your guards must have lateral quickness and they must be rebounding guards. How you not have Anessa Morrow not on the team? Politics she is the fourth leading scorer and 7th leading rebounder in the nation. How Flau Jae a tall guard with lateral quickness, a great rebounding guard,, long range shooter not make the team poor scouting report for opposition. You can't keep using connections, politics, favoritism to build your roster. If you don't bring physical players and play makers to thid game on the international level you gonna get these results. I played international ball in the army physicality and speed are your biggest obstacles because these players are usually fundamentally sound. They are not styling and profiling just yet.JMO

I heard the team, was small, with only 3 "Bigs", who weren't that Big (or played "Big" in the first place)? So, if the US got smacked around by "bigger" teams, then why didn't they pressure defense; Press; Trap, etc, to speed up the tempo to negate size? I saw what you said about defense/and rebounding as well, but could they pull that off with the team having 9 guard type players? Lastly, I was surprised that AR went in the first place, considering the long season she had and all the celebrating/business stuff she was doing. It seemed like it kinda came out nowhere, so she went, and they put her on the team. I know, some would criticize her for not going (Patriotic Duty, etc.). However, it seemed like her body and her mind may have needed some rest (and judging by what I'm hearing and the box scores, "it shows"), AR, may have felt it would have been good for "marketing opportunities", but NOT necessarily so, if/when you lose. EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! 5.0 GPA, Gold Medal level take and analysis! I hadn't thought about Shyanne Sellars, but I like your thinking, she deserved a look. I also think Kiki Iriafen would have been a nice fit on the team unless she plans to play for Nigeria. I may have even considered Bree Hall from South Carolina, to add some championship pedigree and add some continuity. I'm not sure Aneesa Marrow would have helped against Brazil. But unless she had some nagging injury, she deserved to be on the team.

I want to Kamilla Cardosa credit..she played very throughout the Tournament.The only thing that I would say..when your playing with 2 WNBA players and seasonal professionals you should be playing well at 6.7. But let's keep it..real she was up against Rookie in Lauren Betts ( 6.7) Brazil other professional on the team that was Angel height with more experience. For Kamilla this was like her playing on a better team than SC against a decent USA College team. While Angel,Lauren betts and Rikea were up against a pro team.while Angel fell below par ( nothing wrong with that) Rikea was really good and showed she maybe ready for the Pro game. Lauren Betts still needs another year or 2 just to cement her status as one of the best post player in the season. Remember Lauren Betts is came to the Fiba tournament fresh and hungry...After stanford not player regular enough at all. Rikea had a solid season but did not take a good Tenessee team far in the post season...had something to prove..she was Hungary After winning the Natty and achieving the double double...then playing for National team ( which you all should be up for)sub consciously winning that Natty was the pinical of every college basket player. I think the Game against Canada could of taken its toll. USA always wants to beat Canada lol For someone who was not to be considered in form..Angel did manage a few double double and had a good battle with Aaliyah Edwards in that post. Any way the USA team players should not even worry about the result (I know they would have wanted to win) but its all about learning and then developing even more for the future

Lastly, I was surprised that AR went in the first place, considering the long season she had and all the celebrating/business stuff she was doing. It seemed like it kinda came out nowhere, so she went, and they put her on the team. I know, some would criticize her for not going (Patriotic Duty, etc.). However, it seemed like her body and her mind may have needed some rest (and judging by what I'm hearing and the box scores, "it shows"), AR, may have felt it would have been good for "marketing opportunities", but NOT necessarily so, if/when you lose. LOL

@msl5253 In short I feel like Gold would've been the cherry on top for angel Gold medal barbie Barbie USA another lane for marketing and a feat she had not accomplished tried to make the team other times but couldn't. Overall at Brazil's level we just didn't have the personnel to defend the perimeter drives etc and Kamilla was just unguardble only rickea showed up I believe scored all but 2 points 1st qtr and they were bringing Betts off the bench she was effective but not enough attempts but a liability in the p&r because or her drop coverage Angel couldn't be angel because of the her paint limits and the size and physicality of Brazil and we needed better line up combinations everything that could go wrong did but a lesson

Facts i don’t think it was an upset either after looking at the roster and watching all the games leading up to even their first match against Brazil I already knew… and Brazil has WNBA vets on their team 😂

EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! 5.0 GPA, Gold Medal level take and analysis! I hadn't thought about Shyanne Sellars, but I like your thinking, she deserved a look. I also think Kiki Iriafen would have been a nice fit on the team unless she plans to play for Nigeria. I may have even considered Bree Hall from South Carolina, to add some championship pedigree and add some continuity. I'm not sure Aneesa Marrow would have helped against Brazil. But unless she had some nagging injury, she deserved to be on the team.
Thx ! & yeah bree wouldve been Solid I expect a big year from her too I wasn't saying aneesah if I was just building from scratch but based on what they had at camp I think it would've made more sense to have her size and athleticism over a hsu or gray who was unplayable in this game. She didn't make the second cut though they brung in Kelly Barker hsu and gray over her but wouldn't be surprised if kiki played for Nigeria

This do not have that much effect on LSU SC game cuz their would be HOF coaches involved. That USA was thrown together and not coached well at all. LSU guards will be ready and Angel will be better by then. But Cardoso was great tonight so we will see

I want to Kamilla Cardosa credit..she played very throughout the Tournament.The only thing that I would say..when your playing with 2 WNBA players and seasonal professionals you should be playing well at 6.7. But let's keep it..real she was up against Rookie in Lauren Betts ( 6.7) Brazil other professional on the team that was Angel height with more experience. For Kamilla this was like her playing on a better team than SC against a decent USA College team. While Angel,Lauren betts and Rikea were up against a pro team.while Angel fell below par ( nothing wrong with that) Rikea was really good and showed she maybe ready for the Pro game. Lauren Betts still needs another year or 2 just to cement her status as one of the best post player in the season. Remember Lauren Betts is came to the Fiba tournament fresh and hungry...After stanford not player regular enough at all.
Rikea had a solid season but did not take a good Tenessee team far in the post season...had something to prove..she was Hungary
After winning the Natty and achieving the double double...then playing for National team ( which you all should be up for)sub consciously winning that Natty was the pinical of every college basket player. I think the Game against Canada could of taken its toll. USA always wants to beat Canada lol For someone who was not to be considered in form..Angel did manage a few double double and had a good battle with Aaliyah Edwards in that post.
Any way the USA team players should not even worry about the result (I know they would have wanted to win) but its all about learning and then developing even more for the future
