- My au pair experience was.... WILD.
Most of you on my channel know that I was an Au pair in Paris, France for a little over a year and a half, but what most of you don't know is that I actually worked for three different families during that time -- and it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.
I wanted to sit down and give you my Au pair experience in detail, both the good and the bad, why I quit, what I'm doing now, along with some advice and tips for future au pairs to know what to look out for when interviewing with families.

Getting ready for your first video call with a potential host family? Here's 12 major questions you NEED to be asking your future aupair host family during your first Skype interview! ruclips.net/video/acAhAUsm08U/видео.html
A video where you let us know what questions to ask host families is a great idea 💡👏🏽❤️
Coming up next week! 🙌🏽
I’m trying to find an au pair job in France for the first time. I have plenty of experience in childcare, but my biggest worry is potentially having a bad host family. Your stories are very helpful in letting us know what to look for.
Any update?
I want to be a host family but I am a bit nervous because we aren't the best of cooks & our house is a little small. I'd hate for her to arrive and hate our food bc she's used to amazing European food. I'm on youtube watching videos like this to see what I can do to be a good host mum.
Hello
Hi I can be your au pair
Thats so sweet! I think just being up front about that beforehand and being willing to make an effort goes a long way :)
I am french i was an au pair in England 7 Times, it was a fantastic expérience , Good luck to you...
Thank you for sharing your experiences! I'm happy that despite the last two, you got to have a great experience with your first au pair job :)
Somebody has 500 subscribers! The last two families were just wrong, especially the second one. It's great that you still have a good relationship with the first family.
Crazy, right?! I'm so glad I had a good experience to outweigh the negatives!
I can believe I been at this video for half an hour and it was a pleasure. Congratulations, you really got my attention!
Thanks for watching! ☺️
OMG the second au pair mother sounds so much like the manager I worked under who is french (though not born in France; she migrated there when she was around 12)! I still shudder when I think of her.
I like your vibe ❤️❤️
Hey! I think I'm the new au pair of the third family you were talking about. Would you be interested in talking about it a little bit more privately? It's honestly just refreshing to know I'm not the only one who felt that way in this au pairing experience!
Yes of course! Send me a DM on Insta: tianabaaaby
I am so grateful to have found your channel. You are so good at telling your story that I am totally engaged. You truly have a gift. Can you do a video in French one day?
Thank you so much! That makes me so happy to hear 🥺💕 Yes, will definitely be doing a video in French soon!
Thanks for sharing your experience! Was it hard to find other work in France (other than being an au pair)?
Thank you for watching! Yes, honestly it was a bit difficult, because technically you’re not allowed to work elsewhere in France with the Aupair visa. So you have to find other methods like teaching English for cash, or finding ways to make an income online. It can be difficult to find opportunities but it is definitely doable! I am planning to make a video about it soon :)
Hey Girl, I had a bad experience too after a good au pair experience and families be so crazy - was fun listening to this! I'm curious which website you were tutoring english? Would love to know ☺️
I used a few, mainly Lingueo, Preply, and Cambly :)
Happy birthday ☺🔥. Lol I'm watching this on your birthday 😭🤣🌼
Awww hahaha thank you!! 🥰🫶🏽
Thank you for all the info
I’m glad i came across your channel. ❤
Wow your first experience sounds so amazing!! I'm sorry you had such a bad other one 😢❣️
Hi! So nice to hear about your experience although some of it wasn’t so positive… could you tell me where or like how do you teach English online? I’m thinking of starting that too since I’m currently aupairing in Mallorca Spain
I used a few websites but the main ones were Cambly, Preply, and Lingueo
You can clean up light housekeeping. But you're not a housekeeper. Theses people need to hire housekeepers for cleaning duties. You're not a maid!
Can a male go for it too?
Can you explain the French language requirements for au pairing in France? I’m from the USA.
The second ladies vibe was what made the second experience not so great. Her attitude destroyed everything and she did not seem like a safe, kind person. Super inconsiderate, unkind and mentally unstable. This was all on her. As an adult she knew better and should have treated you with more kindness understanding and empathy. Sounds like she may have been low-key a narcissist or sociopath.
I agree! In hindsight I'm glad it didn't end up working out, it was definitely for the best!
The last family sounds rich rich 😁
they had money forsure hahah
That’s sucks that because of covid you can’t go out. That’s my one fear about being an au pair in the summer. Like will covid be less of a big deal?
I’m hopeful that things will start to open up a bit more in the summer! 🤞🏽
Do you think you'll go back to being an au pair? Also, what platform do you teach English on?
