I like to think the SS86 figure is Robert Stack and the Kingdom figure is Jack Angel, lol. It's kinda crazy to me to think the SS86 figure is the same size as the G1 toy. I remember thinking the G1 toy was so big, and now as an adult, I though the SS86 figure felt big but, damn, he's the same size. XD
I don't like the lower legs and feet- but wow, I can't believe how self-contained it is. Well done. CANNOT BELIEVE HE HAS THE MATRIX IN HIS CHEST!!! Awesome. Need it.
Those arms need the roll-ball thing that Transmetal 2 Optimus Primal - Optimal Optimus had. Still to this day his arms are possible (well, one of them is a little loose after twenty years of play, but, yeah). Man. That is cool.
I got this guy very recently, he’s my first commander class figure that I bought and I have to say he’s awesome 😎. The Robot mode looks fantastic, very G1 accurate, big, beefy and Magnus. Ik most people are complaining about his shoulders being too wide, but it doesn’t bug me that much due to his complex transformation. My major gripe with this figure is his transformation. It’s mostly straightforward but those knee joints are terribly designed, I couldn’t transform him properly the first time because I couldn’t get the knees to shift, due to them being way too tight. I do also find his size to be perhaps a little too big, since he doesn’t scale well with characters like Galvatron and Cyclonus. However, I am just nitpicking and the figure looks absolutely awesome and it’s well worth the price imo, the quality plastic feels premium, the joints are sturdy and he’s just awesome 😎.
no way!!! the instructions don't say anything about that... I was wondering if that were possible but didn't want to risk ruining the figure, considering the amount of money I paid for it including shipping...
I'm hoping that the Studio Series aesthetic goes beyond the movies, and hopefully go to the comics (after all, they were drafted in studios). I hope that transformers that were only shown in the comics get the same treatment as the ones from the movies, both the live action or the animated movie. Or, what about the ones that have been in the G1 cartoon, but not in the movie? They need some attention too.
I know we can't take the scale in the cartoon 100% accurate but Magnus is supposed to be smaller than the dinobots , don't get me worng I pre-order it and I went gaga went it was announced, UM is my second fav autobot. I'm on the fence on his size tho. BTW I'm keeping my Siege, Kingdom and Spoiler Pack Magnuses lol
The only thing I find off is the visible head under the cab in alt mode. They could have solved that better. Otherwise this is the definitive Ultra Magnus depise the lack of the inner robot, it's no big deal. I'm ok for what it is. Nice review.
best commander yet and best ultra magnus for sure. so glad they eventually got rid of the white prime. the engineering is amazing. only thing are the outward shoulders. they could easily made the soft ratchets. other than that his perfect.
oh definitely bro! "soft ratchets" yes! that was the technical term I was looking for when describing what they could have done with the outward shoulder hinges, thanks man!
11:28 Ultra Magnus gimmick was a really good inclusion by Hasbro. The Prowl Ironhide 2 pack on the other hand was a terrible Hasbro idea. They shouldve made the 2 pack Prowl Ironhide no damage and merely include swappable parts for collectors to recreate that death scenes. Hasbro needs to give collectors choice.
@chefatron yeah I don't do it with alot mostly the bayformers bc there very hard to transform back and forth. Like for the main line revenge of the fallen jetfire I had to get a friend to help me put him in ship mode and since then I have never took him out of it.
Pro tip: disconnect the truck portion from the body for transformation. It's much easier to manage Ss86 commander optimus with removable battle damage... ooooohhh😮❤
man, the instructions never said anything about that... I was wondering if that were possible but didn't want to risk ruining the figure by trying it... thanks for the tip, though 😀
Call me crazy, but after seeing the scale, I cancelled my pre-order for him. Dont get me wrong, he is really good looking, but I rather have my Magnus smaller than Grimlock and bigger than Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime, but not by that much and not towering over them. The Kingdom version still looks nice enough to me, and at least I save myself from getting another Commander figure and burning my wallet more, cause the prices are crazy nowadays! Who knows, maybe they'll do another version in the distant future that's 1. more in scale with the others, 2. still toon accurate and has a proper alt mode, and 3. still has the white Prime feature. That might be an even better go-to Magnus than this one. But for now, I think the Kingdom version will suffice for me.
Plus it's a good time to explore other cool Transformers more outside of G1 such as that upcoming Legacy United Chase and some Beast Wars characters. By getting another Magnus, I just spend more on G1 for yet another updated version of the same characters. Will still get 86 Ratchet and Frenzy (cause I have no versions of those characters in my collection), but for Magnus, I think the Kingdom one should still hold well enough.
