The year is 20R#. Everyone plays Asuka at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on draw rng. The mashing draw card metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches. Humanity has reached its pinnacle. The low tier peasants are living in poverty. It seems nothing can stop the great leader of 20R#, Masaya "Gobou" Shiratori and his army, the Asuka wizards who live in great shadow monasteries where they levitate while TASing Asuka with one hand, and winning tournaments with the other. The tournament metagame has gotten to this point where everything is played out to theoretical perfection, so tournament goers draw the best cards as fast as they can, and that’s the game.
I didn't fully understand this pasta a few years back. Glad to know I've lost my life in such a short amount of time!
Change the port priority for draw rng and we got a banger
Is this like a smash copypasta. Only smashers talked about port priority right?
Port priority is a Melee thing, yeah
With Asuka not just FGs but gaming has transcended. Intelligence and honing above all else.
-High execution
-Win condition
-Dies in 2 hits
-Nigh Unblockable left/rights
-Limits Mobility
-Super that gives you win condition
-0 risk okizeme
-War crimes
Only difference between him and arakune is he has full bar at round start
We will never be free from Arakune…
No fighting game character can ever compare or even come close to the level of BS that is Arakune. None.
@@cavendish2925i wonder if there really is NOT 1 character who arakune beat(in his curse form of course)

I can confirm that Asuka being as un-interactive as possible is true to the real Yu Gi Oh expirience
Lmfao I was listening to him describe it and all I could think of was so those crazy yugioh tournament videos
Yugioh player be like. Its always my turn!! 😂
The privilege of being a spectator is unreal. This is incredible. They really intentionally released this character like this. Mochi going through the stages of grief on camera. Gobou turning off all non-critical brain functions to be able to play this character at a competitive level. I never would have thought we'd get to see something like this in a modern game, honestly.
I do want to point out that Gobou looked like he was mentally exhausted through the post match interview and award ceremony.
I think that’s just how Gobou always is lmao
He DID just use 2% of his power. 1% was not enough to handle Asuka.
@@ANIMEILLUMINATI Nah, he was legitimately exhausted physically and mentally after that match more than his any other past matches. His play was unreal.
I'm sure everyone who played against him were equally as exhausted
Playing as or against Asuka in tournament has got to be so stressful, hope nothing changes.
It’s fun to watch others suffer.
@@ANIMEILLUMINATISays the #1 Arakune hater.
Only Ragna can save us from this timeline
About time we summon the Amaterasu Unit, again
Is this why Terumi wanted to destroy reality?
But Asuka is technically an alternate possibility of Ragna. Same hair, same VA/seiyu, same dress code, etc. Only this time he lost an eye instead of his arm and put all his skill points into INT instead of STR.
Asuka gives off those early iteration Blazblue character vibes, once he pops his super you're basically in CT Arakune curse
The grounded footsies the Guilty Gear series is known for
I wanna see Asuka vs Nine the phantom for the ultimate shadow wizard money gang fight
nah if there's one character who I'm fine with being top tier it's Asuka. playing him is basically playing the game on hard mode
Plus, it’s That Man, he’s literally the final boss. He deserves to be top.
ArcRevo should release Mocchi's player cam footage from Grand Finals so that psychology students around the world can see the 7 stages of grief happening in real time.
They really nailed the Yugioh aesthetic when designing Asuka's gameplay. Yugioh at its core is a game about setting up unbeatable negate board minefields and playing solitaire with no interaction whatsoever, which is exactly what Asuka does. The caveat of course being, just like in regular Yugioh, that you don't want to misplay or drop combos too much.
I watched it live and was awesome. Even if Asuka is kinda busted there is no way someone not at the top level could make it shine like that. Gobou is by far the best Guilty Gear Strive player in the world right now and has been for a long time already. He can be a beast with any character, but he decided to put the effort on Asuka for now and gave us an incredible final.
Definitely a character that’s only a problem at the highest level.
Definitely a character that’s only a problem at the highest level.
Every time it cuts to face cam and you see Mocchi lookin like he had enough of Gobou Asuka shenanigans lmao.
If they change his ability to auto spells from infinite to say 5 spells. That's already a huge nerf to Asuka. I think people need to get used to fighting Asuka and you can only really get this experience vs Gobou. It's like if someone is fighting Zato for the first time. He will seem broken.
Commenting on every video before Arakune BBCF combo trials, video 73. Oscar sucks to play against.
Asuka the scientist with a big brain moveset and big brain player
So much smart going on
Man as a MAKOTO main in BBCF, hearing Jiyuna say "Everybody sucks when you get in an hit em" is the realest shit he's said on this channel.
