Dear Colin, you are a real teacher. Your way of teaching things is very student friendly. I have watched all beginner videos and practiced along with you. @@BornCG glad you asked actually. Something I have been trying to do (as a mod for a game) is working on an outfit. The outfit has partially transparent areas, kinda like the way a shirt isn't fully opaque. The game will handle all that via its textures etc, but whilst I am still at the modelling stage it would be nice to get a texture with a partial alpha to work in blender. So far all I have been able to do is either fully opaque or fully transparent, never somewhere in between when using a, for example, a png with an alpha channel. By the same token, can blender use .dds files?

Good. Nice tutorial.... Can you please help me regarding this line of code in gd script...... Vector2[rand_range[-32,32],rand_range[-32,32]] it is not working I tried finding but I am not able to come up with a solution.... How can I replace this code to work it in the same way... I have read the online docs also nothing helped
a while since I did any Godot, but shouldn't those be round brackets in other words, Vector2(rand_range(-32,32), rand_range(-32,32)) also, what error message are you getting?
Lol I did the Godot simp move and dodge game lol man missed 1 piece of code and gave up saw today lol n for characters I made my own coz I did not see link lol
As a Maya user here's what I'm not understanding. In Maya the "move" transformation is W which allows you to slide the object along the 3 axes in world orientation or in object orientation using a gizmo; you can also grab the center of the gizmo to move based on perspective (not worth it imo). In Blender when you hit G you can only translate based on perspective, in order for me to use the gizmo I have to find it in the toolbox editor on the left side. This slows me down so much lol. Is there any other way to do this that I might not understand yet? I love the way Maya does it because it's FAST. I'm hoping Blender allows the same without having to pop into ortho each time or this is going to be a painful journey (or full of rebinding keys).
At 12:51 in this video I talk about & demonstrate the Transform Modifier Keys. If you type G, R, or S from any perspective view, especially G and R move/rotate from the view perspective, but then you can add more keys after any of the 3. eg: G then Z constrains moving to the Z axis (up/down), and even more: G then Z then 5 then Enter will move the cube up 5 meters on the Z axis. The same system works for all 3 transforms: G / R / S. eg: S then X then 2 then Enter will make the object twice as wide. You can also press G and then press Z Z (z twice) to move on the local Z axis (obviously similar for X Y and Z, and G/R/S). As you can probably tell, Blender is very keyboard shortcut heavy for proficient users. I hardly use this particular one as much as I should, but pressing Shift + Space (with your mouse cursor in the 3D View Editor) brings up a quick menu of all the tools on the toolbar at your mouse cursor. At the top-middle of the 3D View Editor you can also change the orientation of the gizmo between Global/Local/etc.
Perspective = how we normally see in the real world. objects appear smaller as they get further away. Orthographic = 'flat 3D' where objects appear the same size even when further away -- this is how some 3D games (like: Sim City and I imagine many top-down strategy games) are visualized.
This tutorial still serves as an introduction for blender 3.0 as the interface is almost identical. Would you like me to cover one of the new features, or teach how to do something in particular?
Did you make the Simple 3D Game, or the 2D Platformer? Have you posted your game online? (itch.io?) Share the link, I'd love to see it! 💙 .. I will be continuing the 2D Platformer series with more platformer features!
when i tap "r" i get the normal rotate gizmo, not the one shown at 11:21. i opened a new blend file and am following along but am stuck at getting the black gizmos that follow your cursor vs the static x,y,z colored manipulators that you ahve to click and drag. also, sometimes hotkeys dont even work. i press r to go into the rotate tool and the gizmo stays at scale.
When you first started blender for the first time only, you were given the option to select from different keyboard shortcut configurations. It sounds like you may have accidentally selected an alternative keyboard shortcut configuration, or.. do you have a non English keyboard or OS language?
