    I can honestly say that I focused on my increased breathhold time from the initial improvement (which is a big jump), but from the moment I experienced relaxation (as a skill put to practice) I stopped going for max breathholds and have instead focused on improving my ability to relax. This skill has translated over to other aspects of my life already so mahalo for helping me to recognize what's really important and why I should train for freediving.

    From my experience as a beginner, the biggest lesson was learning how to stay calm and relaxed underwater. It takes more time than others, but once you can relax, it is very peaceful and an amazing feeling to be deep underwater. It really is a meditation thing.

    Great advice there buddy, I have a couple mates that are way too far in a rush when I go diving with them, they cannot believe I can go deeper than them and stay down longer than them too. It's not because they cant do the same as me, its because there in such a rush and not relaxing and just enjoying the experience. Even when I explained why there dives are bad, there still in that rush mentality. It worries me as one wants to do scuba now, thinking he can stay down longer ect, but I can see him rushing that too. A recipe for disaster. I have a saying "rush and tear, you get no where"

    Great video ! It caught my attention at the very start. Indeed i could hold my breath for 5min and only like 40s in ocean and even in the pool with DYN. Problem is I was getting an urge for O2 even before contractions started. So I listened to one of your advises “train with apnea in the pool but MOVE!”, also did walking apneas (following your videos) and Apnea squats (any thought on squats?) and worked on my relaxation while kicking the fins. Now I can do DYN 2min with around 80meters. But I still havent check in the Ocean hehe 😱. But at least now I can feel contractions and keep swimming. Thanks for your videos! Great glasses 😜🤓

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  3 года назад +2

      Great! Awesome work 👍👍. Apnea squats aren't necessary. It k ow it looks cool and maybe for that reason it's fun to do but unless you're going for a world record I think there are better ways to train like you're already doing. Wanna train your legs? Do squats. With breathing 😉. Wanna train breathhold under water? Train apnea walks, dynamic, technique, relaxation etc. Cheers ✌️

    Re. tip 5 - correct weighting, you said the weights are to counteract the buoyancy of your wetsuit. Does that mean you don't need weights when freediving/fundiving in boardshorts? And do you reccommend wearing boardshorts if the water temperature is warm enough, or would they just cause unnecessary drag?

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  2 года назад

      I warm waters for fundiving I wear shorts and Lycra to protect from the sun. Wetsuits are usually used for more serious (deep) diving or colder waters. Without a wetsuit depending on your body composition you might still use half a kilo maybe a kilo depends how deep you dive

    Hey buddy! You probably don't remember me, but I was the guy who just started free diving with chronic sinus issues and had a major blow out causing me to bleed for a week. I wanted to say that after watching your videos I have been able to slowly begin to get back into it and last week was able to get down to 20 feet no issues! In 3 weeks we are suppose to go down to the Florida keys and if love to be able to hold my breath longer than, like you mentioned 30 seconds 😂.
    Really quick. You may already have a video, but we do a lot of spring diving here in Florida where the water is 72 and the air temp is in the 90s. We don't have expensive gear, out snorkel mask are only like $30 bucks on Amazon. We have tried the tooth paste and anti fog spray, but dealing with such extreme temperature changes it fogs right back up. Is it just because it's a cheap mask? Do you have any recommendations? Thanks for your time sir and thanks for getting me back on my feet and underwater

      Hey mate, if it is tempered glass Lens you can try burning the plastic film off the lens. This usually stops the fogging up. Plenty of RUclips videos on how to do it. However if it is not tempered glass and just a plastic lens don't burn it.
      I Also have some issues with my sinuses when I am diving. Do you have any tips for helping them out?

    • @CTRadventures
      @CTRadventures Год назад

      @@cameronbeddoe I'm definitely not the guy to ask, I'm a complete noobie, but one thing that I tried, and mind you I have a very bed deviated septum, so bad a covid swab wouldn't fit. I used a nasal spray like afran or flow nase, to open them up. Then I almost exercised them like stretching. I would go down and start equalizing right away but GENTLY pinching my nose and popping my ears every so often. When I felt the pressure, I would hang out there for a second then come back up. I would do this a few times until my sinuses said NO MORE. Last time I tried to push it and I literally ruptured my sinus.
