I decided to reverse"The Cycle" from rainworld: Downpour and now it sounds beautiful... Edit: might Gonna delete this soon so you guys have to Archive/Reupload this
Like sleep, like death. One day, you'll wake up again. We thought we were fighting to escape the cycle, but in truth we were always playing our part in it
We never truly escaped The Great Cycle, the Ancients just left place for new sentient species, that would try to escape The Cycle, repeating the previous ones's mistakes, because there wouldn't be any evidence of previous civilization when it will happen, and so The Cycle repeats, we have no idea how many there were other civilizations before, even the echo in Subterranean says "bones of forgotten civilizationS", the guardians are most certainly the remains of previous civilization, that left behind all their primal needs to become almost immortal entities, only to become the negotiators between the ecosystem and the path to the ascension, simply standing in these temples for thousands, if not millions of years, to patiently await for another soul that wishes to ascend.
I must say: This was fucking genius. [Downpour Spoilers Ahead] Survivor or Monk, the first Campaign you ever play, starts with Pictures of the Past. Saint, the final campaign you ever play, ends with the reverse of Pictures of the Past (and Reclaiming Entropy), Marking not only the ending of one campaign, but also the beginning of another cycle, in an infinite loop, forever tied to this world, regardless of what you do. Regardless of if you ascend 5 Pebbles, Looks to the Moon, Both, or Neither. Regardless of whether you visit the secret Echo in Submerged Superstructure or not, no matter what you do, it will always end the same way. Even Artificer, the manifestation of Karma 1, ends up ascending, the same way everyone else does, even if her ending doesn't line up with how everyone else's looks. What you see at the beginning of Saint is also the ending, and what you see at the ending of saint is also the beginning. It's all marking the ending of one cycle and the entering of another. God I love Saint, Rain World & Rain World Downpour as a whole. It's so fucking good.
@@Kira-np9eb This is honestly something I actually disagree with, there is no real evidence that says that she never ascended (depending on the ending you get in her campaign mind you) but in her Ascension ending, she may slowly Fade(? I don't have a good way of saying it) away, however all of the screens after show the exact same thing that every other slugcat has happen to them when they ascend MINUS saint. As far as we know, Ascension is a binary thing, you either Ascend or become an Echo... Considering how Arti's ascension ending doesn't turn her into one, I think it's safe to say that she does end up ascending... Unless a new expansion proves otherwise.
Goodness I love how they reversed pictures of the past. When you think about it, it goes from start (survivor, monk) to end. (Saint) like a cycle. As the name even suggests. Which makes me personally think, the world will start again, it's in its own cycle. Just like everything else. (Betting my kidneys that someone already commented this.)
So they must've simply done a more melancholic cover of Pictures of the Past first, did some droning to it, and then reversed it for what we actually hear
and so they fall, losing their grip. sinking into the depths, bubbles rising from their stunned figure. the little slugcat is tossed around, swept by the current through the darkness. the void fluid soaks their fluffy green fur.
Gosh, Pictures of the Past is already such a good song, but this version is just...beautiful. Chills-inducing. The lowered key, the slight reverb, the lower tempo. It's just so beautiful, agh.
After everything that’s happened, it’s still the same world, still the same cycle, although it can be hard to recognize. Life goes on, simply for the purpose of living, and you don’t have to understand it, you just have to stop and enjoy its beauty. Those who tried to escape the cycle only found themselves tangled up further into a web, ending up in an unimaginably cruel fate. After all, what offering from the void usurp the gift of life already given?
it makes a lot of sense. cycles in cycles. there is the rain cycle, in the cycle of life and death, in the cycle of ascending and starting a new file, in the cycle of the rain world timeline starting with the ancients, and ending with saint, and cycling around from the nothing to the start.
At the end of Saint's campaign, I started to question whether what I had done really mattered. I knew that I was the triple affirmative, but was I really doing the right thing? Was I really helping all living things ascend, or was I chasing a false solution like Five Pebbles? And then, the final cutscene happens. And Saint wakes up, an echo.

haha, poetic... the cycle is just the beginning ost from survivor/monk... but inverted... part of a cycle? right?
it not only was reversed, but reverse reverberated aswell
I KNEW I THOUGHT I HEARD PICTURES OF THE PAST
I just want to point out that the last slugcat's journey starts in the same region where the first slugcat's journey ends
yes!!!! im not the only one who noticed this parallel! it cycles back around, always
Survivor starts in Sky Islands ? I don't get it
@@justinmeque3192 timeline-wise, spearmaster is the first and their journey ends in sky islands
@@justinmeque3192 genuinely what
my comment is about spearmaster and saint

If I'm going to be completely honest, this slowed version sounds even better than the normal version.
Ive never heard this version before but im kinda of glad they reversed it. Theyre both really fitting
