    One thing I have always liked about Tamiya is that they "talk" to you, the modeler, in their instructions - they relate to you. This kit further underscores their commitment to create strong brand preference with this latest state-of-the-art execution.

    Seems like you need a couple of hundred dollars of paint for these kits to get them like this...the kit is the least expensive part.

    What I love about Andy's videos is that he clearly explains every step. Other videos might sayput on some thinner. Andy explains that it's enamel or acrylic thinner. This makes it so much easier for novices to understand. Well done Andy!

  • @bibblebob
    @bibblebob 6 лет назад +2

    Something you might want to try next time you do a cockpit - I spray the entire thing first with a metallic silver colour, then use a coat of varnish, then undercoat/paint.
    I then use a hobby knife to scratch, or small bits of sandpaper to rub the top layer of paint off. That way, scratches/worn paint are genuine, better depth effect :)

    Tamiya always makes first class top of the line kits and this is no exception. Where this kit really shines is for the folks that build dioramas. It’s pretty much set up for that if you choose to do so. As always, your finished model looks terrific and thank you for another informative build.

    I am in the closing stages of building this kit and it has to rank as one of the finest models I've ever built . On numerous occasions I have let out a Wow ! when parts have gone together with such precision that the join has vanished as if by magic . The closed cowling is absolutely flawless . The only thing I messed up were the rudder pedals because I didn't understand how they fitted but they are barely visible . 10/10 👍

    Absolutely enjoy watching your build videos... I pick up some good ideas watching them. You use the SNJ powders but for things like guns and such, I use graphite lead to give a nice metal sheen. I have several drafting lead holders and the sharpener so every time I sharpen the lead, I empty the grindings into an old 35mm film canister. Awesome Build!

    Step by step? Mate, you completely skipped the paint job! At least show us and explain, 'step by step', how you achieved the paint job, i.e. what primer did you use? Which color did you put on first? And especially, you could have showed, step by step, how you achieved that mottled camouflage effect which is very characteristic of ME 109s!!

    probably 35 yrs since I built a model (wow, that hurts to say). When I stopped, the laser etched metal detail/add-on kits seemed to be getting big/traction. Are model kits like this Tamiya WW2 stuff generally the same, or have there been a set of improvements/changes/evolutions that occurred over the last few decades?

Just how many different 109s, mustangs and zeros do you think the world needs? Here is an idea, why not manufacturer some other 1/48th scale Japanese bombers to go along with the betty, you know something different for a change.

    speaking of TS-13. I have been wondering for a while; how glossy were WWII planes really? I often find myself having to guess most of the time with regards to how glossy or matt planes and tanks were in real life. I cannot find a lot info about it on the internet. Another thing is that planes and tanks in museums (or in modern color photos) have been touched up for display so I figure that they don't really answer what finish they had originally. Does anybody have knowledge on this topic?

    I've found this Tamiya model very annoying and with a lot of useless and unnecessary parts. I gave up after a few days, in the final stage of assembly about 85% was completed engine bay is hopeless, and most of the parts were never used there. And I am a very patient person ; ) So it is for a very experienced person model and with lots of time...

    The pigment powder comes out so well on the engine. I usually drybrush silver onto my models to add a metallic look. I hand painted a Warthog jet earlier this year (Never hand painting a large model ever again after that) and I cheated the cockpit by basing it in a matte black then drybrushing silver over it to bring out all the details, came out really nice for just a quick and easy shortcut.

    although the engine / cowling mechanism surely is a step-up it seems that the surface detail is a bit lacking compared to eduards' new 109g-6? perhaps it's youtube's compression and 720p but I can't see any of the rivets on the wings just some fairly basic panel lining.

    Beautiful and quite awesome, both the kit and the build. The only thing I think needs to be adressed is this: An aircraft, especially of this late type, wouldn't have time to get that dirty (as little as it was, props for that, Andy) or even faded/chipped, since it a) would get destroyed within days from getting deployed, b) stay on the ground because of lack of fuel, or c) maintenance would get that - dirt is a major no-no for aircraft, and cleaning the planes are a major factor.
    As much as I like weathering my models, I think there needs to be more thought put into weathering models, considering a whole range of factors, like length of deployment, where in the world the deployment occurred,, time of year, weather, maintenance abilities and so on and so on. I don't think models should be weathered as a standard, simply put, because vehicles are at one time rolling out of the factory brand new, without scratches or dirt.

    Great build, Andy. Regarding the panel line wash - you might find it easier to control how much you remove if you wait until it's dry to the touch. You can use a paper towel moistened ever so slightly with thinner to remove it then, and the wash left in the recesses will look much cleaner.
