Appliances are something most of us don’t get all that often. Plus, they’re expensive, to it’s not like you’re swapping them in and out every couple of years. So when you shop for something like a dishwasher you want to know you’re getting a good product, that’s easy to use and that will last. But since it’s hard to test out appliances before you buy them, you need to do your research and rely on reviews like this to give you the whole picture.
We renovated and as a result needed new appliances. The dishwasher I chose is the LG LDT5678. In this post I’ll talk to you about the features of this dishwasher, how well it works, the noise level and my overall thoughts on it now that I’ve been using it for about 6 weeks.
Choosing a dishwasher
There are certainly dishwashers that cost a lot more money than this one, and that come with a lot more fancy features. Because we were in need of all new appliances for our kitchen renovation, we were trying to keep the budget manageable. We did want a dishwasher with a third rack, some adjustability, outstanding cleaning properties, and hopefully one that would be quiet, since it went into an open concept kitchen living area.
I will say, I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews and information about a bunch of different dishwashers before settling on this one. The key deciding factor in us choosing the LG dishwasher is that it had really good reviews on several electronics and home appliance store websites. Plus it had many of the features we were looking for.
LG LDT5678 Main features
That third rack is also super handy for narrow items that might slide through the basket: things like chopsticks. Conveniently it's also great for things like spatulas and wooden spoons that are flat but otherwise quite long or tall, plus some flat or shallow dishes. Either way, anything I've put on that third rack has come wonderfully clean and I really like having the extra space.
Height-Adjustable Second Rack
One of the other really great features that sold me on this dishwasher was the height adjustable second rack. Using simple clips you can adjust the height of that middle rack to three different settings. Being able to do this allows you to put taller stemware or glasses in without their bottoms hitting the upper rack.
Overall I’ve been thrilled with how well the LG LDT5678 cleans: plates come clean even when covered with food residue, glasses come out sparkling, and the silverware is always clean with no dried-on bits left behind.
One dishwasher annoyance is wet dishes. Usually this comes from leaving the dishes in the machine after a clean and drying cycle, and the steam inside condenses and puddles, particularly if you leave them sitting overnight.
This machine has a really cool setting to alleviate this: it’s called Night Dry.
Night Dry keeps the ventilation fan running periodically to help vent the steam from the tub. This is a really smart setting and I found it works really well; we now use it all the time, because we often get diverted from immediately unloading the dishwasher.
Smart connection & LG ThinQ app
Many of LG's newer appliances come with smart connectivity. This dishwasher uses the LG ThinQ app to essentially talk to you about your appliance. At its most basic level, it can send you push notifications to your phone or smart watch when a cleaning cycle is finished, or when you need to add rinse agent. At its most complex, using this Wi-Fi connection can help you diagnose trouble .
How loud is LG LDT5678 dishwasher: noise level
Which brings me to another one of my key selling features; after spending 20 years with a rather loud dishwasher, using the LGLDT5678 has been an absolute treat when it comes to noise level. This dishwasher is ultra quiet and most of the time I have no idea if it's running. That's super handy in these work from home times, or if you want to run the dishwasher while you're sleeping at night time. The dishwasher is impossible to hear from across the room, and is barely audible standing next to it. I gave this dishwasher top marks for its blissfully silent operation.
Overall review: LG LDT5678 dishwasher
Overall I couldn't be more pleased with this dishwasher. It has all of the features I want and a few I wasn't even expecting to get. It leaves all of my dishes clean, every single time it washes, it's ultra quiet, and very versatile. If you're looking for a new dishwasher for your home, you won't regret buying this one. I will have to update this review after a few more months of use, but so far I’m very happy.
The LG LDT5678 dishwasher sells for about $950 and you can get it where you find most home appliances. Наука
Thanks for the thorough review. My family recently purchased a clearance model LG dishwasher and I was not sure exactly what we were getting as there was no floor models. Your review has made me confident in that purchase.
I’m so glad you found this helpful! We are about seven months in and still think it is the greatest dishwasher ever.
Currently looking at buying the LG LDP6810 after watching many reviews. Yours summed it up as the right decision looks like a great machine
Glad it was helpful!
Very good review....am looking at maybe getting all LG appliances for the kitchen and laundry....have spent countless hours researching everything...theres alot of good products out there...was surprised at how high all of LG's products rated.......cheers from Canada
Cheers, thanks for sharing!
Thanks, just ordered one after seeing your review. Notably this is one of the only high end dishwashers in stock anywhere.
So glad it helped you!
buy some towels, u will need them.
Dry nice! Great review Erin! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Scott! Thanks for checking this one out. 😄
@@ErinLawrenceTV You are very welcome Erin. Even tho I don’t have a dishwasher. It’s something to think about it. Cheers Erin! ☕️☕️
Great Review. I started believing in my decision to get this LG dishwasher after you reinforced its better design.
