Why are a lot of people casually forgetting about Chad(especially here on youtube)? He came up with licks chords and so much more that would literally change the course of the song and even spark the idea of a new song. He is the other genius next to Pharrell. Without Chad there wouldn’t be The Neptunes and vice versa. They literally need each other for the famous Neptunes sound. Best chemistry in producing ever. Listen to Pharrell’s solo stuff, great of course, but not that typical sound structure and feel. Chad is the freaking whizz-kid on keys and guitar and more! 🔥🔥🔥come on people! This album was written before Timberlake was introduced to the project. What became Justified was originally offered to Michael Jackson, according to Pharell MJ turned it down as being too commercial for what he wanted to work with at the time and specifically asked Pharell to ask Justin Timberlake to go solo with this album. Justin also said directly that the reason he finally had the confidence to go solo was when Michael called him directly to tell him that he was ready to go for it and that the Pharell project was the right door for him. They both said if it wasn’t for MJ this may never have happened. Pharrell said on couple of interviews that Michael phoned into the studio during the first set of recording sessions, on two occasions, to ask how Justin was getting on with the vocals and check up on them all. Essentially this album had massive Michael Jackson blessings and influence from conceptualisation right up to structure and completion. It’s like a modern embodiment of a jackson album, that’s why it’s so good. Even the videos had constant salutes to his dance moves, at the time I was 17 I thought it was a piss take copy or a really good tribute act. “He’s ripping off MJ moves and vocal style” I said to people. Little did I know how involved Jackson’s soul was on the project. Now I look at this and smile.

As a hip hop head I resented the cookie cutting machine of pop acts like nsync, bsb, Britney and Christina Aguilera, etc... but when JT teamed up with the neptunes, I knew it would be fire... and it was. Some friends clowned me for liking the "new" justin Timberlake album but time has proven them wrong. Single after single, it became more than a pop record, like pharrell says in the documentary, this album fits multiple genres. Its flat out dope. Justified is still one of my favorite albums.

You can clearly see him, Chad and Justin creating in these clips. Even the productions were more evolved on the final product from what you hear here. People like to slight Justin a lot. Yall really need to check his production and songwring resume outside of what hes done for himself. He's produced for Jamie Foxx, Charlie Wilson, Beyonce, Keri Hilson, T.I., Rihanna, etc.

I was 22 year old in beauty school in LA. We always went to a club called Joseph’s. One night, the day after his single debuted we were in the club and Justin, Pharrell, Travis Barker, Jerry OConnel, Ted from Hey Dude and a bunch of famous people were there. Justin had a dance off with some blonde chick, Pharrell was lit and was dancing on a giant speaker and fell off. Jerry OConnel showed up in a taxi cab, by himself walked in ordered two giant mugs of beer, stood up against the wall, chugged two beers and left. Just to be clear when Pharrell said all but one of the songs for Justified were for MJ , he's obviously referring to the Neptunes produced tracks. That's 6 out of 13 excluding the songs done by Timbaland, Brian McKnight, Scott Storch and The Underdogs. In fact he pointed it out the same year the album came out in an interview to Vibe Magazine. The songs he mentioned were señorita, nothin' else, last night, let's take a ride and take it from here. Rock your body was never entirely confirmed but I guess it checks out now. The only song that was never done for MJ was Like I love You which is the first track they ever recorded for Justified.
