@@TheUncleShow Agreed. Personally I have more yolopark than blokees but I wanna get some more blokees too. What annoys me is the random boxes part. I wamt maybe 2 or 3 from each wave but I can't without literally gambling.
For me, I’d argue that Transformers are actually THREE toys in one. You have a poseable robot mode, a cool vehicle mode or modes depending on if it’s a triple changer, and a puzzle within the transformation. For me, if you take away the transformation aspect of a figure, it better compensate for it in other ways like paint, accuracy, and detail. For example, I bought the yolopark cogged d16 due to its size and accuracy to the film. I also ended up getting the cogless bots because the fact that they don’t transform is the whole point of there character design. Another factor is also accuracy to the movies like ROTB Scourge, that and the base job on a lot of the Amk pro series are extremely beautiful for the cost.
Fast to build/attach yes, but fun to build? Felt like we just attaching part that takes only couple of minutes to assemble which kinda lackluster compared to gunpla
Non-transforming figures work best for characters with complex designs, like with Bayverse or even the reboot series. With Threezero doing those designs well, and Yolopark is going to make bayverse figures too. For transforming figures, even with 3rd parties like Unique Toys that has more creative freedom and budget than official Hasbro/Takara figures, due to transformation they'll still have limitations that'll compromise the level of detail and articulation, compared to Threezero that has no worry for transforming and could be as detailed to the cgi models as they could get it to. Simple deisgns like G1 are easier to translate since their designs are very blocky and simple, they could still look good as a transforming figure
I also wish non-transforming figures gave more love to characters who don't even have alt modes like Transmutate or G1 Alpha Trion. While I don't mind Hasbro giving characters like that alt modes, they usually just transform into chunks of nothingness.
On paper, it allows you to get a more accurate robot mode with more articulation for a similar price. In practice you often get neither because we are spoiled with the ones that do transform, so the only successful attempts are model kits that cheap out on assembly costs by making you do that step yourself.
To this day, R.E.D. baffles me. At the time they came out, I just thought non-transforming Transformers in general was conceptually awful and should never happen. I have lightened up on the idea a little bit. It's still not something I really go for, but I can understand why some people would rather just have something that poses well and looks good on a shelf. But the timing of R.E.D. was so bizarre. They came out during the current era of Transformers where we're getting figures that are poseable and pretty darn faithful to whatever character they're based on. Like you said, it only made sense for characters that are practically impossible to make as transformable figures. But they messed that line up big time. To add insult to injury for what you've already said about that line, Hasbro didn't give the slightest crap about the scale between those figures. Size inaccuracies annoy me enough with the transformable figures, but it's flat-out unforgivable to mess the size up when they don't transform. G1 Bumblebee should not be the same height as G1 Optimus. R.E.D. could have been a decent line, but with the line coming out the way it did, I'm glad it failed. I might give Blokees a try at some point though. I love building things, and I like their character selection.
Yolopark ain’t that bad it’s quite nice I got the Optimus Prime 40th anniversary amk and I prefer Yolopark to blokees because of the articulation and joint tolerances but blokees is also great
The point of non-transforming Transformers is to have a SHOW/MOVIE ACCURATE figures that are affordable and posable. Scratch "affordable" when we talk about those "poseable statues" of Movie bots that are 1:1 screen accurate that would be impossible to make transformable (not even MPM can ever be 1:1 accurate.). And finally, it make perfect sense for characters that never transformed to begin with. Like the G1 Pretenders (shells). I love my Super 7 Ultimate Bludgeon, and Marvel Legends Death Hand. Also, S7 ReAction Proto-Unicron, the only way to have that derpy character.
Blocky's is a line I'm glad exist because as someone who dabbles in gundam model kit collecting now I have an excuse to probably buy some Transformers related model kits just so I can have some in scale next to my gundam's. Not to mention I'm still impressed by how well done these little model kits are and the fact that they're so good at what they do I'm glad that they've been getting a lot more love. That being said Mr. Uncle we need to discuss about your obsession with prime Arcee because I think you need to go see a Doctor I would suggest ratchet lol.
