  • Out of nowhere it seems RIDGID is now making welders and when we go to Home Depot, we see some interesting information. In the past couple years, Home Depot has killed off several brands in order to make room for TTI alternatives. Are Lincoln welders next?

I recently watched a video of a bunch of Pakistanis making hammers. They were all in the room tossing around glowing red hammer heads and using huge air hammers to shape them while nobody was wearing any sort of safety glasses, and most of them were just wearing sandals on their feet. Places like that with guys working in them like that are who we are competing with. Next time you join a union and threaten to go on strike, that’s where your job is going too!

I'm betting money that TTI is paying a lot of money to home depot to push the smaller American brands out.

I got the RMP-140 a couple months ago to try out. It is absolutely an orange Forney Easy Weld 140 MP. I checked the manual page by page and the only thing different is RIDGID in place of Forney in the naming, every instruction is identical and every page is the same between the two. Forney has a good history and I thought this was a solid machine for its intended use. HD was a little lower price at the time than the Forney.

My local HD sold Ridgid pipe wrenches, made in USA. About 3 years ago I noticed that the Ridgid wrenches are gone, replaced with Chinese made tools. HD puts American jobs in jeopardy just to make a few bucks more.

I noticed yesterday in Home Depot there was nothing Lincoln electric anymore all welders gloves wire and any other welding supplies were all rigid brand curious to see how these welders do I have a Lincoln hd3200 I bought probably 20 years ago from lowes it’s still running like the day I bought it I don’t plan on replacing it does mostly everything I need it to but these rigid ones caught my interest

I mean look at the lincoln welders at HD. They have A LOT of dust on em. The kind of people that use lincoln are buying them from Airgas with a corporate account. Chinesium welders are pretty good these days and unless you're welding everyday all day, you don't need the duty cycle that comes with the lincoln/Miller at 4x the price point. And let's be serious here. "American" welders aren't really. They're using rhe same components as the Chinese are. The "manufacturer" is just putting components from elsewhere in a box the same way the people that build their own PCs do.

It's been looking to me like RIGID have been slapping their name on alibaba imports for a while now. They're not the rugged tools maker my dad used for his plumbing and pipefitting. When I started buying my own tools I trusted the Rigid name because my dad did and his tools from the '70s still hold up, but the Rigid tools I bought have given up the ghost and the lifetime warranty is no more because apparently the lifetime warranty was only until they discontinue one chinese import in favor of another chinese import, so it was the lifetime of availability of the tool they slapped their logo on.
I trust the HF name more than I trust Rigid these days.

@@TheJttv And except the wet/dry vacs. AFAIK those are still made by Emerson Electric itself. Emerson owns the Ridgid (orange) brand and contracts with TTI to manufacture the orange Ridgid tools. Ridgid (red) tools, largely targeting plumbing professionals, are made by Ridge Tool company, which is itself owned by Emerson. It's practically a part time job keeping track of it all.
