I got horribly addicted to this game and finished it in a month along with my full time job. This game is absolutely fantastic. Since finishing P5, I just beat P4 and am now playing Shin Megami Tensei IV... getting more game overs in the last hour than I did in Persona 4 and 5 combined lol
The entire final dungeon felt like something out of a mainline SMT game and it was great. Beating the archjerks faces while running in surreal bleak landscapes pursuing someone who calls themselves a capital G God, boy you get that nostalgia.
I've only played persona 2,3,4,5. I like 5 the best overall, story and gameplay. But character development wise P4G takes the cake. Most likable cast of characters.
I feel the same way, I have this sense that the last bit had the stakes blown out of proportion without buildup and the ending was left kind of without solid footing
JamesEarl Rustles Well no duh I just hope Persona 4 Ruby or whatever it is called is available as both a stand alone game and expansion DLC for original versions of the game because I'd rather buy only the new stuff then a whole new copy of the game if I can
So much this. I think one of the biggest appeals I personally have with the SMT games in their totality is how one can really feel the evolution of the games, where the developers tried to experiment, where they tried to polish, etc. Hell, one could say there is also an evolution on the story and the plot in itself (play all mainline games in order and you can feel how the games present an idea, subvert it in the next game and show you how you are screwed anyway). This is one of the reasons I am on the nutsack minority of believing that one gets the best experience of the SMT franchise by playing the games in order and seeing them evolve before your very eyes.
i liked the dialogue and social links better in 4 but liked the plot better in 3. liked the music better in 4 but liked the art better in 3. i also liked the city you're in in 4 better but enjoyed the velvet room better in 3. i haven't played 5yet as i don't have a system for it but God how i wanna play it
Don't agree with the stealth complaint. I've played through twice now and I haven't run into anything annoying. Good video though! edit: thinking back it was annoying how if you were behind cover, enemies don't walk past you; they sort of just pace back and forth until you attack.
Why a bunch of critics in this comment section. Also I find nitpicking the game a bit bad. In the sense that you can't enjoy the game without having to find the flaws. On some games I can understand but I enjoy them for what it is. Wether it's horrible plot lines that are the obvious or receptive and horrible controls. I love the challenge even if it kills me both by raging and laughing at the flaws.
I respect your belief on how to enjoy a game, but I disagree with your opinion. I've noticed a trend with many enthusiasts including myself don't nitpick and criticize because they were necessarily disappointed with a game or had high expections, its because they enjoyed the game so much they can't help but over analyse what their experience and thoughts on what they played. Its called passion my friend. 🙂
... There are people disappointed with Persona 5? I didn't heard about that, all the people i heard talk about this game love it... Also really a lot of the problem you mention with the stealth, i never had then. So it's good to know... Even through i have put over 200 hours on this game, until i finally felt like, i should stop playing it, before i burn myself on this game...
You can like the game but think it should have been better than what it is. I personally loved Persona 5 on mechanical level (and soundtrack and UI design level) and really appreciated most of what the devs were trying to do with the story, but didn't manage to love it as much as I loved P3, for instance. It has some very off putting writting decisions that would be so easily solved if Atlus was a bit bolder and abandoned or challenged some old tropes that prevented me from truly enjoy the plot and charecters in themselves. So I guess I am one of those who liked the game but were disappointed. It is pretty great, and I appreciate how great it is, specially for a modern JRPG. But I don't really have such a big emotional investment in it.
Eh, the story is relatable if you actually experience the exact or similar shit the characters have gone through in real life. I am probably the exact opposite of you, while I like P3 for its edginess and ending, I do have some nitpicks on the story, mainly the Strega subplot. It has left a vague feeling for me and I do think it was a case of bad scenario choice. Nothing is perfect, friend. Everyone has their own preferences. This might seems stretching it a bit but I think SMTIV:A and P3 shares an equal footing in terms of writing standard.
Wait srsly?...I've been waiting for some Megaten video about the meaning of the world or something like that and what I get is Persona 5 rewiev...Well, i guess it's fine too
SPOILERS They said Goro's body was never found after he suposedly "died." I think it's an obvious set up to have him return for an Arena game or something.
I'm surprised you said that Haru was a unique character and not the odd one out. She's probably my least favorite Persona character and incredibly boring/bland.
I can totally see how it takes several elements from P2, really one can feel P5 being alignement opposite of P2. I have to say I liked the idea behind the main villain, as it fits so many good spots in MegaTen game at the same time, but the actual execution felt a little bland, particulary the boss battle. It almost feels like the game was designed to end with Not Senator as the top dog, and the necessary godlike enemy was tagged on later sometimes, I just feel like it could have used more punch.
(SPOILERS) While I liked the overall concept, I was disappointed by the main villain. I'm tired of the same "god that wants to end mankind because it's mankind desire to be ended"

