When I first saw this it on PBS, I cried. My mom bought me the cd for Christmas. I was 24, im 49 now, and I still cry, I miss her, and mom too.❤God bless anyone who's missing someone and to whoever is reading this in 2024
Yeah gotta love it but im amazed cause didnt know BW could time travel to do his 98 song in 94 - Also if anyone thinks this lead vocal is LIVE....take a look at the complete lack of effort by BW and go listen to the recording - So.....NOT!!! Goof job Jim - end of vid actually says 98 - this is called a lip-sync video perhaps filmed at a real concert. Its the studio vocal. K?
In memory of my DAD. DENNIS HOFF I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. U R GREATLY MISSED, ITS BEEN 21 YRS. ALIVE IN MY HEART BUT HOW I WISH U WERE HERE FOR ME NOW... THE WORLD IS NOT SO MUCH FUN IN THESE TIMES... THE THINGS I WISH ONLY U COULD HELP ME UNDERSTAND.
I am probably one of the few millennials that appreciate Brian or the remaining Beach Boys. Brian really had an underrated album with IMagination when I was 14 in 1997. On the other hand the remaining Beach Boys pulled off a super crazy amazing hit with Kokomo circa 1988/1989. I got to see Carl perform in Tyler Texas a year or 2 before he died! I am in SLO county CA now. I am so blessed! But of course the Beach Boys would be nothing without the genius of Brian Wilson.
I'm with you. I'm finally seeing him Friday. Apparently his voice has improved some but his back is still bad so he has to use a walker. I fought myself against seeing him because I didn't want to see him in a somewhat sad state with The Beach Boys surrounding him but he's just turned 80 and getting more frail. Sadly it looks like no 60th Anniversary Reunion so I am just gonna go. Luckily Al and Blondie will be there too.
I saw Brian and his band (the REAL Beach Boys) perform 6 times and would've loved to hear this. It's such a sad song, but I love it so much. Chicago with Jeffrey Foskett was sooo amazing. Nobody could fill Carl's vocals better than Jeffrey.
Really do love this track. I wondering what Brian is thinking at the start of this song, it is as if he is wondering will the audience like this song then realising "hey yes they do!" He seems to relax and enjoy it. Which is exactly what he should do, he needs to prove nothing, his work is just outstanding. Love how the lyrics are timed the end of one sentence begin another, Brian trying something different, successfully again.
What I love about this "live" in the studio, is it appears to be the original musicians that were on the record. I see Joe Thomas on keyboards, but the drums are spot on to the production - Brian's famous big drum sound with timpanis, and a lot of rolls, the type you see him coaching Hal Blaine on video of what he's trying to achieve back in '65/'66. These are things missing from the Wondermints backing these days. Even the piccolo trumpet is missing from live shows these days.
What are you talking about? The Wondermints are 4 people in Brian's band of 12 people. The timpany is used all night on every gig they ever did. The piccalo trumpet is played every time this song is played live which is almost NEVER! They never play it. The Wondermints played Brian's music EXACTLY PERFECTLY EVERY SHOW FOR 25 YEARS. N
Richard Cerbini I was actually there. Brian sang the lead part live and the backing vocals were taped. I think they may have cleaned up the lead vocal in post-production for the video.

Fantastic song. God bless Brian Wilson. Lovely and amazing human being.
Can't listen to this without shedding a tear. Everytime.
Captures the essence of being left with nothing but memories of one's beloved.
So true ❤
That man can write songs!
Beautiful video, all the Brians😊
This is a classic song.....
The one and only

I so love this son, Brian you amazing xxx
Looked and sounded the best of his career post Landy.
Excellent comment. ❤
true, but shortly after this he gained a massive amount of weight (thankfully slimmed down again in the late 90s)
@@dmer-zy3rb ummm. This WAS the late nineties. 1998 in fact.

Nope. Brian is popular with millenials

You live in another world

But it came out in 1998. N

Génie
Sounds like a mix between Brian's own Love and Mercy and Daryl Hall's Dreamtime.

Is that one singer with long hair Timothy 😊Schmitt from Eagles?

1998
1998 NOT 1994!!!!!
😊hi
1994? or 1998?
1998, ten years after the release of his first solo album "Brian Wilson."
Yah no shit this is 1998
@@MillerGenuineDraft1980 The description says 1994, which is why they asked. No need to be an ass.
Those vocals don't sound live.
Trumpet came in early
Vocal is not live...no way.

Michael Levy ok cool but this video is not a live vocal
No , it probably isn’t.
The vocals are 100% live. Might be slightly double tracked with the studio version though.
this seems enhanced for TV/the home video. Brian always sang live on his concerts!