If Asuka ends up being top tier, he's one of the few fighting game characters that I know where you need a good APM to compete. Pair that with the situational awareness you need...they deserve it. 😅
You mention what could Nago or Pot do against him but you'd be surprised, characters with big normals can deal with the cubes a lot better since the cubes do lose to normals or even other projectiles, it forces Asuka to either try to use the cubes from different angles with the help of the rods or to forego using the cubes, and instead rely on his non-interactuable spells like the guard break lasers, the ground low or the overhead ball.
People will also start to figure out counterplay to his setups, I for one know that as Pot you can f.S 2H slidehead to punish him trying to setup the 2-wave spell or trying to use the 5-cube barrage for example, Nago can f.S / 2H 236S as well.
Something I noticed from this Arc Revo is that no one was hitting the cubes with normals or specials, everyone was either blocking, jumping or trying to go under, which gave Gobou a lot of leeway in just throwing cubes and setting up. I can bet that for next time, people won't be knowledge checked by the cubes as easily and will start to actually challenge them in neutral.
While I do like to see high level Asuka steamrolling through the competition, I can see that the win condition is way to easy to get. Obviously you should be rewarded for learning such a high execution character but maybe tone down the strength and/or duration of the mana regen and bookmark refresh cards, perhaps also shorten the duration of his card-picking super so its not as easy to just cycle through what he needs to win
I think a lot of people thought he had the potential to be good, but Asuka actually being played this well is pretty new, maybe people somehow find good counterplay, but I think its more likely this character is even stronger a couple months from now if left untouched.
I would still rather watch Asuka steamroll than Happy Chaos steamroll though
"Cube is a 1997 Canadian independent science fiction horror film directed and co-written by Vincenzo Natali.[8] A product of the Canadian Film Centre's First Feature Project,[9] Nicole de Boer, Nicky Guadagni, David Hewlett, Andrew Miller, Julian Richings, Wayne Robson, and Maurice Dean Wint star as individuals trapped in a bizarre and deadly labyrinth of cube-shaped rooms.
A Japanese remake was released in 2023."
I’ve been playing Asuka since his release and I’m so glad he’s finally getting attention
12:30
You say "What's Nago gonna do" but Nago actually has a much better time against Asuka than a lot of characters, because his f.SSS string works on whiff which means he can deal with the zoning and actually punish Asuka for it
DarkNecro the Korean Nago player was actually the only one to take a game off Gobou this tournament iirc
Nerf Nago. Also apparently Gobou played Zato against him?
Glad to see Jiyuna approaching 100k subs.
Now that I have a baby I'll never make it...
@@ANIMEILLUMINATI Nonsense... Maxdood's daughter is already memoriziing frame data.
All jokes aside, congrats and good luck whatever you do.
Asuka has the HIGHEST defense mod in the game while he has mana, a whopping .75 damage modifier. To compare, Potemkin is the runner up with a .94 modifier. If you can break the barrier, yeah, he dies fast, but actually doing that can be quite the task.
Lore accurate matchup
I feel like the main goal of an Asuka player is to cause a seizure in the opponent. Seriously, there is so much stuff in the screen!
10:38 With the shield he has a .75% damage modifier, .19% better than potemkin
I dont think anyone else in the world is on the same league as Gobou Asuka imo. He actually knows how to play defense and neutral, something that these other Asuka players lack. The mana management and spatial awareness is just next level. Obviously, Asuka is a broken character but the fact that only Gobou can play him like that speaks volumes. Compare it to Happy Chaos where pretty much anyone can just pick the guy up and produce results.
As we all know, HC is very easy to play and get carried to celestial and above with
Thats pretty insane at thinking anyone can pick up HC. He may be easier now bc of the changes to Steady but until Asuka came he was the winner of being the hardest character to pick up. Weird ass inputs + cancels combined with no reversal leads to a rough ass beginning until you're really comfortable with the char
@@nekudarkenxRikuxXxda OP is just hating on HC like everyone else who has never touched HC, dont mind him.
@@Longsword.Yeah I get the HC hate like anybody 😂 but fuck learning how to play that char. I spent 20 hours trying to do it and only ended up with my fingers being really fucking strained for a week everytime i flexed them.
I mean, the fact you have what, Tiger Pop, Leffen, Umisho when feeling like it, Poka a 14 YEAR OLD all show results, I think its safe to say, yes, the character is strong and the skill floor is lower than Asuka's. Meanwhile, show me a player that can play Asuka like Gobou, then we'll talk. Never forget Happy Chaos won Evo TWO TIMES, so I dont wanna hear it from any HC main.
What do Asuka mirrors look like? Is it just Scarlet Weather Rhapsody at that point?