@@chefatronOK phew, glad I am not alone in that. Maybe if it goes on discount I'll consider it, but really gotta save up and rather have scale accuracy with decent enough figure at the moment. They even said they will likely revist Astrotrain in SS86 though honestly, I think the Siege/Earthrise one is fine enough.
ER Optimus and SS86 Dinobots scale are not the problem. Like half the deluxe minibots, SS86 Ultra Magnus breaks the cartoon scale that most of the modern line tried to comply with. He WAS NOT taller/bigger than the Dinobots. He was only slightly taller than Rodimus, Optimus, Galvatron, Clyclonus etc in both the TF movie and Season 3 etc. Hasbro has basically been sliding back into ignoring scale again, regardless of the toy line (they ignore cartoon scale on their MP stuff too, so it isn't something new). It allows them to charge more by upping the class bracket/price and being bigger does allow them more leeway with engineering/design. It's a good figure. But I am not going to display it on my Season 3-4 roster shelves. Just going to stick to my Kingdom Ultra Magnus for that. I am displaying 86 Magnus with Ginrai and other randoms instead. If you want to see how Magnus actually fared on the cartoon scale compared to all the other characters, there are charts available on TFW2005 and elsewhere.
This version of ultra Magnus is definitely a compromise of what they wanted to bring to the fans. The spring loaded chest pop open gimmick hails back to the Transformers 86 movie; whereas his chest in the cartoon opened up exactly the same way. So I guess it was a nod to that particular scene.
yeah, i figured as much... I do worry about the springs becoming loose over time, but it is an amazing gimmick, something we really deserve for the commander class price point...
Now we just need a proper Studio Series Arcee. Cause Hasbro has always disrespected Arcee with cheap, zero dollar budget, schlock, garbage engineering releases of her looking like the queen of backpacks.
@@chefatron he really does! Looks like Hasbro and Takara took the MP Magnus and scaled it down and made it more simplistic in terms of the engineering and transformation.
If you want a perfect recreation of his G1 look, he's great, but that look was a product of limitations at the time. Compared to Siege Ultra Magnus, Siege has far more details in the aesthetic, better proportions, a simpler transformation, and more playability. Compared to RiD 2001 Ultra Magnus, he looks less like a car carrier in alt mode and doesn't have the same functionality. This is a toy that is great for nostalgia, but objectively bad.
A nice new Commander class Optimus Prime would be great... honestly, I don't know why they didn't just downscale their MP-10 Optimus trailer and tweak it a little for the Kingdom/Earthrise version, instead of wasting budget on that plain jane tiny pee wee trailer... but, hey... it's Hasbro, so even THEY don't know why they do some of the stupid things they do.😂😂😂 But, yes, they definitely need to put a nicely done SS86 commander class Optimus together SOON...! Earthrise/Kingdom bot is great, so maybe just a slight upscale and some tweaks, and then focus on a really great trailer base mode with a Roller that does more than just... roll. 😅 What I really want to see is a Titan class budget for a freaking awesome POWERMASTER OPTIMUS PRIME AND APEX ARMOR SET... Commander class just wouldn't be enough budget or proper size, without having to do them separately, and a year or more apart... POWERMASTER Prime has to be a big @$$ bot, but he's not a Titan unless he's merged with the armor... I keep hoping, but until Hasbro gets him right, I have my awesome Fans Toys PMOP (Power Baser). That said, this is a really great Ultra Magnus figure. The best we've gotten thus far...! I'm anxiously, yet patiently, awaiting my pre-order to arrive in November...! I'll be relegating the Earthrise UM to use as my modern RiD version, as that's virtually the truck style from the 2000's toy line... and frankly, im surprised we didn't already get a HS or online exclusive repainted as the 2000 RiD Magnus. I'll keep my upgraded CW Magnus for his alt mode, and for other potential display options, since the PE upgrades fixed what Hasbro/IDW got very wrong...!
The size comparisons at the beginning of the video is fantastic!

Ss86 commander optimus with removable battle damage... ooooohhh😮❤
man, the instructions never said anything about that...