That's great, thank you for the comment!
As usual, great review. Thanks.
Thanks for watching 😃
Erin, very informative video, thanks for sharing👍👍👍
Thank you so much
Looks like a great dishwasher. Thanks Erin.
Hi Ron! 👋 thanks for watching this one. 🙂
Great! Definitely wanting a new dishwasher
It's so good!
I have this exact dishwasher and absolutely love it! I use the top rack for my daughters bottle accessories/nipples and soothers for proper sanitation
Love it, thanks for sharing!
I just got its takes 2 hr to wash , am i using correct?
Thanks Erin! Very nice review.
Thanks Bill! 😊
Awesome video, so informative
Glad you liked it, thank you!
I don't need a dishwasher, but, listening to you during my walk make me feel more calm.
Well thank you very much. 🙂🙂🙂
🤣🤣🤣
Good review! I have an LG fridge that I love- is it wise to match it with another LG brand for dishwasher? I was a little concerned about your complaint on the bottom rack- Are you saying you’re limited to how many dishes you can put on the bottom with that open space? Thx :)
HI Allan, I'm not big on brand matching. It was more important to me that each appliance has the features I want. As for the bottom rack, it's probably just learning to load it effectively. Everyone's dishes/pots/pans are different. I don't think it's limiting, I just haven't found the best configuration yet. Does that help?
What type/brand detergent and rinse aid do you use? Our old machine’s detergent compartment was broken (for years!), so we’ve been using pods. What do you think we should buy for our brand new LDT5678? Thanks for a great review, btw!!
Always choose natural detergent. Much safer for your health.
Hello Erin ,thanks for the good info, have the same dishwasher , I like it , purchased Dec 2020 , after exactly 1 yr Dec 2021 started with issue if you can find out and help will be great, so the soap dispenser stop in the middle cycle , so I read about review , some mentioned to put soap at the upper level ,, still same issue ,, after running less than one hr , stop. I have to start all over again . Didn’t do the full cycle . Other than that all good . Thanks
I
Thanks for watching!
LG is about the only remaining mainstream appliance mfr that isn't garbage. And I'm concerned even they may be headed towards that. I'm happy with my washer/dryer (made in the far east (Malaysia? Singapore? I forget)). My US-made LG fridge however has...issues. In fact, I just got an extended warranty for it before my first year is up. If I were richer, I probably would've gone with Miele everything (based on my good vac experience)...
Can the ThinQ connect to Apple phone?
How long is the Auto wash function? I notice some dishwasher Auto function is about 1hr 30 mins only where LG is about 3 hrs?
Hi Erin, our family just got this dishwasher, but it didn’t dry all the utensils completely even we select the night dry option, do you know if there is an option that is for drying?
Thank you, cheers from Australia
🙂🙂
regarding half load cycle, how do we if its is doing top or bottom rack?
Which is the quickest cycle to choose from?
Just wait a year or so and see if humidity gets into the control board. My LG washes dishes well until it cuts off mid cycle because of this known issue. Otherwise it's been great. Unfortunately, the control board is important so I just bought a Beko.
That's too bad, thank you for sharing your experience.
I have this brand new and am desperate I turn on heavy it starts running then turns off I turn in the extreme dry (night) and it makes it stop running after 30 seconds the ONLY cycle that doesn’t stop running is turbo..
We have this exact dishwasher and 2 years in, it leaks like crazy even after multiple repairs. Worst appliance we have ever had. The first time we had a repairperson come out to fix it we asked him what brands does he repair the most and he said LG and Samsung pay his mortgage. We are a couple in our 50's and eat out a lot so we maybe use the dishwasher once a week. Our experience with this product is simple...do not buy it. Look at Bosch or Frigidaire.
So sorry to hear that, and thanks for sharing.
Service technicians have to fix lots of LG and Samsung. it is just because they sell millions of something. In terms of durability, all brands are almost tie.
Nice dishwasher!
Thanks! 😊
My LG V60 phone works really well with this.
That's great!
Good to know! Do you get any special kind of alerts?
This is a good help😊😊😊
Glad to hear!
is this the same model as LDTS5552S?
I just bought one as well and question whether to remove the 10 year warranty sticker on the upper right front of the dishwasher. It does not seem to come off too easily and I don't want to damage it by forcing it off. I notice you still have yours on the front, is it permanent? I am hoping not, please advise if anyone has indeed taken it off. Thanks.
Hey Art, Funnily enough, I've never noticed that sticker until just now, so mine is still there. :)
@@ErinLawrenceTV The sticker does come off and it doesn't scratch.
I have this dishwasher. It makes a high pitched noise through the entire drying cycle. Is there a setting I'm not aware of to silence this high pitched noise?
Woah. That sounds like something's wrong.
Did u ever have any issues with it not drying all your dishes completely? What settings do u do use so you don't have condensation & have dry dishes to put away?
