The Ridgeline is by far the best pickup on the market. It's the Goldilocks of trucks... Not too big, not too small but sized to do what 95% of all truck owners need. It hauls 4x8 sheets of building material flat in the bed. And let's be honest, nobody takes a $50k new truck off road. That is reserved for owner 2 or 3.
My wife has a 2019 Ridgeline. 49,000 miles it has been pretty dependable. Couple recalls on hood and bed door latches and two bigger ones on fuel pump. One time fan didn’t turn off when she got home, had to disconnect fuse and replace next day. Otherwise good and solid. It has the six speed transmission. I recommend this vehicle.
I have a 2022 RTL-E black edition with HPD package. The most utilitarian vehicle I've ever owned. I miss my Tundra at times but the ridgeline does everything I need it to do with ease. Light off-roading, camping, hauling mountain bikes to the trailhead, and truck stuff for chores and work. Best vehicle I have ever owned.
We own one for our Farm family hauling , daily driving, and light farm towing. No, I can't pull a 30- foot loaded down gooseneck cattle trailer with it, but thetvis what my full-size pickup is for. The Honda Ridgeline is the most comfortable (front and rear), best driving, highly reliable, and most utilitarian pickup currently on the market. Practicality and comfort are there, hands down. I just wish they'd come out with a hybrid with a 7500# tow rating. I'd buy one as soon as I had the financial ability. Great review guys! Now show the folks what it can do offroad. TFL has proven it iut, now it is your turn!
I have a 2010 Ridgeline. I'm ready for an upgrade and needed some insight on the trailsport. This video is exactly what I needed. Thanks guys, I enjoyed the video.
That color is not specific to the Trail Sport. I just purchased an RTL in the same color. Also, the Black Edition and Sport have that color option also.
VTEC just kicked in yo! I'm considering one of these. I think it's a bit of a sleeper in the mid-size section, but it's damn practical and will have good reliability. The styling may be a little bland but it will probably have fewer issues than the competition.
Just picked up a 24 Trailsport - beautiful vehicle! I've had a Frontier Pro4X, and while a very capable vehicle, the Ridgeline interior is much more comfortable and it's a much more refined drive than the Frontier. I don't care about the ground clearance (on the RL) as I don't go anywhere to need it, but this truck is still plenty capable of hauling any deer, kayak, load of mulch or firewood that I'll need to haul. The bed is spacious and that storage well is a stroke of genius. Acceleration isn't as snappy as a turbo, but it's still good and plenty for me. Very nice vehicle.
1) ZF 9 speed 2) V6 with more reliability now than Toyota 3) mostly made in US parts not Mexico like Tacoma 4) reasonable price with 2% interest on a lease 5) fits in garage 6) interior room like a full size tundra
Call it a car, or truck or something in between... it still functions like how most "truck" owners actually use their truck. If you can get over the ego of most large truck owners, it will do the job that most "truck" owners perform. It tows our boat just fine, and rides well. I don't offroad, so not a problem. Good job Honda!
The tailgate actually does power lock and unlock, it comes disabled from the factory. You have to go into the vehicle settings on the infotainment screen to enable it.
Nice video. I have a 2019 Ranger, been looking at the RIdgeline Black Edition. It will be nice to have some reliability for once. I've been following the Canyon/Colorado and Tacoma groups as I was thinking of buying a Canyon or a Tacoma. Tacoma is out, Toyota trucks are having too many issues. GM has never been great but I was really surprised at the number of issues with the Canyon/Colorado twins. This turns me toward the Honda Ridgeline, they seem to be the only midsize truck with decent reliability these days.
Nice review, just out of curiosity, why do most reviews of this vehicle make a big deal of the tires? Couldn't you just get the Sport version and when time came, put the General Grabber tires on there?
I opted for the 2024 Pilot Trailsport and I owned a pickup for many years. It was a personal choice but a tough decision to make going to a 3 row SUV vs Pickup. No regrets so far. If the new 2024 Ridgeline had the same options including engine, transmission, Ivtm4 system, skid plates, all terrain tires and lift as the 2024 Pilot I think the Ridgeline would be sitting in my driveway instead. I really hope the Ridgeline Trailsport would do a refresh incorporating the 2023 Pilot Trailsport options. Both are great vehicles and great job Honda. Thanks for the review!
