@northmanlogging2769 facts, even in Bulgaria they wanted to charge me 650$ for a Garett turbo. Both for my Nissan X-trail diesel(Rouge in usa) and e350cdi
That's what I was thinking when he said he used his wife's dishwasher, I'm surprised he could get away with just joking about that.he has more balls than me that's for sure.😢
My screwdriver doesn't have a handle, so I had trouble tapping it to remove the compressor. I had a look around and the only thing I could find was a frozen hotdog. After a few taps it came right off, plus it smells like hotdogs now! Thanks Ichiban!
Like the bit where he says "A lot of these are metric so make sure you use the right tools" Then he goes and uses mole grips and a knife to undo nuts and bolts. :/
this is the best tutorial i have found on rebuilding a turbo yet! simple and straight forward, now i can rebuild my turbocharger with my vise grips and scissors :D
Good work. A very informative video indeed. I'm going to take the turbo out of my car this evening and service is ready for the morning commute. I've got an important meeting first thing and I want to get to work as quick as possible so that I'm not late: it's kind of an interview for a senior manager position (it's a real big deal). Spending a few hours rebuilding my turbot should help me relax and make sure I don't flounder at the interview. Este video es malo burro!
My ex wife had turbo problems. She went to our local garage and the mechanic said it looked like she had blown a seal. No she said, i have just had an ice cream.
Mike- Would have been nice to get a heads up on where I should spend my hard earned gold coins on that new fangled Torque wrench. I'm sure Joes Garage would have one layin' around.
This video made it seem so much more easy. You earned my subscription. I can say I was scared to do this. Now to rebuild my Subaru turbo that's been screaming at me for weeks FIX ME! while I periodically pickup and put down the rebuild kit. Yelling NO!!!! I'm not qualified!!
Makes me want to rip the turbo off my car and overhaul it immediately. And it ain't even broke. Thanks. Your choice of tools seems heavily inspired by McGyver though.
have you seen those multiturbo compound setups with a large and small turbo plumbed in series? one to spool quick and the second monster for top end? I might add that to my Honda minitrail
I hope, dear friend, I hope! As well as for my two lefthanded leatherman's, with which I repair most of my cars - as I have one metric and one of those illegal ones, like you bad ass seem to use)
I had to make mine... I have a how-to video here on youtube. The snap off truck has good ice cream and I look forward to hearing the music during the summer
Dear Ichi, Just stumbled upon your channel, and enjoy hearing your voice again. I'm Bendosan, I'm sure you will remember me, were both young mechanics on many race teams back in the day. It's great to see you passing on your knowledge to the younger generation. I'll try to keep in touch, but internet access from prison is limited. Stay Badass!
Weird. That looks just like the turbo on my GF's old Vespa. I didn't know you could use a two stroke turbo on a CB750. I learn something new every day around here!
My mechanic installed a new turbo Cartridge but is loosing exhaust at the housing connection. He said that he tightened the bolts right . Do you have any suggestions why is not sealing right?
mechanic should back up his work and make it right for you. maybe he left out a seal or gasket, it was not loosing exhaust before he put spanners to it, right?
@@IchibanMoto my Cartridge needed replaced. The problem is that there is not a gasket on the exhaust side of the turbo. So im not sure how it supposed to do a thight seal.
I shared your channel with AvE and his clients. He holds the patent on the Swedish Nut Lathe. All you do is round it off to the proper torque and your done, left or right hand thread doesn't matter.
"Make sure to use the right tool" xD I love your Videos, ichiban. Since 42 years, I work on motorcycles, it seems I did everything wrong, using professional tools
after I get the funny spot, now I can fully understand your video. funny and useful. Love your video, thanks. keep making more! I give you 50 at 5 Ichiban Moto sticker!
I'm so glad my bike doesn't have a turbo. Partially due to the incredible complexity (wizard like turbo knowledge there Ichiban) and mostly because there's no room in my tooling budget for left handed vise grips. I already have a metric set and an imperial set. Can't quite run to another! Great watch, as ever.
It's a shame the vast majority of people are right handed. It makes the market for left handed vice grips smaller. I'm having so much trouble finding one.
+Alban Gaval I'm left handed, been so all my life... needless to say, I've amassed quite the collection of left handed hand tools. I've got some spares I'd be willing to trade for a metric monkey wrench...
Excellent video, first of yours I've watched. I'm hooked, found you through Mustie1, I get the tools thing and find it incredibly funny. It's a nice counterpoise to the rest of the video, which is incredibly informative, and very well done. Thanks, I've some catching up to do...
I might be able to help you find one, but i just installed a new Vtec chip in my rx7 the other day, it was difficult, i wish i had your help. keep on making vids man, you have my whole office in hysterics every day. we give you 6/5.5 ichiban stickers. love your work
Wow, this video was super usefull... The turbo on my front wheel has come loose, and I think that I would forget to make index marks if I hadnt watch the video... Thanks Ichiban!
I like your precision tool , and multiple purposes domestic dishwasher, including the clock ratchet, job well done ❤, kindly can we hear it running on the car 😂🎉 , greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Been a mechanic for 40 years, got a load of laughs out of your video. Very funny stuff. Lots of sly references there, and the job got done. I am curious as to where you got your Torque Wrench, looks like it might be an old Craftsman.
Great video i ordered the snap on tool kit in video (just under $1100.00) But now have to wait for it to be shipped. So in the mean time i'm installing my cross drilled brake lines, and my new o-pipe exhaust (50 hp gain BTW) If by then tools havent arrived i will substitute turbo with hair dryer to avoid engine damage.

Argggghhhhh! You forgot to mention installing the circular heat shield plate against the exhaust side turbine BEFORE putting the shaft into the housing. Fortunately I noticed I had one part left over...after it was completely assembled. Otherwise, thanks for an excellent video, and for the humor too.
After following this, I gave it a spin up using my harbor freight pancake compressor. It smelled minty fresh. Only one question: how many torks do I need to compress the thrush washer?
can I borrow your wife's dishwasher jus need to degrease some axles don't worry I got a full set of left handed wrenches I'm good dude this video was best I've seen in a long time

BIG ERROR: turbines are balanced so you must mark the relative position of both turbines before open the shaft.
I was about to ask about this.
So say he were to replace the compressor wheel.... how would he balance that against the existing Turbine?
says who? oh right, the guys that charge $700 to rebuild a $650 turbo
