Amazing, I'm just starting to learn to hold my breath, and I didn't know I could go much past that initial strong urge. Will try next time 😅. Maybe 4 minutes is within reach 🎉
Hello and thanks for the video as well as with countless other useful tips! However, I could’t skip posing my question on this …First of all I partially agree on every part but one. If the uncomfortable is subjective and can be used to, as comfortable, then why not hold the breath until blacking out? And to state it better if someone embraces the “uncomfortable” so well how is he able to even know when he really has to breath!? (And actually prevent the black out!?)
well.. advanced freedivers can hold the breath so long that they could eventually blackout. for beginners however, this will not happen. you will never reach low oxygen levels
Thank's Gert for that video. This is exactly how I feal about pain an uncomfortable stuff. IMHO all those things starts where your comfort zone ends, and if you put just a little effort to push this zone a little bit away, every time all gets only better. What I mean is not only holding your breath longer but also things like icebaths or other strange ideas like OCR competition (that worked as a charm for me). Outcom for me = feeling cold - not that cold, being tired - no longer exhaustion seeing world as it is not complaining too much, being calm, happy and greatfull. All those i believe are effects of having zone of comfort as far as possible. All the best for everyone!
Im beginner freediver, max dive 25m, im getting urge to breath on descent, even on like 10m, and after that i start to get contractions, what could be a problem, stress, pressure or? And its like my dive time is always about 1min
My contractions are quite heavy. It’s not really painful, but I feel like the diaphragm is pulling on the spine, which gives me an uncomfortable feeling. I'm not sure what's worse: just feeling pure contractions or alternating between contractions and lactic acid in the legs. Dynamic training is 😵💫
dynamic training can be tough 😬 remember that it is eventually YOU who decides. whether something can e described as "pain", "uncomfortable" or maybe just "part of the process". You decide.
@@gertleroy Thx for your comment Gert. Indeed there will be a point when all of your relaxation techniques comes to an end. I gonna try apnea walks or squats to approach a better tolerance :)
@@markeem321 no need for squads. Just do pool training. don't make things complicated. stock to the basics. unless you like apnea squats, but I doubt you do. 🙏
Another awesome video! Thanks man! Just a quick question about contractions. Is there a number, even approximate, of safe contractions? I know there are people who can go up to a 100 but not asking about max, what is in your opinion a safe but also effective number. Peace!
Hey Gerd...very good explanation... especially the part about pain...somehow we are able to change pain into joy. I am already able to change the pain of feeling cold into joy...just by thinking " no its not cold...it feels great" I try to improve this to the pain of contractions. Greetings from Taichung Taiwan
is there an average time where a person start to feel contraction? because as beginner I am around 2 minutes breathholding and i guess i never feel it..thanks anyway for this gold!
the more trained you are in breath holding the later they will come, and the longer you can hold your breath. As a rule of thumb they start halfway your max breathhold. If you haven't felt then yet either you're not conscious about them or you could hold your breath way longer. Relax your abdominal. muscles and hold your breath longer. Contractions will come.

focus on the sensations and the process. not on the time. 🙏
@@gertleroy Yes, I try not to look at the stopwatch until I'm done 😄. Though I do count my heart beats as a gauge, maybe I should stop counting 🤔🤷♂️

I started one month ago to practice all this. My currrent best time is 3:27, and so far I have never felt contractions.
great. but highly unlikely you don't have contractions.
@@gertleroy I have no idea why, but I haven’t felt them yet. You have a great channel.
@@Fuentesdefinanzas thanks. it is exactly what you say: "I have no idea". For sure you have them, you're just not aware of it.
@@gertleroy then it is like that, but I don’t feel any discomfort or something like that.
@@Fuentesdefinanzas if you don't feel any discomfort, then why do you stop holding your breath?

great addition to this video. Thanks! yes, ice baths definitely help as mental training. In fact I'm gonna have one today 😁. peace 🙏
Dry Vocal cord after breathing exercise.
Any tips or trip to wet vocul cord..
do more breathing through the nose. nose breathing makes moisturizes the air
when you hit your little toe thats pain for sure
learn to get comfortable hitting your little toe 😁
@@gertleroy can u make a vid about it that would be helpful :)

Wonderful! yes cold water baths can also help you in training your mind! cheers 🙏
I really like this mindset-- that pain is subjective, that you decide what is pain. May i ask, are you buddhist?
maybe I am 😁 I can be a lot of things 🙏
Any tips on delaying or minimizing contractions?
you delay contractions by relaxing more. watch my video 5 PSYCHOLOGICAL TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR BREATH HOLD
In my case contractions do not hurt…doesn’t appear to be pain. And it’s certainly something that you can get used to. Absolutely a mind game
a mind game it is. what is pain anyway? 🙏😇