Lol the ivtm4 tq vectoring diff is on all awd v6 Honda vehicles, trail sport is just different tire and a small oil pan skid. The bed panel is not one piece with the cab either 🙄 that gasket is there because those pieces are separate. Honda did this to make repairs easier and cheaper.
...maybe. But when looking in the used market, it's an easy choice for anyone wanting an on road personal use light duty pickup for about 10k less than a comparably equipt Ford, GM, or Chevy.
I would like to know how different the Ridgeline Trailsport drives vs. the Passport Trailsport. Are they tuned suspension-wise differently say to handle the towing in the Ridgeline (firmer than Passport)?
Nice truck, my dad had two 2nd gens, my buddies had some of the 1st gens.. I liked the quirkiness of the first gen... I wonder what a quirky 2nd gen would have looked like.
Super helpful vid. Thank you. For those of us who do offroad and are looking for a "cruck," would be helpful if Honda would give this rig about two more inches of clearance.
Considering the quality issues with the 4th Gen Taco, the poor reliability of the GMs, Fords and Rams, it’s coming down to a Frontier or Ridgeline for me
The payload. This is something zero reviews mention. The frame construction is high steel braced. Technically a complex body on frame revised to be independent. The Maverick and Hyundai products are tiny. Just look at reviewers who happen to be big guys. They are not stuffed into the front. They are not shoulder to shoulder as with the non Honda product. The V-Tech J-35 will also improve with mileage. Faster and more responsive.
@@ryanb8736 But the “Trailsport” should come lifted some from the factory. Subaru does it with their Wilderness models 🙄I don’t want aftermarket lift parts you don’t even know if installed correctly. 😑
i have had 2 and liked them better than my GMC AtX and a Ford f150 limited, Its all the truck the majority needs, most people dont even leave the pavement. If you dont like comfort, get a Tacoma, horrible ride
@11:15 "...Honda doesn't try that hard, because they don't have to because their market will by it no matter what." I share the sentiment 100%, I wish Honda actually pushed this truck a bit more. Its a great truck but its still being neglected by Honda!
The good comes with the bad: 1. The engine still uses a timing belt. 2. For whatever reason, Honda has struggled to couple a reliable transmission with their 2 gen. V6s; first was the 6DCAT which had the reputation for failure before 60k; then, the ZF 9DCAT which had erratic, but more reliable performance. In either scenario, Honda will not warranty a broken transmission until total failure… this can take months. I know this from personal experience, and that was probably the most disappointing aspect of owning this vehicle. 3. Transmission MUST be serviced (drain/flush/fill) every 30k miles. This is a $800.00- $900.00 service. 4. Consequently, towing anything more than a pair of ski-doos is ill-advised. 5. The hood, even with the insulation, is not heavy. As a matter of fact, if you drive this thing through Nevada at 90 mph in light crosswinds, that hood will flutter like crazy. 6. You’ll never get a heavy-duty bed-cover to work with this thing, except the OEM cover, which isn’t very good. The major reason is there isn’t enough of a gap between the cab and the bed itself. The other reason is that the bed-cover actuators usually interfere with opening the ‘trunk’. 7. VCM, I dunno, I don’t think it’s a good idea. Hipsters would never buy something like this; they’ll buy a Subaru Forester Wilderness or Ascent with a cargo trailer… Go to the PNW and you’ll see what I mean. This was a great review of the RLs more positive features, and I hope things continue to improve for this pickup. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for your ownership perspective. We appreciate you sharing that. The transmission aspect is frustrating (we have a 6 speed pilot in the family) and we hope that the 9 speed can be formidable over time. Thanks for watching and contributing!
I thought the same thing.. but I purchased a Ridgeline 3 weeks ago and I've surprisingly gotten used to it pretty easily and it doesn't bother me like I thought it would.
I found no problems with it during my ownership. I appreciated the safety feature that if you open the door and seatbelt is unbuckled l, the transmission will automatically set to P. You can turn the engine off without having to set to P.
It’s ugly. It’s a ute not a truck. I’d never buy one because they took out the flying buttress which was essential to towing performance per Honda engineers themselves to make it look more like a truck then they stuck on a car front end to waste all that effort and sacrifice. I’d love to have one because it’s the smart choice but they screwed up gen 2 aesthetically and structurally. Here’s hoping there’s a gen 3 and it looks more like the 1 but is a hybrid.
