the missile knwos where it is, because it knows where it isnt, in order for the missile to know where it is it must subtract its current position from where it isnt, to arrive at where the missile intends to be- it does this by-
Complex characters being top tier isn’t really that uncommon for this series, I mean just look at Zappa in +R a puppet characters with 4 unique puppets to control.
Imo it's pretty clear from looking at Zappa that he'd be really good. Like just look at what each of his forms can do. Sword let's him pressure you like most offensive characters but from literally full screen, dog controls space incredibly well and enables some really fucked up mix, ghosts also control space really well and can fill the screen, and Roah is essentially intentionally broken and just does everything well, on top of having a full screen super that does like 33% of a person's health in chip damage. On top of this Zappa himself is just insanely fast, and hard to hit because his dash is so low to the ground. He also falls out of a lot of combos cause his hurt box is really weird. He obviously took some time to develop but it's not really a secret that he'd end up top tier in +R.
I'd say Zappa has a different kind of complexity and one that favours fighting games much more. While he has 4 puppets, I'd say it's more simple than that implies. One of them isn't a very consistent part of any given match, two of them operate on a gameplan of keepaway and screen control and each have very limited move-pools to work with. His complexity comes from adapting to the psuedo-random element, developing a fluid gameplan that can work with whatever form you get. Asuka's complexity comes from juggling quite alot of variables and being attentive. You need to manage what move is on what button (If anything is even on the button), how many spells you have left in your case, which spells have already shown up and having the mana to cast these things and keep your shield going. It's the kind of critical thinking that's alot harder to do under the pressure of having to also worry about the usual fighting game stuff. You can keep track of Zappa's variables during a match pretty well, whereas you're attention with Asuka seems to be constantly strained between alot of factors. Also, let's not forget that even Zappa wasn't born a top tier. Back in his original form in og Accent Core, he wasn't really remarkable at all. He was quite bad even. It took them overtuning the hell out of his kit in +R to make him the beast he is now.
To help a little about the pronunciation, the syllables with U are often silent in some examples, like in this case Asuka, it writes like this but is said as As-ka because the U is silent. Something similar also happens with some words like Dragon being said in Katakana, we said Dragon but in Japan, in Katakana, is written and said as Do-ra-gon (ドラゴン).
I think the reason they made Asuka so crazy is because for the first time in like 25 years he’s finally actually playable. He’s one of if not THEE MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTER in this game’s story so. Yeah, I see why they made him so complicated and extra, and I’m all for it personally. For how barebones and boring Strive has been I’m very welcoming of this classic guilty gear over-complication :D
I just kinda wish they made Strive characters in general not so overly simplified, what made +r and xrd fun for me was the amount of dumb shit you could do on characters in those games and Strive characters lost that sauce. @@elaxlol223 this is as a newcomer, but I love the simplicity of certain characters, but can definetly understand more experienced or long term players of the series. Man, this almost feels more like a Blazblue character with how over-loaded he is with unique mechanics. He does look cool and I've said for a while that Strive kinda could use a dedicated projectile zoner, although there's also a part of me that thinks they made him a little nutty for being the first character to properly fill that role. Though I'd guess that for all his options and variables, there'll probably be like one test case and a fistful of options within it that'll just be the one people will default to for being reliable and consistent. We'll have to see though.
This looks like the most unplayable, playable boss character You play through the Arcade or Story mode learning the game just to end playing a shoot em up with this guy on the other side of the screen.
I feel like this is one of those characters that just isn't actually complex. I bet most of the time it's gunna just be spamming out whatever spell and watching for your DP or teleport.
I don't really play Smash Ultimate but this is more or less what I've heard Shulk described as. Speculative high tier with design/coding quirks make his 5 stances possible to access more freely than intended; broken on paper but very hard to exploit all his strengths and has little tournament representation. But regardless of whether Shulk fits this description or not, even if you DID have a character whose only weakness was their complexity, I'm not sure we'd be able to tell that apart from a genuine, intrinsic character weakness. Basically, if a character has a weakness that can be covered over with skill, but no one has that skill level, I think we'd just believe that weakness to be a weakness of the character rather than a deficit of skill up until the point that some player manages to reach that unprecedented skill level.
They mixed a mario party mini game and a deck building resource tcg into one character. What absolute madlads. Were they adding mechanics till the release date forced them to ship it?

W
I just kinda wish they made Strive characters in general not so overly simplified, what made +r and xrd fun for me was the amount of dumb shit you could do on characters in those games and Strive characters lost that sauce. I didn't play Strive in a long ass time but honestly I'm down to try out Asuka
@@elaxlol223 this is as a newcomer, but I love the simplicity of certain characters, but can definetly understand more experienced or long term players of the series.
