  • in this video I install the window trim clip pin. what I ended up doing was measuring the distance from the original panel then installed the pins in the same location. I show you step-by-step how to do it and what part numbers to use. Thanks for watching.

    I’m not a paint/body guy, but I’ve built most of my Chevelle. Body shop has been slow and one thing I need done is the installation of these studs. Watching your video, I’m gaining confidence that I can do this part of the work myself. Maybe if I get them all done he’ll move past it and get the paint done. 🤔. Thanks for making this video.

      One more question… are the stud screws for the side molding the same as the window trim? (On my ‘68). Google hasn’t helped me on an answer for this.

      I have a 68 Chevelle as well. Are you referring to the felt trim for the window glass ? If so there are clips that slide in, they clip in-center. then you have a screw on the outside corners of the trim. I hope this helps

    Good to know. I just finished re-doing the lower rear window trim to (hopefully) seal a lead I had below the trim. My clips (on my 69 Chevelle) were the elongated ones that slip over the pin and then slide into position. Good luck. Thanks for the follow up.

    Just checked my "Fisher Body" 1969 assembly/service manual and it confirms that the clip your showing for the front is actually for the rear (at least for 69 model GM cars.)

    • @classicrewind2715
      @classicrewind2715  2 года назад

      They are interchangeable. When I ordered them from OPG they actually came from a Trans Am 78 if I'm not mistaken. That's what the packaging said but the front it's different from the rear. The front has an adjustability space. it has three different locations for you to clip into the stud. I hope this helps. all the best

    I was going to go this way with my 69 and my 72 but I am pretty sure I am just going to try to work out flush mount glass. I have not looked into it in years, but I hope the kits are still out there. I do know that the rear window was going to be a miracle to get done.

    • @classicrewind2715
      @classicrewind2715  3 года назад

      I was debating to do that as well, flush mounted glass. The problem is you have to weld the Channel all the way around the window frame to accept the glass. My friend did that with his barracuda. It came out fantastic but too much work.

    • @sshep7119
      @sshep7119 3 года назад

      @@classicrewind2715 Yep, I am already planning it. I was going to do a roof skin on my 72 as the windshield pinch weld area is toast, but I am thinking I will just try to use the metal work to make the glass fit properly. I know the rear glass needs to be metal worked in as there was never a flush mount piece for that. I thought about the Fesler glass kit, but there are more law suits than successful builds with their products at this point.

    I’m building a 1970 Camaro and I have the same front and rear trim clips. The screws are the correct ones with the sealant already on them. But I don’t know how deep to set them or how many. Think I could just do the 1/2” down all the way around front and rear and kinda match yours on the GTO ? They are all the same depth right ?

    • @classicrewind2715

      The window clips should be the same on the Camaro. Is there any window clips left anywhere in the window Channel.? If You don't have any clips , I would try to Dry fit the window clip and see if you can Mark where the center would be. Let me know how you make out. All the best

      @@classicrewind2715 yeah but only on the rear filler panel between the trunk deck lid and the glass. I’ve been researching this and I’m hearing 5/16”,1/2”,and 3/8”. But then also was told to just center them in the channel. Also I’ve learned to not use the tape/seal and to have it glued in. They are saying the trim clips need to be in before they can set the glass but the trim studs must be installed prior to the glass ??? 🤯👈
      This has been one of the most frustrating aspects so far in restoring this car. I’ve replaced everything on it. The only original metal is the firewall and the package tray.. the one piece roof from daynacorn doesn’t have the trim studs, the rear quarters from them doesn’t either... It’s been quite the learning experience to say the least. But I’d do it all over again to have a brand new 1970 Camaro setting in the garage if you know how rusty they get. It’s getting down to high prices and slim pickings. LS3 and drivetrain from a 2013 Camaro 2SS installed and that was some extra work. Lemme tell ya. But again worth every bit to have the power and reliably.. but these little hiccups are the most challenging part. For the silly little things you don’t even think of. I’m trying to avoid them.. lol thanks for your reply. God bless.

    • @classicrewind2715
      @classicrewind2715  2 года назад

      Yes, I know it is very frustrating working on these cars you don't know what to expect. My buddy built a 68 Camaro. He put custom glass and remove all of the window trim and made it a flush mount. You might consider that if you're going custom on your 70 Camaro. That will eliminate your clips for your window trim. Sorry I couldn't help you any further but you might want to go to a couple Camaro forums and ask them if they know the height of that window clip they might even send you pictures. Let me know how it works out for you. All the best

      @@classicrewind2715 thanks again for taking the time to reply. I am a lifetime member of nastyz28 and on Camaros forum's. That's where the depths I mentioned earlier came from. From what I can gather it's looking like it's not really precise. Guys are getting good results at 5/16" depth as well as up to 1/2". The trim has a bit of spring or flexibility in it as far as how deep those studs are installed.
      It's just something I don't want to screw up at this stage and would prefer to have a solid depth confirmed by several builders.
      I really appreciate your advice and the fact you even replied. I'm thinking about picking up my camera and starting a video series on the car project. I have a FOV drone channel but never thought people would be interested in a base model camaro project. But all the little mountains I've had to climb may certainly have value to others. Such as this little clip/stud dilemma.. lol
      You have a blessed day my friend.

    • @classicrewind2715
      @classicrewind2715  2 года назад

      Thanks again Jason. I forgot to mention the studs, they stop at a certain point when it hits the metal. There's no other way to explain it. It bottoms out. If you look at the video closely you could see where the thread stops and then it is machined flat. you can't over screw it. As for the video process, it helps when you have to go back to refer to something you've done in the past. I actually refer to a couple of my videos just to freshen my memory how I did something. Thanks again my friend.

      @classicrewind2715  3 года назад

      That is a good question. I haven't really looked at that. When I get a chance I will measure it and get back to you. I would suggest you put the clip on one of the studs that is already around the window, That'll give you the dimension you need . All the best

    • @Mikeflorida7000

      A few studs survived the windshield channel, but I don’t remember if there’s any left in the rear window. I know I have a good reference for the side molding on the door, so I’ll be able to measure those easily. I’ll be looking at that when I get to the shop this afternoon, if the real world of work doesn’t prevent it.

      If you watch my video if I'm not mistaken I think it's in the center of the channel where the studs go. you might be able to adjust the clips a little bit but I'm not a hundred percent sure. Not home to check. Work is getting in the way. LOL. All the best

    • @classicrewind2715

      Thanks for commenting. I still had to measure down with my Square to get the proper height. I wanted to make sure that I was in the right location. The tape wouldn't fit in the channel where I wanted to drill. It would have sat on top and I still would have had to measure down. For me it's easier just to measure. All the best
