Ford have a history of creating incredible production engines that then go on to be further developed by others to be absolute rippers, the V6 Duratec we only really saw in the Modern Jag S type here in Aus but the 2.0 Duratec we got in Mondeo's (I have a Manual). Another example of Fords engine prowess is of course the iconic Barra and they too are being whanged way beyond their original intended use with the ironic part being that its the dedicated "Green Top" LPG/Propane engine that is the best platform for a performance build most commonly found in Taxi's and Tradie Utes. Im a Jag fan from way back and much as I dont like the shape of the modern S im now tempted to find one to have a play.
They used to run these on the Palmer experience days at Bedford autodrome (before they switched to a single seater). Had the pleasure of driving one in anger with an instructor a few years in a row with work. They are 👌

Toyota V10 in the LFA, though how the thunderous pushrod Corvette motors beat up on everyone until they changed the GT rules forcing them to go flatplane is right up there also for a close tie.
You definitely need to do another video on the best version there is for the V6. On the other side of the pond Rossion had AEM massaging the V6 and adding two Garrett T28 turbos! Now that is a great road version of the Duratec! I do love mine and I'm actually taking it a step further with some extra upgrades to the internals!
My Mazda tribute s has the 3.0 duratec, haven't been able to find enough info to even begin considering tuning but all these videos make me think it could be worth it

i think a lot of engines sound beast without an exhaust. i remember a honda city 1.3ltr in a roll cage with seats. the noise was freaking epic you just couldnt drive it for too long cause of the fumes
Tbh, 277hp out of 3.0L its way below what some of the stock cars made, like 2 decades ago. Should be more like 377. Despite this i love this car and video.
I agree, 277 does seem a bit low for a Cosworth Tuned engine, maybe its built for longevity. There are a few guys on the kit car forum who have used the AJ30 (Jag engine) one of them saw 270ish. It turns out that Jag turned the wick back for emissions. It also helps to have the VVT turn on and off again as you come up the revs. I would have expected the Cosworth guys to be at 320+ I believe that Mountune did the V6's for BTCC and they were monsters by all accounts.
@@DavidMalenczak I dont think that You need VVT, bc on the track the engine works only in the higher rev band. Many 3.0L liter from older BMWs are used in HillClimb racing. They ofen have 400+ hp. 133+ hp/1Liter is nothing unusual, this engine gives only 92. Many of 2.0L inline4 have over 300hp.
I wonder how much of the original engine is used? Is the block still the same or swapped for some alloy type? I doubt crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods are the same, all beefed up. Camshaft will certainly be changed to race configuration. Intakes replaced, injectors race series, high volume race type oil pump, water pump, Heads race prepped. Not much is Mondeo.
@@jareknowak8712 Factory was 240hp with ~ 7k redline. I can see a high rise intake manifold and he said 8k rpm so may be mostly stock with intake, exhaust, and tune.
Very little done to the original x type engines used in these buddy dry sumped vvt removed solid chain tensions jenvey itb,s decent headers supply of enough meant switch to s type engines they needed a lot more work for durability reasons with rods pistons and skirt oilers etc changed

Hi peeps, a quick correction, this car was not the brain child of J Palmer. I was built and raced in the late 1999 to 2000 national supersports car series by the creator and it was called a Zeus. Back then it had a Vauxhall 2 ltr 260hp engine in the back and i think it won the championship around that time. J Palmer bought the rights to make the car back then for his virgining racing school... 20 year old tech, a quick car non the less.
Well obviously that "get plum dehairer for your dad" was meant to ramp up comments on the video and get us speaking about their sponsor. That is genius. The fact that they thought of that idea is scary and wrong and sick

If you want to do an enormous favour to a lot of us all I'd highly recommend doing what some other channels are doing and putting a bar or timer somewhere to show how long/when an ad is going to end. I completely understand that these videos require funding so I can't fault you if this is a net negative but a lot of us just really, really dislike advertisements.
That’s never the same engine from the Ford Mondeo it has been heavenly modified and upgraded otherwise I would be able to take the engine straight out of this track car and stick it in a Mondeo. Which is impossible so please change the video to say “this cars Engine STARTED OUT as the same one from the Ford Mondeo”
You could take that engine and put it in a Mondeo. It's not like the mountings have changed. It's not got any modifications like a large turbo that make it too big to fit. There is the air intake but it's possible. I've seen ST220s with Noble air intakes similar to that one, and you can get just as much power with a different design anyway. Electronics might be a bit of a pig but it's doable. Might even be able to use the standard stuff if you can remap it enough. I've seen ST220s more extensively modified and producing more power, so it shouldn't be too big a deal to get one to 270hp.
I worked at palmer sport on jp1 and jplm for many years you’d be shocked how stock that engine is when tho when they switched from x type base engine to s type one due to availability they did need more work but not much for durability

That power unit in 3 litre form in sat in the back of the noble m12, albeit with a couple of turbos bolted on.
To be fair...if you shoved a 4 cylinder engine into me I'd either be really fast or dead....