Will still get 86 Ratchet and Frenzy (cause I have no versions of those characters in my collection), but for Magnus, I think the Kingdom one should still hold well enough.
that's all good man... I know of other collectors who still prefer the kingdom or siege Magnus over this one
@@SlagSlugtheDinobot valid point bro
@@chefatronOK phew, glad I am not alone in that. Maybe if it goes on discount I'll consider it, but really gotta save up and rather have scale accuracy with decent enough figure at the moment. They even said they will likely revist Astrotrain in SS86 though honestly, I think the Siege/Earthrise one is fine enough.
@@SlagSlugtheDinobot that's awesome bro! good decision
Amazing figure but I think the scale is way off.
yeah, I think you're right...
100% I'm going to get this 🤩
awesome! happy hunting man
ER Optimus and SS86 Dinobots scale are not the problem. If you want to see how Magnus actually fared on the cartoon scale compared to all the other characters, there are charts available on TFW2005 and elsewhere.
that's cool man, I see your point
Wow, that’s a transformer without any shortcuts in design.
I know right?! and they seem to have all the budget for this figure LOL
86 prime would be great as he would have the bigger trailer and slightly bigger than er prime
oh yeah definitely !!!! I hope they give us that!
I want him
happy hunting man!
For $95 it's necessary for this awesome figure have everything it comes with.
yeah, definitely ! so glad they had the budget for this figure this time around...
B - E - A - U - T - I - F - U - L
indeed!
That it is what I call a masterpiece, I'm so glad to have skipped the kingdom version.
I know right?! yeah, the kingdom Ultra Magnus figure's price suddenly dropped like crazy 🤣
They got that scale way wrong
yeah, I thought as much...
Otherwise it's awesome but I don't feel I can display it with the other studio 86 figures
@@chefatron
cool
thanks so much!
Epic
thanks so much!
Maganda pero parang too big to scale.
Kung makaka-Commander Class Optimus Prime, dapat meron siyang extra accessories katulad ng axe at Roller...
yup, pero I'm sure gagawa sila ng SS86 Optimus Prime... para ok na scale
No wonder Ultra Magnus not worthy with the Matrix
hahahaha
Now we just need a proper Studio Series Arcee. Cause Hasbro has always disrespected Arcee with cheap, zero dollar budget, schlock, garbage engineering releases of her looking like the queen of backpacks.
Parang out of scale kasi si Grimlock mas malaki talaga yun kay Ultra Magnus. Halos kasinglaki lang ni Ultramagnus si Rodimus Prime.
yup, medyo nga
G1 Magnus has not aged gracefully.😄
sadly, but you can tell I had an amazing childhood right?
Didn’t expect this guy to be an absolute Beef Cake
hahahaha but he looks amazing!
@@chefatron he really does! Looks like Hasbro and Takara took the MP Magnus and scaled it down and made it more simplistic in terms of the engineering and transformation.
SS86 Ultra Magnus is bigger than WFC Trilogy Ultra Magnus.
Yeah and he also costs more
yes
Wow. The hands and legs can be removed like being chopping off....too violence.
yeah, just like what they did with Studio Series 86 Cup
Short of MP this is the best one they’ve done .. that being said .. this one does a couple things BETTER than the MP , buttflap
That’s crazy I couldn’t get a prime either until power master.. so UM was my FIGURE of FIGURES
indeed!
Just like Asuna from SAO said!
Hasbro does The Masterpiece Vibe, with seperation gimmick!
So pass, and no!
cool bro, but you should really take a second look at this figure...
This is a toy that is great for nostalgia, but objectively bad.
valid points man
Shattered glass
perhaps, but I doubt it...
transformers studio series dotm dread hatchet dog
ok
A nice new Commander class Optimus Prime would be great... honestly, I don't know why they didn't just downscale their MP-10 Optimus trailer and tweak it a little for the Kingdom/Earthrise version, instead of wasting budget on that plain jane tiny pee wee trailer... but, hey... it's Hasbro, so even THEY don't know why they do some of the stupid things they do.😂😂😂
But, yes, they definitely need to put a nicely done SS86 commander class Optimus together SOON...! Earthrise/Kingdom bot is great, so maybe just a slight upscale and some tweaks, and then focus on a really great trailer base mode with a Roller that does more than just... roll. 😅
What I really want to see is a Titan class budget for a freaking awesome POWERMASTER OPTIMUS PRIME AND APEX ARMOR SET...
I'll keep my upgraded CW Magnus for his alt mode, and for other potential display options, since the PE upgrades fixed what Hasbro/IDW got very wrong...!
oh I agree bro
very good points you have here man
you're right about that powermaster optimus prime
Unless yours comes with yellow hands and other parts like mine did. F hasblo
sorry to hear that man