They should add grazing dashes at this point.
Pretty one sided most of the time, whoever has the fastest draw in the west and good mana management
Kakeru's JP in comparison is like a baby playing with gumtoys. Astonishing gameplay and nice tips as always.
That's just a SF vs anime fighters thing
sf doesn't really have those busted ass characters, yes jp is playing another game but hes not yugiho while your a normal dude with no cards
JP cowers before Asuka.
Bro most people akready hate guile with a burning passion, i can't imagine someone with this many fireballs in SF and not hearing people bitch the entire time
JP needs some cubes for himself
Yeah, not even surprise when I saw that asuka didn't had any nerfs, I agree that fighting games are supposed to be interactive, but being a true competitors is all about removing the interaction, which is why I would always play with zero, I don't like playing neutral, the neutral plays for me.
I was thinking of getting into Strive and purchasing it this weekend.
Thanks for the informative review... I've now deleted it from my cart.
Buy Melty.
Been on RUclips throughout the day and NOW it shows me a Pillow Cube ad when Asuka is on the screen lol
They're watching.
Damn we sf6 bros out here complaining about jp. This is jp on pure Colombian cocaine
Loved the explanations. Thanks.
So broken he will start being called "That Man"
I KNEW this video was coming, watching ArcRevo top 8 i definitely was thinking about Jiyuna's followup lol
Mad props to Gobou for being able to pilot this character to this level of effectiveness. Auto card import and mana regen cards probably have to be nerfed or even removed, but I don't see this character functioning at top level without them.
13:18 literally any character in strive
Gobou wins EVO 2024, I need it
B-b-but this was supposed to be Sin's season 😢
Sin will be more common in Top 8’s.
I might jinx it but I don't know if they could get crazier with Dlc than what Happy chaos and Asuka are doing
Chaos taught him too well 💀
P I L E B U N K E R🗿🗿🗿🗿
HC : Do not interact with the opponent. That's stupid
Asuka : Yezir
😂
My first thought when they first released Asuka is that this guy's a BlazBlue character. Mechanically kinda like Nine, but somehow crazier, and in practice he's like a Carl/Arakune type 1-player-game character.
Asuka isn't broken, he's just good, even that first clip was legit just 3 grabs lol
7:15 the horribleness of this situation completely depends on Asuka btw. If he was mashing other cubes behind it's very likely that you will get picked up into a full combo
this is the real shadow wizard money gang.
we love casting spells
I mean Gobou is built different. But I’ve been saying Asuka is literally top tier. He just takes a lot more time and skill than any other character. But he’s worse than HC sometimes.
He’s able to surpass HC in power level, however HC is just overall more consistent
if you play him like this he's way worse than hc
I feel it and maybe he gets his win con too easily which would make him busted but people act like you are supposed to be interacting from the inside of your enemy’s win condition
The Super is too strong for sure.
@@ANIMEILLUMINATI no way I got the eyes of the goat on this one !
I think putting auto import and mana regen on the same test case AND having the card reload super work the way it does created a recipe for disaster.
He gains so much meter too, i would be lying if I said it was hard to get that super off after switching test cases. It’s not like you even need hard knock down to do it
I stand by the win con thing though haha kiddos are posting clips going “what am I supposed to do” when they lost way before the clip. But more commenting on the discourse around asuka than specific points you made
Now I can see why Frederick dislikes That Man so much. Props to Mocchi for fighting through that ridiculousness.
It was not the same with Zato? like Gobou was the only one winning with him so there was no point nerfing him. At any rate Gobou needs a nerf
Zato was EVERYWHERE lmao
I find it funny that my opinion changed to the complete opposite, from what was before he released.
Now I think the only way to play Asuka is to switch to deck 3, find the doom spells and fill screen with cubes. All other ways are just suboptimal.
To let opponent breathe, they specifically put limiters of mana and slot management. And then have both spells that kinda remove those limiters in book 3.
The theory craft in the West is to use Deck 3, get your win condition, then swap to Deck 2 more mixups. I wonder if that will come to be.
I think the answer is to make him even more busted but cut his health even more.
this makes me wonder if there could be a wizard fighting game. most 'wizard' games are FPS games in disguise so this could be an interesting take on spellcasting in video games. the general difficulty would definitely need to come down from Asuka-level obviously
2:17 uh oh he’s casting Demonic Tutor to set up his Basalt Monolith/Rings of Brighthearth combo. Infinite cards eh, so it’s more like *Necropotence*
MTG players will win EVO.
Well Asuka is canonically the 2nd powerful character in the series storywise.
Who’s 1st?
