I’m almost shocked at how cheap that really is. To imagine the amount of work it takes to not only produce those dishes, but to conceptually create them. And then find and curate a team of INDIVIDUALS that can replicate that level of skill seems impossible. Oh yeah, then take into account the price of the ingredients used to make that… cmon

Having never been to a Michelin stared restaurant before, let alone had gastronomy type foods, I used 2.5 years worth of credit card points to take myself and my son there for Leap Day. I figured it was the perfect day to have a once in a lifetime experience. Best (fake) money I have ever spent! The evening was amazing and after getting over myself (being a proud country hick in a fancy city place, it can take a couple minutes to comfortably settle in) I was able to see that it is a relaxed setting that everyone can enjoy, no matter your background or lived experiences. Will I spend $1,000 on a dinner out again? Probably not. Do I regret spending all that $ on an experience? Hell no! As I said, best made up money I have ever spent! I highly recommend saving your own credit cards points for something equally magical. Worth every penny! James, thanks for making such a great video. One to save and watch again on Leap Day to relive the memories!
James, I had a huge smile and some tears watching this. I went for the Kitchen Table back in 2019 and I had the EXACT same mentality prior to dining. The food and service were immaculate, and the memories were well worth the wait and price. Thank you very much for sharing your experience with all of us.

Loved the Gallery experience at Alinea in December 2024. I was lucky to grab two seats for my daughter and myself at the last minute during my visit in Chicago. Yes, it was expensive but was worth every penny I spent. It was a fun evening of tasting the artistic and theatrical presentation of outstanding food. It was definitely a memorable experience.

I live in the UK but back in 2017 I lived in Nova Scotia and while I was there I read "Life, On the Line" by Grant Achatz after finding it in a used book store. Loved reading it for so many reasons, his relationship with his business partner and friend Nick Kokonas, building the restaurant, his philosophies on food and the shock of near fatal illness. Such an astonishing story of passion and overcoming such enormous obstacles. I've followed Grant Achatz ever since reading that book. I, like you, dream of going to this restaurant and really hope to some day. In the mean time so wonderful to see that you got to go to one of the most important restaurants in the world to you and to experience it with your dad. It's one of those things that really is priceless. Great video! (PS. have you been to any restaurants in London, UK?)

I adore your review style and diligently watch all your videos but this has got to be my favorite so far. Alinea has been a bucket list restaurant of mine ever since my visit to The Aviary. Your review has convinced me - Chicago calls me back.
My father means everything in the world to me so I feel the same way - anytime spent with him is precious to me - and I think it is just so special and wonderful that you took your dad with you. I also admire how you make it a priority to get to all of these restaurants you have wanted to try. (PS - I got to the bar exam site when I took the bar exam many years ago at 5am - when the test started at 9am - before the janitors arrived lol - so I definitely understand you showing up 2 hours for your reservation :)
I think I'm going to have to make a trip to Chicago! The food looks amazing, but the dishes that they're served on, and the presentations are out of this world!

My favorite restaurant in America for this specific kind of gastronomy. Eaten there many times. Every time a super-duper fun time with friends. And I did exactly what James suggested - many of my Alinea menus are inexpensively framed and propped up in my kitchen - and every time I look at them, I smile at the memories...
The best part really was your Dad being there too. Was so great to see that. To see him a bit too. Spending time with him as much as you can is SO important. As he gets older. You too! 👍👏

I appreciated the unique aesthetic experience (in some sense evven more than the cuisine itself); yet, and significantly, the view of your visit and genuine jubilation far surpassed my own recollections. You have earned our gratitude and high praise!
Great video James! It's really heartwarming to see how much your dad appreciates your passion for fine dining. When you look back on this video in a couple of years - when your channel grows (which it will), and you are able to dine at 3 star Michelin star restaurants more often, I think you will still be humbled by this type of experience. IMO, not having the means to regularly dine at $1000 dollar restaurants is part of the reason the audience enjoys how you share your passion about food - we'll be watching!

I agree…. It might be something special in the theater of the experience…. But in the end it looks like they payed almost $1000 for maybe 8 oz. Of protein and al lot of hocus pocus….. no wonder these establishments make money…. People are there for “ magical” experiences…. But no real substance. I really don’t get these “ 10 course “ meals when you get a bite or two “ during “ the meal. Make it make sense.

Great video James! It's really heartwarming to see how much your dad appreciates your passion for fine dining. When you look back on this video in a couple of years - when your channel grows (which it will), and you are able to dine at 3 star Michelin star restaurants more often, I think you will still be humbled by this type of experience. IMO, not having the means to regularly dine at $1000 dollar restaurants is part of the reason the audience enjoys how you share your passion about food - we'll be watching!

I agree…. It might be something special in the theater of the experience…. But in the end it looks like they payed almost $1000 for maybe 8 oz. Of protein and al lot of hocus pocus….. no wonder these establishments make money…. People are there for “ magical” experiences…. But no real substance. I really don’t get these “ 10 course “ meals when you get a bite or two “ during “ the meal. Make it make sense.

Long ago, I remember watching a documentary on Grant and this restaurant, it was when molecular cuisine was just taking off. What a special place to go with your dad, and like you said, a memory you won’t forget.