But now that I’m hooked into the game, I don’t think I’ll quit even if they make every character have more complexity in a later season
@@pian-0g445 yep that happens to everyone that plays a fighting game for a certain period of time. Start off as a baby then come out as a man then they start easing your way into the more complex stuff cuz nothing more satisfying than thinking your something is too hard or complicated then you end up figuring it out.
they talked about adding mechanics for existing characters in season 3 too, and the last patch gave some much-needed sauce to a few chars whose lips were getting chapped. seems like theyre taking it in a good direction design-wise
This reminds me of Invoker from Dota 2, one of my favorite heroes in that game. It's like having a rabid key combo mini game in the regular meta.
10:15 Peacock zooming like Brian was personnally calling her out :')
This character not playing a fighting game, bro playing a gacha game, DnD, Clash Royale, and Yu-gi-oh at the same time.
Its like a Dungeon and dragin mage.
You need to bookmark your spell then use mana to cast it
So it's like UMvC3 Phoenix Wright if you needed a doctorate to use it.
Me: "Man, coming from Strive, JP looks a bit complicated, wonder if I can play him"
ArcSys:
man i cannot wait to squint on his spells to see what the hell im about to get hit by.
the "simply look at the screen" meme is about to reach a whole new level
The awareness you will need to watch your opponent and also see which spells are available and what slot they are equipped in... Didn't even think about that until just now.
*FGC complains that strive isn’t as technical as the old GG games*
Also FGC: “Asuka is too technical yuck”
people dosent know what they want
As we all know, the FGC is one person.
this video aged excellently, like prison hooch
Ah yea, the old “Hold the fuck up im rolling for my Dp so i dont take damage right now”
This is the D/D/D and/or Dota Invoker of fighting games
This dude has a skill ceiling higher than the Empire State Building.
3:10 this statement didn't age well.
Asuka is like playing Blackjack while you're in a saloon fight
this reminds me of old school guilty gear. where they embrace crazy extreme ideas
9:35 This just reminds me of the OG GG aka missing link where instakills did win you the set, But yeah Asuka looks somewhat underpowered, but impressive none the less
They finally added a Guilty Gear character to strive
REAL
Shut up, lol
isnt Asuka more of a BlazBlue character?
@@Modeus. It was a joke that most of Strive is way simpler than past Guilty Gear
@@711_skiddlz ah gotcha, ggs
I just imagine the pitch meeting for this character: "What if we put a MMO character into a fighting game?"
Lmao as a hero main in smash, I was having such a hard time to look for a main in strive, I finally found it!
4:22 is this character from mario party ?
This looks like the most unplayable, playable boss character
You play through the Arcade or Story mode learning the game just to end playing a shoot em up with this guy on the other side of the screen.
I feel like this is one of those characters that just isn't actually complex. I bet most of the time it's gunna just be spamming out whatever spell and watching for your DP or teleport.
So not complex, just bad.
Probably just running away until you find and bookmark the optimal spells.
- Like Phoenix Wright in MvC3
Nothing makes me not want to play strive more than an overly complicated zoner, that I would have to learn to play to lab.
Just hit him once and he dies
There’s gonna be a few select people who will master this character and be able to pull off some insane stuff
Are we about to see Brine go from Wormlord to Wizard?
11:00 😂 Brian sums it up perfectly
name one character in any video game who's only weakness was their complexity that hasn't been extremally overpowered
4:25 i love how brian starts talking about not understanding while the tutorial says "and many more" lmao
As a Yoshimitsu main, I think I found my character lol
"azucar" lmaooo
Interesting to see Brian's reaction to this :-)
They mixed a mario party mini game and a deck building resource tcg into one character.
What absolute madlads. Were they adding mechanics till the release date forced them to ship it?
3:54 "Oops! All sauce!" This guy gets it.
Now i will have to choose between him and zato for the one ill throw my life away to get good
Very small amount of people will learn and master but overall stick with this character but thats parr of what makes learning Asuka fun
"He doesnt have a safe DP? He's gonna get mauled."
*glances at Happy Chaos*
Suuuure...
No joke I had to use this video (and others) to help me understand what the f is going on in the middle of Evo top 6 this year for Strive since I don't really play the game. All I saw was lots and lots of cubes lol.
Gotta love the 8 minute explanation of why they aren’t bringing Slayer back😂
Honestly, just bought this character today, practiced some stuff with him in the training mode, and so far, I’m getting used to how he plays bit by bit, it’s pretty fun
"I have a dp sometimes," is still enough to make Zato and Happy jealous
10:24
You mean.
"What could this be?"
Or
"W-W-What could this be?"
The question is if no-mana Asuka will replace Chipp as the "Will the combo ToD?" dummy.