I don't think people care. Call it what you want. Ridgeline is pretty good. That's why more trucks are being manufactured without the traditional body-on-frame. It's a better daily truck.
@JamiefromHali Not going to argue your truck supremacy, time will do that. Pickup designs are modern now. Look at the new EVs. Unibody/UTE format allows pickups to fully utilize the total length (think gear tunnel).
@JamiefromHali Daily meaning your primary driving. Im 100% on the streets/pavement. Unibody gives you a smoother ride--Why wouldn't you want that?? Unless you're off-roading and towing every day, then yes, body-on-frame would suit those driving conditions. Just being real.
@@JamiefromHalibody on frame is only better for heavy work or off-road, which isn’t the point of a ridgeline. Unibody makes for a much better ride and safer vehicle
The Ridgeline is cool but it’s not a truck. This vehicle does not offer a 4x4 transfer case, no solid rear axle, not a body on frame design, no front or rear lockers. To real world consumers that are considering this vehicle, they are comparing this to the Maverick or Santa Fe. Not a real truck
I just traded my Silverado for a Ridgeline. I can assure you.. its just as much of a truck as any of the competitors. In fact, its probably a more capable truck than most of its competitors.
I'm running a vintage 4Runner and Land Cruiser. About the most capable off road rigs to ever hit U.S. shores. The Ridgeline is not a replacement for a dedicated offroader or large displacement, on-frame, 4x4 truck. It is, as the creators opine, and many of us agree, an ideal compromise for the vast majority of people in North America, urban and suburban-based, who want a car/truck i.e. "cruck," that can do most of the tasks assigned to it, and do so fairly well.
It is a pickup truck because it has a bed. Not having a full axle is a great thing. Independent rear suspension is what makes it drive and handle great. Full frame trucks bounce around. They also fold up in an accident. The unibody construction is more solid and durable. 4 wheels drive with transfer case is great for Rock crawling. For bead weather on long drives, 4 wheel drive gets hot and you are not supposed to drive over 40. AWD is meant for severe bad weather driving. No overheating like 4 wheel drive. No having to replace transfer cases neither. Ridgeline truck owners are owners that had other brands. It’s the most popular truck people buy coming from full frame trucks. That’s why they love these. They drive comfortable and quiet. Drives through blizzard storms with ease. The AWD system is amazing. I used to make fun of them till I borrowed my friends last year. I was amazed how cool it is and how great it drove.
I traded in my Toyota tundra trd pro for this. This is better ride, better fuel economy, more safety features, better storage, easier to park, almost same payload capacity, better build quality than my tundra, took it same dirt trails when I had my tundra and Ridgeline rides better and does almost 85 percent of truck things my tundra did and it’s 20 cheaper too
This truck has been used on a farm that has a hair over 1k acres, it's been used on another farm with 440, and one with 80. Every farmer I've helped with it or let use it has loved it. These arnt people who watch reviews though. One has a $100k truck and liked it I've taken it on many back country hunting trips and it's done fantastic off road. It's also made possible for me to basically renovate my entire house, and deck. Seems like a truck to me. Also seems like a truck to the farmers who actually use their truck daily to do truck things in conditions that only trucks can handle. I'll take their opinion over the majority of people who rag on it who only go to home Depot and live in a city. And those who only watch reviews on trucks, Vs actually use them. And I mean actually use them. Not the occasional off road trip or the occasional boat haul or the occasional trip to pickup pads from home Depot. I'm a fan of my man van.
@randomstuffwithjoe there are many more mid size trucks that are actual trucks. Nissan frontier especially with the v6 is much more capable than a ridgeline.

Every farmer I've helped with it or let use it has loved it. These arnt people who watch reviews though. One has a $100k truck and liked it
I've taken it on many back country hunting trips and it's done fantastic off road.
My Honda 24 Black Edition 26.8 ml/gal
That’s awesome
It's a car with a bed so no.
It's for people who can't handle a real truck but just like to play pretend.
Yawn...
@@Ccd-c6d its for people who don't need to over compensate for a little wee-wee by getting a full size truck that they will never really use.
@randomstuffwithjoe there are many more mid size trucks that are actual trucks. Nissan frontier especially with the v6 is much more capable than a ridgeline.
That's exactly why we like them.