Honestly, probably not. It was a great experience and I'm definitely glad I did it, but I like the independence and flexibility that my current job gives me! I teach on two platforms; Lingueo & Preply :)
Do you know what organization your roomate went through to be an Au Pair in Australia??
I believe she used the same site as me! Aupairworld.com 🙂
Thanks for sharing - - It sounds like hit or miss with being a Au pair. I know wealthy people can sometimes be snobby bast***s! 😜
I had a bad experience. How did you change your visa from au pair to working?
I'm currently on a student visa, and I just did the renewal/switch online
Visa long process application, please post it . France government so famous of being super slow ...
Very true! French government is known for taking a long time to process visas!
Could you make a video about teaching English? Like did you get a tefl? The company you teach for? If you needed a degree? Etc
yes I can definitely do that!
Hi Tiana and everyone else! I will coming to paris, france as an au pair next week! I nned friends please🥹 anyone interested please tell me.. or if u guys know of any au pair group i can join 💖
How did get l need please in Kenya
If I want to au pair for less than 90 days in France, do I still need a visa?
No you don't need a visa for 90 days or less
I wish if you still have any connections for any host family looking for an au pair please help me
I don't, I'm sorry! Try searching Facebook groups or aupairworld.com x
Question, you said the au pair visa only allows you to work as an Au Pair but now you're in you're own apartment working full time teaching English.
Did you have to switch visas? Do you just have to make sure you're working as an Au Pair for a certain amount of times a month? You mentioned an Au Pair visa means you can't do anything but do Au Pair so you were unable to do regular work after your first host family but then at the end of the video you said you basically moved out and now are only working remote full-time. Can you elaborate on this?
Forsure! On the aupair visa you legally can’t work in France as anything other than an aupair, but since I was teaching for a U.S. company and it was online I was able to bypass that
@@WhereTianaTravels Ah gotcha. That makes perfect sense. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain.
Interesting. The lady who terminated you in 4 days may have noticed the energy or vibe you were giving off because you mentioned in this video that the boys were kind of annoying you.
We don't know sometimes that the way we feel when it comes to being annoyed or uncomfortable is exuded throughout our body language and some people can feel that uncomfortable or annoyed energy.
You didn't connect with the family, they didn't invite you for dinner. That already creates a distant and disconnect.
Good thing she terminated you. Because you want to work with a family, not for a family, who will include you, especially at the dinner table. When you're happy with a family , a good friendly one, it shows through your energy
That's very possible! I'm glad she fired me as well, it worked out for the best in the end!
Chill😭 The lady is obviously an adult, if she felt like the connection was off, then she should’ve communicated with her and give her a solid and well constructed reason as to why she feel that way. You could tell she didn’t really want an au pair from the start. And I’m also glad she fired her, bc she doesn’t deserve to have someone work or live with her
Did you have any childcare experience prior to becoming an au pair?
I had some babysitting experience but not much
@@WhereTianaTravels is it required? I haven’t babysat since high school and i’m worried this will prevent me from being able to be an au pair
@@xxcruiserlove26xx not at all! it’s helpful but definitely not required
Did u have child rearing experience prior to doing this ? Was it extensive? Im making a profile cause I also wanna learn French and travel but don’t have much experience so I don’t feel qualified
I had some childcare experience just from babysitting for family members and family friends but no professional experience! Most aupairs don't have any childcare experience, it's normal! They just want to see that you're someone who likes kids, is nice and is willing to learn :)
@@WhereTianaTravels aw thanks for replying wasn’t expecting that. Hope you’re well ! (Loving ur channel currently)
@@Alovinghuman I didn't have any formal childcare experience I just wrote in my profile that I had babysat children for a few years and I have younger siblings, and I got lots of interest from host families :)
Omg, you were doing the 18 year old laundry?! Oh hell no. He is old enough to wash his own dam laundry. You're suppose to do the children's laundry not the perants and grown 18 year olds laundry
Right?! Funny thing is, I recently met the family's new Aupair and she's leaving early as well for the SAME reasons! Smh
You should try and move to the UK if you have the chance.
Maybe some day!
Can you talk about where you taught English?
Forsure! The main site I used was Preply, but I used Cambly for a bit as well
Life lessons the grass always looks greener on the other side. You should have kept with the first family. Number 2 going on here and saying you had a second job teaching english when visa only gives you right to work as with families is shooting yourself in the foot
I'm quite certain the French government has better things to worry about than me working online but thanks for the concern Neil x
My name is Tiona Marie
heeeeey name twin 💙