Really they fall into two categories 1) no transformation to save money 2} no transformation to robot mode presentation. Usually the first one is a waste of time but sometimes can be fun. The second one is where non transforming figures can really shine. I particularly like ThreeZero's MDLX line. It seems like the transformation / play value is more important to you than sculpt because the Yolopark kits look miles better than the studio series bots, so thats the niche theyre filling. Nothing wrong with that though
@MagicMensch so what's funny is I think there was a file mix up before the 4k version because I noticed Laser Prime shows up twice by accident in this video. Oops.
They make non transforming figures so they can be more accurate and closer to the source material. They are also cheaper (most of the time.) Id gladly get a $15 blokees classic class instead of a deluxe or voyager.
I think Blokees are a different story but as we've seen with this video, there are some that fail even the accuracy test and aren't cheaper than just getting a proper figure.
Its insanely simple and this shouldn't such a massive controversy. The transformation hinders strucutre, poseability and can even damage the figure, some people just want a poseable figure to act as a representative of the character. Currently collecting legacy and soon age of the primes stuff and i basically never tocuh vehicle mode unless the figure starts in it.
I have all of the Yolopark mini G1 figures and yeah that Soundwave is probably one of the weaker figures from the set, you should've gotten like Bumblebee or Megatron since those guys are a lot easier to move
I used to never understand it. Thinking non-transforming Figures didn't do it right. Then I got Threezero TLK Optimus, and wow. I get it. It looks just like the model. And it feels absolutely amazing. I'll love Hasbro for their accurate vehicles, but TZ will be my go to for robots
Regarding why someone would want a Threezero DLX figure a great example is Megatron. Threezero puts extra effort into the sculpting. Look at other Megatron heads on the 3rd party offerings and the official MPM08 and Threezero's head has significantly more detail and sculpting. Where 3rd party has to budget out on transformation, ThreeZero uses that to give Megatron an upper and lower ab crunch and make the sculpt as detailed as possible. ROTF Optimus didn't get the same love, however they did announce they would make a 2.0 version under the 2007 movie branding and I expect them to fix all the innacuracies and proportion issues that the ROTF had.
@rolandodr98 my thing is however is that the value isn't as good and honestly sometimes detailing gets into law of diminishing returns in regards to figures and cost. Put a studio series against a masterpiece, theres a big improvement. But a wei Jiang scale up Optimus against DLX theres probably not as big of a leap.
I haven't been into transformers really since the late 2000's. Past decade and a half I've been huge into Gundam and gunpla. Something that really appeals to me is a show accurate sculpt that poses really well. I do not care at all for whether or not something can transform between 2 different modes. As long as the mecha looks good and poses well, I don't need the vehicle form. The only Gundam that is an exception to this rule is the Epyon, and the only Transformer that is an exception is Cybertron Scourge. As an adult collector, I just want the robot.
I....really disagree, Transformers kinda makes itself stand out with the whole transformation aspect and turning into anything, strip that away in toy form and you're taking away a key part of their identity. Like there are THOUSANDS of giant robots out there. But Transformers remains it's own unique thing. There have been attempts at transforming robot franchises but none of them came close.
@TheUncleShow that's a very valid point, and something I can't dispute. I will never claim that they should phase out transforming toys in favor of non-transforming ones, but there are several people who are just like me, and will not care in the slightest about the toy's alt form. I've got a few Yolopark figures and even more Blokees and both of these feel like perfect fits for that market. These figures sacrifice the engineering needed to transform in order to have better articulation and more source material accurate sculpts. Eliminating all kibble for a completely accurate robot mode is a welcome compromise for me. I'll still buy all the transforming toys that come out that I like, but I'll never have any reason to transform them. The best transforming toys are the ones that don't compromise either form with their transformation, something that hasn't been consistent since the Unicron trilogy 20 years ago when they actually based the show models around toys.
I remember there being this really cool lady decepticon who only got a non-transforming figure. The name escapes me at the moment but the figure of her was cool looking
