@@diysbydar I think I’m taking an indefinite break from commissions from strangers after that one. 😅 The renovations themselves were interesting. As an antique phonograph enthusiast this was hard to watch. It's a little earlier dating to between 1922-1924, it's an unbranded budget model to be sold in various local department stores across the country. You're right that's it's not very valuable, maybe between $50-$200 in the condition you found it in but definitely salvageable. The parts could've been replaced/repaired, and the cabinet could've been cleaned up. Steel wool and GoJo (hand cleaner), Howard's Restore-a Finish and finally some varnish in the lighter spots to balance it out. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind converting old furniture, unless it can be converted back. The changes you made prevented it from being converted back in the future if someone wanted. The sad thing about this whole shabby chic movement is people see videos like this or Pinterest boards and do absolutely no research on the one they own and ruin perfectly fine or even rare phonographs just to "upscale" them. I don't want my comment to come off too critical, I'm glad you saved it from a landfill, keep in mind people still collect these. A young local person just getting their hands in the hobby would have loved to restore it, I know I would have.