That night dry mode is really helpful.
@@ErinLawrenceTV ok thanks
Ten years from now it will arrive here in Brazil ...
Yikes!
Hi, not sure if you’ll see this, but our rental home came with this dishwasher,
and when it runs, the water comes & goes every 40ish seconds, is that normal to hear? Like it’s not loud, but I can hear when it adds water I guess; we’ve been having issues with other appliances and I just don’t know at this point what anything is supposed to sound like to know if it’s working
The water will come on and off; every dishwasher is different though. Leaks would the the key worry: if water is rushing around inside and staying there, I think you're good.
We just got ours last week and it’s doing the same thing. It’s loud when it’s rinsing
This is a really nice review however I have this dishwasher for about a year and it’s not good. It’s not cleaning very well. I’m mot giving up on it yet cause i really want to like it and I like the look and the quietness so we’ll see.
Great feedback! Have you checked to see if perhaps the filter basket is clogged? The one in the dishwasher is quite easy to remove and clean… A big change from our previous dishwasher. That can contribute to dirty water circulating around the dishwasher.
@@ErinLawrenceTV thanks Erin. I bought the gel detergent yesterday and I am so pleased so say that the dishwasher did a great job last night. I can’t believe I didn’t think of switching what I was using but thanks to your video I did and I am so pleased. Thanks again and you have a new subscriber 😊
I really think using detergent or gel really makes a difference. This video ruclips.net/video/_rBO8neWw04/видео.html sold me on switching. I just purchased this LG. Great review!
Hi there, do you get high chime motor noise during drying cycle (40min to 3 min) when using the extra dry option? Mine is 1 day old and somehow it has this weird noise most likely from the fan . Is that normal?
Hmmm... there are some points in the cycle where something is clicking on, yes, but no chimes except during the start up phase when choosing the cycle and pressing start.
@@ErinLawrenceTV its not clicking or chime its like fan sound during drying mainly on night mode and extra dry mode. Like its louder than im used to with other brands
Mine does not dry well at all. I am returning it and will buy a Bosh
That's too bad, sorry to hear that.
Is it kinda loud when closing the door to you, like the latching sound
Oh, very interesting question. Yes, I'd say it's a pretty noticeable 'click'.
@@ErinLawrenceTV thanks, thought something was wrong with mines
How do I cancel a delay start?
Thankfully I’m not in need of a new dishwasher. Great review nonetheless.
Thank you!
Does it have a disposable inside to grind up food stuff?
No not really!
Just a filter on the bottom of the floor!
You actually need to clean filter after each use!
It’s good idea to rinse dishes from food scraps before putting in the dishwasher.
you have a news voice !
:)
does this dishwasher pop open automatically after wash cycle ends?
No. It stays shut.
OK ....but still have to clean the filter....not like other older models sad.... people complaint about noise...I do have an older LG that I can quickly add a dish, close the door and will restart without pressing anything! plus food disposer, no pre-rinse!!!!! we need power, not quieter
Does it dry well
Very well, actually.
I'd like to hear it running on a heavy cycle with a full dirty load.
You did in this video. 😀
In auto how long its takes to wash ?
It displays 3:03 hrs with hi-temp wash, but it depends on the soil level
Can this work without the wifi connection?
Yes; the Wi-Fi will just send you notifications when the cycle is done, or you can use it to diagnose troubles.
@@ErinLawrenceTV thanks! Just hooked it up. Also, will the app control the dishwasher, or is the app just for notifications?
Great review! You were thorough, informative, and the video was well done. Could have done without the dirty dishes view though
Erin beauty
Thank you.
Thanks, but I will never put wood items in a dishwasher, you should know that.
Precious wood, never. Things like wooden spoons I don’t mind…
You beautiful
Thank you 😊
Dishwasher brands really need to start giving better names to their products. LG-LDT5678... what a terrible and forgettable name. Sheesh!
😺😍😍😍😍💋💋💋💋💋
Compared to other manufacturers LG has poor racking systems.
After watching videos trying to figure out how to work this thing without enrolling in a rocket science college course, I have found 90% BAD reviews and most people are really struggling to figure these super complicated controls out. I would definitely recommend NOT buying one of these. As Elon Musk would say, "THIS IS A DUMB DESIGN." WAY, WAY, WAY OVER COMPLICATED FOR A DISHWASHER. I AM FEELING RIPPED OFF. 1/2" thick manual! WOW. I just bought it today and they want $5.00 to answer my question of how to turn drying off. Please don't yell at the family when this thing fails.
problem solved Amazon ABT72989206 $173.67 Phillips screwdriver and pliers required. Would say I'm unhappy with LG service, but that would imply that they responded and have a service department. They want you to throw it away and buy a new one. I think it's sad the one part LG brags about failed in 2 years regardless if they think it's going to make it 10.
Sorry to hear about your terrible experience.
