I love miniatures too. I’m often create small vignettes for my dolls and what I did instead of buying dollhouse I took a bookshelf, not an expensive one. like the ones that you get from target or IKEA and I turned it into a doll house. Each cubby it was turned into a different room or a set. For example I have a nine cubby Billy bookshelf (you could use a much smaller one) in one cubby I have a miniature café complete with donuts Starbucks coffee cups, coffee mugs, mini muffins and so on. Then I have a boutique where I made tiny shelving out of card stock and foam board that I got from the dollar. I have to say I have had so much fun with this and since they were inexpensive bookshelves, I didn’t feel badly about cutting a small door into the wood of the bookshelf. It really helps with my anxiety and my creativity.
I’ve been watching you for little under a year now and I was in such a dark place but you have so much light about you. Youve taught me to find the good in all things everyday. You’ve encouraged me to keep a positive outlook, you are the kind of mother I hope to be one day and you and your family deserve nothing but love and light. Xoxo
I like the idea of the mourner initiating conversation. Sometimes no matter what difficult or sad times a person is going thru, it is just nice to know someone is there if you need them but the person might not always be in a mood to talk.
Happy Birthday! I loved my 40s even more than the 30s. Now that I'm 53, I can't say I love this time more. The body is taking a toll. I am however looking forward to my second grandchild in June. God bless!
Happy birthday, Chana! (probably belated, though.) It looks like you had a wonderful day. On a more serious note, I'm so impressed that you took your children to the Shiva house. Participating in that ritual was such an important lesson, although they may not realize it at the moment. I was frequently taken along if my parents or grandparents needed to pay their respects at a funeral home; it was an "organic" way for me to learn that death is a part of life. It also helped that I was born into a family of faith; I can remember my grandfather telling me that the body in the casket wasn't really the person we knew - it was only a shell for the soul which had departed and gone on. And later, I remember my mom telling me that funerals aren't for the dead but for the living so loved ones have a chance to mourn.
When I was a child, my dad made me a dollhouse out of cardboard and painted it; he made the furniture for it, and we used fabric swatches, felt, and carpet samples for the carpets.
Happy Birthday Chana!! Love the little dudes rubber boots. My son used to wear his red rubber boots everywhere all the time, and he would call them his fireman boots boots. He thought he was gonna be able to help the firemen if he have his boots on!

My daughter absolutely loved dollhouses, Calico Critters, and any miniature toys. My grandfather built me a dollhouse like the kits you saw, and used some of my outgrown clothes for carpet and our house linoleum scraps flooring, and my grandmother sewed other items. I played with it a lot and then my daughter did. I hope you find something to house all your fun miniatures!

Lol there is always cake involved! One year I doctored up a gluten free Pesach cake mix and it was actually really amazing! Milk instead of water, extra egg, and a few other things I can’t remember:)

When I was a kid, I was out shopping with my grandmother who was handed an extra dollar in change at the department store. She only realized it when we were in another store. We walked back the distance (despite her age) and she stood in line and returned the dollar. My point is that those things really stick with a child as a barometer of the character of the grown up. You remind me of life as a mom having all my children in my thirties and appreciating my children much more because I had them later (not my choice as I didn't get married until I was 30). I married a man with 2 children and we had 4 of our own. We had many challenges the last 30+ years but it's been worth it. Looking forward to hearing about your new baby.
