  • In this video I demonstrate the proper methods of cleaning and rebuilding a turbocharger . Turbos are pretty simple to work on with basic tools and skills. More and more custom motorcycles and cars being customized with turbos and superchargers, so it's good to have rebuilding experience for when they wear out and fail.

    BIG ERROR: turbines are balanced so you must mark the relative position of both turbines before open the shaft.

    • @kneecaps2000
      @kneecaps2000 4 года назад

      @@billyarden9708 no balance really needed as the wheels are the same. However the clocking of the turbine wheel and compressor wheels relative to each other is important if you want to retain the original balance. Although if you don't follow that the turbo is unlikely to fly apart..it may...may...fail a little earlier though.

I've got an important meeting first thing and I want to get to work as quick as possible so that I'm not late: it's kind of an interview for a senior manager position (it's a real big deal). Spending a few hours rebuilding my turbot should help me relax and make sure I don't flounder at the interview.

    Is the left handed vise grips a metric, standard or universal?

    After following this, I gave it a spin up using my harbor freight pancake compressor. It smelled minty fresh. Only one question: how many torks do I need to compress the thrush washer?

    Badass..... I just realised that i have blue polishing compound that i have used to polish my teeth to pristine condition....... but anyway i smashed one of my teeth, so can i use the blue assembly lube to fix it ? Does it have any adhesive titanium molecyles to properly make that teeth badass ?

    • @IchibanMoto
      @IchibanMoto  8 лет назад

      +TT GarageRat the lube is to ensure smooth assembly and protects the turbo bearing surfaces on initial start up. It can take the oil a second or two to build up proper pressure, and you don't want premature wear of brand new bearings. For your tooth, you can just use dental grade oral adhesive

    Excellent improvisation- please put up a video on the torque wrench and the ultrasonic cleaner. Just wondering, do you have a home-brewed turbo balancing machine as well? How did you balance the rebuilt core?

    • @IchibanMoto
      @IchibanMoto  5 лет назад +1

      i do have videos on both the torque meter and the ultrasonic / i still need to build a balancer so in the meantime, i had to have it balanced

    Thanks, good video, while many commenters want to snip about tools and balancing turbos are pretty simple machines.

    Would you lock tite all bolts/nuts or just the compressor wheel nut?

    • @IchibanMoto
      @IchibanMoto  2 года назад +1

      it really depends on the make model. some kits the bolts come with lock washers, some with locktite on the compressor housing. also i use anti-seize on the turbine side threaded studs

    Weird. That looks just like the turbo on my GF's old Vespa. I didn't know you could use a two stroke turbo on a CB750. I learn something new every day around here!

    Is it okay if I use white assembly paste on my blue '02 Kawasaki ex250 RR high output turbo? Someone told me I could ONLY use the blue with tartar control on the '01 thru '08 Kawasaki because build up at the red-line was an issue, so i needed to clarify before I make my ninja truly Ichiban "bad ass".

    • @IchibanMoto
      @IchibanMoto  8 лет назад

      +Major Pain If you have plumbed cooling water through the bearing housing, you might get away with white. If not, you certainly want to control the tartar build up.

    This video made it seem so much more easy. You earned my subscription. I can say I was scared to do this. Now to rebuild my Subaru turbo that's been screaming at me for weeks FIX ME! while I periodically pickup and put down the rebuild kit. Yelling NO!!!! I'm not qualified!!
