    As a mountain guide I owned a TON of Gore-Tex gear that was given to me. When I went to spend my own money, however, I always looked for an eVent option. Especially for trips were I would be working hard. The difference in breathability between the eVent Basilisk jacket and my (Popular Name Brand) Gore-Tex Adventure Jacket is night and day.

    I’ve used both Gore-Tex and eVent. In my opinion event is more breathable, but is not as windproof or water proof. Also goretex is far more durable. Also which line of goretex were you using for the testing? It did not look like the pro-shell which is far superior to most companies in every standard test.

      eVent is superior for dry snow rockies and gore-tex is better for PNW.

    Lots of good waterproof products out there. The biggest advantage of Gore Tex in the level of accountability Gore Tex requires of its vendors. If you don’t make a great product i.e. double tape seems etc. you get your license revoked to make gore Tex products.

      Clamminess might be to do with the inside layer if it's a priNted/laminated 1/2 layer it does tend to collect water droplets. The end result/performance of these membrane varies wildly depending on the outer fabric and inside layer. The inside layer is all about insulation/wicking skin feel.and then the outer fabric deal with abrasion resistance water beading duties and weight control. Polyester is hydrophobic but heavier. Nylon is more widely used because it's much lighter and water shedding could be dealt with by using dwr treatment. The combinations are endless that's why there are so many brands makiNg claimiNg different products

    What is wear rate of the chemical that you use on the inside and can it be reapplied ? If so how?

    • @MoskoMoto
      @MoskoMoto  2 года назад

      Hey! Great questions. The anti-contamination treatment is permanent. There is no way to reapply. DWR can be reapplied to maintain surface tension and keep the water beading on the surface, but there is no way to treat the membrane other than cleaning it by laundering the garment per wash instructions.

    How durable is the eVent since it only has an unspecified chem coating, as opposed to a PU layer laminated to it on both sides like Gore-Tex?
    eVent has to give up something otherwise Gore would be doing the same thing.

    • @CasChet1
      @CasChet1 5 лет назад +9

      TheLastFoiter regardless if the ePTFE is laminated or chem treated, the membrane is only as durable as the jacket shell it is in. They (gore or event) laminate or chem treat ePTFE membrane because oils (body, food, or chem oils). Oils block the small pores that make the jacket “breath”. With chem treatment, the technology applies an oil repellent that repels oils while allowing the holes to breath. As where a laminated PU, covers the ePTFE membrane to protect from oils, but the laminate covers the small holes too!
      Gore doesn’t do the chem coating because of copyright. Just like Gore, no one did ePTFE till the copyright patent expired. Since the patent expired 20 years ago, company’s now can make that product. eVents treatment is currently copyright so, Gore can’t do the same thing. FYI, if Gore didn’t laminate their product, it would blow bubbles like the eVent, but once any oil touches the product ie body oil, it will compromise the product.
      Hope that helps

    These products are probably just marginally superior. That's how I look at things. Take smart phones, they are really neat inventions, so a lot of users would buy, making it even cheaper.
    With Goretex, it's been around for more than 30 years, and the prices still haven't dropped? Sounds like buying a diamond ring to me. More hype than function.

    Air is a smaller molecule than moisture . So what you said at 2:00 is impossible . At say 86 degrees F there can only be 4 percent of water vapors making the rest air . At -40 degrees f there is less than 0.2 percent of water vapor so that's a lot of air passing through . Since air molecules is smaller than water vapor that can pass through what makes you thing a smaller molecule can't ? If water vapor can pass through a material so can air since air makes up the biggest part of water vapor. Every time a water vapor droplet passes through the gortex remember 96 percent and more is air and only 4 percent is water vapor .

    • @HardwareG33k

      what the fuck are you talking about. Reading that actually damaged my brain a little, I think.
      "since air makes up the biggest part of water vapor". What? No. Water vapour is literally just water in a gaseous state. No part of that is air.
      What he said at 2:00 was certainly over simplified. To begin with, there is no such things as an "air molecule". Air is made up from several different molecules.

    GORE-TEX PACLITE® is basically a glorified plastic bag. GORE-TEX PRO® is marginally better. Resort guests are often reduced to wearing plastic bag covers over their $$$$ tech clothing during mixed rain & snow days in the Pacific Northwest. Bring a change of clothing if you want to ride all day.

    A video by a guy with skin in the game. As soon as you said your products use eVent you lost credibility. This should be titled “why eVent is better than Gore-Tex. My Alpinestars is Gore-Tex and yes, it’s warm and It can cause me to get clammy in it but it works to keep out he rain. I’d like to see someone like Ryan from Fort Nine compare your material to Gore Tex. That’s a dude that puts it all to the test.

      Obviously he has a preference, but he does literally say "...this shows why we chose eVent.... don't take my word for it, there's a ton of information on the internet, go out and do your own research". I thought it was a fairly informative video showing the differences.