@@ANIMEILLUMINATIhappy chaos. Which funnily enough is the top tier of guilty gear strive. Even stronger than asuka.
@@ANIMEILLUMINATI
Happy Chaos but he uses a gun just for shits and gigles.
The thing is, the only person I’ve seen who can make Asuka look this good is Gobou. Even high level celestial Asukas are nowhere near this good. Still rather go against Asuka than HC.
HE'S ASUKA'ING
1:42 mocchi knew that gobou wouldn't cast arpeggio there since mocchi would react with vortex, screamer whiffs of course, gobou wouldn't use the little mana he had on the recast card, and after playing gobou he knows that fucker will not let up for a second so obviously his only choice was teleport. optimal punish is c.s. he knew. or maybe he was mashing vortex.
100% mashing. You are not countering Asuka like that during a match.
I remember this warning
The Curse of Jiyuna
This is hilariously unholy but man...what a fight
Hopefully you will keep an eye out/ facilitate the AKI and Sajam situation. It might be the gateway to expand the west FGC.
They should buff Asuka some more, just to make sure he's lore accurate
Asuka's one of those characters that will potentially start fistfights in the back alleys of the arcades. I'd be frustrated too, fighting this shmup character.
Thank you for saving Magic Users and QA Testers.
This is why Pot of Greed is still banned
To be fair after like 20 years of build up Asuka probably should be the most busted character in the series. Imagine waiting multiple decades to play as That Man only to find out he was trash.
Jubei in BBCF on release was like that.
@@ANIMEILLUMINATI Ya hate to see it
Seeing you cover asuka gameplay makes me laugh everytime
It’s quite the show.
speaking as a straight up casual, Asuka is the type of character that will your off the game.
Only Elphelt can save us from Asuka.
this is why I only play Strive stoned and drunk, ain't no way I can take this game seriously
Floor 9 asuka is not gonna be doing this to you dont worry
Every time this character is on screen, I never know wtf is going on lol.
I can only imagine trying to commentate a Mirror Match.
If they nerf Asuka I hope they just make it so that his card selection super only let's you pick one card or costs 100 meter or you can only use it once per round or something appropriate. I'm a scrub and wanna learn this character and don't want him getting nerfed cus of one top tier player xD
Asuka, the BlazBlue character that took a wrong turn and showed up in Guilty Gear. >_>
He would get smoked in BB.
I don't think they will change anything based on how happy chaos is
I like to think of asuka as an izzet planeswalker (magic the gathering for those unfamiliar) it's just more accurate because if you try to describe him to someone unfamiliar with the character comparing him to yugioh would cause people imagine something a lot like +r testament.
daisuke really wanted some yugioh representation in strive huh
I swear Im not a tierwhore bro I played him since release

The hit box improvements for Asuka were some good buffs.
Somebody get that man his Ph.D and Nobel Prize
If I was in Mocchis situation i would have killed myself on that stage
Don't do it, bro.
This is the one time ive ever rooted for Sol
Asuka is such a good character he beats you by making you uninstall the game, thanks arcsys.
Can't even lab solutions against him if I don't own the dlc
balancing with difficulty is like balancing with low HP.
it kinda works, but not really.
edit: yeah, auto import not having a hard limit is not okay lol
I can't wait for asuka mirror matches!
Good luck to the commentators.
In a world where monarch played strive, i wonder how he'd block all that
Who would have thought that if you have a character with screen control projectiles in a game with not that much mobility would turn out to be good. I'm surprised
Dang, we found the smartest guy in the comments right here
yeah the thing is, he is hard as fuck
Asuka looked at Nine Phantom's homework, threw in his own derivatives, and called it a day
@@Bluzlbee Pretty much. Tp, fairy, electric ball...Imo, they should have gone with better spells instead of the multitude of different cubes but like all his staff spells are pretty cool. At least, you can play more with your mobility in BB and the unique stuff u can do. Idk this kind of mage type character should be about adapting to the right spell at the right scenario. Most likely they gonna change the auto import spell I guess.
Gobou got sent to losers fking around on eddie vs the pot who was also in top 8
I was watching this live and I felt mad for Mocchi. The of control Asuka gets when he sets up is pretty obscene and this was against one of the best Sol Players in the world who is making use of every tool in the Sol Kit(and he has all of them except a teleport). Imagine what any of the less blessed characters have to go through for this match-up.
Sacrifice health for mana is such a strong mecanic, they should nerf or even remove it. And also, make the teleport startup a little bit slower maybe?
i dont even know how i feel about this character XD
Why Asuka… giving Arakune vibes now 💀

This is what people think they're fighting when going against JP 🤡😂
Gobou lost on Zato but immediately switch to Asuka and win it all
