Hey, I found you totally random (the algorithm says) and I loved this super geeky short, straightforward video. I also love the challenge of finding samples from old tracks. So yeah, you won a new subscriber.
I've heard that samples all over the place as well. I was in the complete opposite seat though, having been familiar with the original sample for Distorted Reality before I started noticing it all over the place. It's like the 'water dripping' loop that was used in the original Quake 1. Once you hear it, it shows up everywhere.
Amazing quick deep dive! Gravity Kills has so many awesome samples that I'd love to hear deconstructed. I swear I've heard the beginning of "If" in a zombie movie soundtrack.
Modern Day Crate Digger!!! You’ve got one hell of an ear and eye for detail. I found your page because of the NIN / Roxy Music video. I was curious as to how you came about that?
i found your channel through algorithm while marathon about nine inch nails keyboard music section! i hope u will make this kind of video again in future! it really a great lesson for noob like me! cheers from indonesia🙏😁
I'm going to throw it out there that the creation of that sample by the sample pack creators was inspired by the intro to Jean Michel Jarre's "Ethnicolor" from 1984
Any idea what's the arabic sounding female singing that can be heard on Rammstein's Sehnsucht (can't remember the track!), something by White Zombie (Blood, Milk and Sky, I think) and Electric Wizard's Come My Fanatics (Phase Inducer)?
Did you ever actually find out the source of the sample after 4 years? It turns out Rammstein used it in 'Sonne'. It was from a copyright-free CD called 'Distorted Realities' and was called 'Crying Out'.
Man, you have the most Quakeshaped beard ive ever seen! All you need is just grow a little tail and you'll get the quake logo on your chin) Nice video tho. Rammstein - Sonne is where i heard this sample
@@nindestruct Lol, those were just two that I came across on my own, not by research. I was sitting there watching Robot Jox and reminiscing about how much the movie meant to me as a kid and that's when I was like, "Hey!" I think I've actually heard the same track played on many other movies from that era. If I was going to research anything, it would be the backwards bass beat from "Closer." I had recorded a little snippet of Trent talking on MTV a long time ago when he said he ripped off Skinny Puppy's "Dig It" for "Down in It" and David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" for the sound he was going for in closer. I'd love to see a video on that! Up for it?
Refreshing that the video gets right to the point and doesn't spend 15 minutes discussing ever nuance of the search.
It's also in Sonne by Rammstein
yeah exactly
THAT'S where I heard it from! I couldn't put my finger on it til I saw your comment. Maybe I've heard it in lots of other things too.
I love how all of them are in the intro. Everyone hit a key and though “awww yeah, instant intro transition imma genius”
I believe this sample was also used in the intro for Kehlani - Gangsta
More of this 🙌. Love hearing about the origins of iconic samples especially in this genre
great tale. Been there! Searching for sound sources is a bear, always great to hear a success story.
I like your style "just the facts, ma'am."
Very direct and to the point, thank you.
Glad RUclips recomended this, a lil bit of culture is never bad received
This sample was also in the Silent Hill 4 soundtrack

Oh nice, I hadn't noticed the Quake loop elsewhere before.
@@nindestruct might not want to listen to it too closely. It's a specific cadence of dripping water. Very hard to not notice once you hear it.
Amazing work mate! And amazing nineties library, a classic! :-)

Thank you so much! So awesome.
This is dope! Love your content and all the NIN videos you upload!
Thanks! Glad you like them!

Rammstein used the same sample!
Im pretty sure that in thw middle of the becoming that i hear heroin being sampled from Lou Reed. The slow guitar part with the heavy breathing.
Love this info!
Nice, increible, no esperaba esto.
Good work! Well done!
zomg... that zip disk into hardware sampler... I'm falling thru time, where's my DAT machine?!
Even the Spyro soundtrack had those !
It's on Zoolook by Jarre as well.
if that’s where it came from, it’s GOTTA be in a silent hill game
I swear this is also the intro to Boom Boom Pow

Rammstein used this sample as well i believe.
I've always kinda wondered about this one myself.
I forgot about bells into machines.
Jean Michel Jarre - "Zoolook" album, "Ethnicolor" track.
Rammstein used this in “sonne”.
As well as tweaker’s Doom 3 theme (1 min and 10 minute mark).
Ps. Didn’t know Rotting Christ used that sample.
im pretty sure i heard it in one of Rammstein songs...
Yes i think it is Sonne
Goddamn what a great video. Like problem. detective. Solution. Done.
This borders to OCD.. but.. Well done :D
There is a newer song that uses this sample, gangsta by kehlani
Any idea what's the arabic sounding female singing that can be heard on Rammstein's Sehnsucht (can't remember the track!), something by White Zombie (Blood, Milk and Sky, I think) and Electric Wizard's Come My Fanatics (Phase Inducer)?
No but that would be interesting to look into!
wow any other youtuber would have made this an 10 minute video lol
Did you ever actually find out the source of the sample after 4 years? It turns out Rammstein used it in 'Sonne'. It was from a copyright-free CD called 'Distorted Realities' and was called 'Crying Out'.
Madonna used it also😂
Is that a Roland Jp8080 behind you? Man I need that.
It is! I've owned it for almost 20 years and it's still one of my favorite and most versatile synths!
@@nindestruct I have the jp8000, but man I do so love the extra bits of the 8080.. PLUS RACKMOUNTABLE.

Do you know the screaming part in Reptile from NIN is from the movie Robot Jox where the robot falls into the crowd?
You mean in The Becoming? Yup!
@@nindestruct Dang it, you're right. How about Mr. Self Destruct and that first George Lucas film?
@@rossmakibbin7403 THX-1138, Yup! I think you and I share a lot of the same info sources, lol

I'll have to check it out.
Whoaa, I thought Steve Vai made it !
he used it on the intro for Oooo, the third song from The Ultra Zone :
ruclips.net/video/6MTuuPjKk9c/видео.html
Still leaves the origin question open.
Hey what about Rammstein sonne
Oh nice, just listened and yup, that's it!
@@nindestruct plus I really enjoyed your NIN videos dude 🤘
@@benbaker-martin3759 Awesome, thanks!
@@nindestruct and also Into The Depths Of Self Discovery by Akira Yamaoka from SH4 OST, as i found out a couple minutes ago thanks to that video!
@@user-jf2rj3zf5v Nice! Thanks for the heads up.
Is it in Kendrick Lamar Element?
It sounds like it's using the same reversed reverb effect.
That sample is just a guitar with reverb and then played back backwards... It has no science.