Considering that Asuka R sharp has Nine's rock (+on block fullscreen fast overhead) and an aerial low I feel like he will be pretty good
GG always have those unique concepts: What if we could play MOBA in a fighting game? Jack o. Billiards? Venom. FPS? Elspeth / Happy chaos. Now we have the CARDGAME CHARACTER.
damn that's a really cool character
I sure hope Arcsys fixes the lobbies so people can play him
Do people forget Zappa was literally a different character for every summon you pulled
It's interesting to come back to this after seeing folks like Zando, Gobou, and other Asuka specialists show the character is _a lot more_ competitively viable than his difficulty level would have you believe. Still gets smoked by Sol players, though 💀
Im glad im not the only one that was like "Huh? what?"
I love how Daisuke goes on interviews to say that he thinks Strive was too hard on new players and wish to ease players better going forward and then releases this nonsense. lmao
I've absolutely no idea which direction he really wants if I'm being honest.
Since the last 3 dlc characters were so dumbed down they choose to pile up a whole seasons worth of gimmicks on him.
Bridget and bedman werent that dumbed down
@@lyutsy888 You're right because Bed played completely different with no Deja-vu
I don’t know if you have any interest to, but you should definitely check out the AWT finals with Gobou vs Mocchi top GGST content. With Asuka and Sol! :)
Brother I played Balrog in sfv, tried Leo and Sol in strive. I kid you not I almost shit my pants trying to get into my mind that Ken in SF6 has two new special moves man what the fuck
I’m dead, they really had the character getting washed in the showcase Lmao
The most honest advertising I've ever seen lmfao
They have to let him lose a round so they can have the theme play out more
He won both matches in the showcase. What are you talking about?
@@drewskidewsk is this to me? If so Typically in trailers across fighting games it only shows the new character doing cool shit and not getting knocked down, yet here like Brian said, you see the character getting bopped
@@Mr_Archer15 mb I realized we were talking about different things. I thought you were talking about that video that gamespot released right after asuka was revealed
There are words spoken in this character breakdown, but even watching it myself, and now through here, I'm not sure they actually *mean* anything when those words are strung together. But on the other hand, I play Cody in SFV and Anji in Strive, I'm pretty sure the room temp has a higher number than my IQ.
Asuka is simply Venom and Faust combined with a book to learn.
Big Invoker vibes, he even has the same robes
This was a very well edited video
Avid GGst player: the entire community is really happy and excited about asukas design direction. Were all clinically ill people who were sick of the monotonous design of characters in strive, and were really craving some wacky insane stuff. Cannot wait for the 25th.
NUKE LISTENER 6:30 SHADOW WIZARD MONEY GANG WE LOVE CASTING SPELLZ
he looks cool not easy for sure got zone reload the cards so much work and rng to master also the blocks you can hit the blocks them but have to guess the high and low still once you get in asuka in trouble in defense like bedman least asuka has a dp kinda of lol whoever going to main him master him goodluck will be fun to watch it reminds of phoenix wright mechanic in umvc3.
I better be able to hit somebody w/ Blue Eyes White Dragon if im learning all this shiii
everyone else playing guilty gear while asuka mains are out here playing yugioh
This aged pretty bad lmao
Why
Cuz asuka turned out to be really strong?
@@sucinistrothat and actually a bunch of people are goated with this character
@@sucinistro Yeah, and the number of players that can play him effectively, while low, is not nearly as low as you'd think. Mostly due to the fact that one of his Test Cases (spell decks) makes for a relatively consistent, very powerful zoning toolkit. It's still definitely the hardest character in the game bar none, though 😅
You could memorize all card and phase and manager all 4 meter or you play sol and spam C.S sounds good
I like how Strive is technically one of the easiest games execution wise, and then Asuka is right there 😂😂
Glad the How It’s Made VA is still finding work
strive devs be trynna make Invoker in their game
When he dont realize the hype of Asuka... "THAT MAN"
I see Brian F is in the “most complicated ‘Guilty Gear’ character” camp
This is like a fucked mix of tsubaki from blazblue and phoenix wright in umvc3. Recharge specials that upgrade the specials and the phoenix wright find evidence
it's tsubaki, nine, and phoenix wright mashed into a catboy with air jordans
This is a master character and beginner character at the same time.
Wait let me pull this card and throw it
Wait let me pull this specific card combination build and do a yugioh chain
No matter he's called As(u)ka or aSUka, I'm gonna call that sign hashtag from now on
I think your glazing because he’s not a braindead rush down like 90% of every other fighting game cast. He looks cracked
uploaded 34 seconds ago... :o
ILY BRINE
Has Brian not learned at ALL from Happy Chaos? The character with a lack of a DP or anything with heavy resource management like with Asuka?