The entire final doungon reminded me of Nocturne 0_0 and I apluad Atlus for putting such a thing in a Persona game

The last time that last boss appeared was in Shin Megami Tensei Nine, as a last boss as well.
Last dungeon felt like home to me, I love it.
P5 11/10 needs more pancakes
yo meti boyfriend, what your doing here
But SMT > Persona
I've only played persona 2,3,4,5. I like 5 the best overall, story and gameplay. But character development wise P4G takes the cake. Most likable cast of characters.
I think Persona 5's Ending felt a little rushed but that is my biggest problem about the game
I feel the same way, I have this sense that the last bit had the stakes blown out of proportion without buildup and the ending was left kind of without solid footing
Andres Arancio Serously both nix and Izamami had some build up but that last stretch in 5 comes up out of nowhere
JamesEarl Rustles Well no duh I just hope Persona 4 Ruby or whatever it is called is available as both a stand alone game and expansion DLC for original versions of the game because I'd rather buy only the new stuff then a whole new copy of the game if I can
The One thing I want from the direct is SMT Nocturne remake
We are still waiting. But to be honest I wouldn't mind a full 3D SMT 2 Remake. I want to see my synthetic Jesus boy in 3D
This comment aged well
IT DID AGE WELL LMAO, but we got a remaster not a remake. I’ll still take that tho lol
Perfect game to play after a long day of work.
finally a video , welcome back .
Never clicked on a notif fast, been enjoying this series so far.
Most likely will get a new version like P3fes or P3p or P4golden. That adds more, things. Making the definitive version.
The flashing pancakes was fucking hilarious
Beautiful review! Are you thinking on doing a video on the gameplay evolution of the megami tensei series?
That's actually a great idea, I hope Rtyuiope reads this.

I don't hate the Mementos (the fresh maker lol) theme. Is more chill theme for me, comparing with the other themes.
I'm only ten hours in and it's easily my favorite Persona game and easily one of the best games in the Megaten series as a whole.
P3 is my favorite.
That mementos theme is amazing
i liked the dialogue and social links better in 4 but liked the plot better in 3. liked the music better in 4 but liked the art better in 3. i also liked the city you're in in 4 better but enjoyed the velvet room better in 3. i haven't played 5yet as i don't have a system for it but God how i wanna play it
Can you give us a story overview like you did with all the other Persona games
man gotta get me some pancakes heehee
awesome review!
When’s the royal retrospective?
Delicious pancakes
ConkerTheSquirrel100 a joke that if many haven't played or haven't finish will never get. Totally predicted from the beginning of the game

Still like Persona 4 more but this game was still amazing
Ryan Hatfield lol we love Goro

Worry not, next month's video will be back to the traditional Year of Megaten format
What is the question in the final of the game?
SPOILERS
They said Goro's body was never found after he suposedly "died." I think it's an obvious set up to have him return for an Arena game or something.
EXCUSE ME BUT THERE IS A PERFECT GAME CALLED MINESWEPER
In SMT/Persona is a spin-off of that lol. In minesweeper you sweep mines, in SMT/Persona you sweep gods and demons, lol
Fearless Paladin nice one i was just doing a dumb joke about minesweper
Thanks ;P
Hi ttyyopee
Hey Dyad
Persona 5 retrospective plsss
1:01
95:48 minutes and you are only level 4 thats almost as many hours it took me to beat the game!
I'm surprised you said that Haru was a unique character and not the odd one out. She's probably my least favorite Persona character and incredibly boring/bland.
I'm the only one who didn't like the story?
I wasn't a fan of it either. The concept was great but it was ruined by the main villain imo (also it takes quite a few story elements from Persona 2)
I can totally see how it takes several elements from P2, really one can feel P5 being alignement opposite of P2.
I have to say I liked the idea behind the main villain, as it fits so many good spots in MegaTen game at the same time, but the actual execution felt a little bland, particulary the boss battle. Andres Arancio I agree good concept bad execution. The gameplay was awesome though.
Hannes cha Really, makes sense it did feel bland but I wonder what story elements it bought from P2.
(SPOILERS)
While I liked the overall concept, I was disappointed by the main villain. I'm tired of the same "god that wants to end mankind because it's mankind desire to be ended"
the music is just ok-ish , nothing like Nocturns´s or the Digital Devil Saga´s .... ok fine I dont like jazz and its subgenres that much.
