  • In this video, I talk a bit about my new to me 13" MacBook Pro (Mid-2010) and show you how to replace the HDD to an SSD and change out the ram.
    After making this video, I found out that you need at least a Mid-2012 MacBook Pro to run windows 10. So my example in particular in the video, is not going to be able to run it.

    My 2010 macbook pro 13 still runs like a beast, soon it will be 10 years old 😊 the investment was only fucking 1200€ back in 2011, thats insane, I never regret the buy, since then I only added 4 GBs of RAM, a SSD drive, a new battery and a new trackpad.

    i have the same macbook (as a second mobile device/mac/PC) and i have also upgrade an 500 gb ssd and more RAM. Last time the battery nearly explode and i installed a new battery. The touchpad was also broken with the broken battery and i also installed a new (original) touchpad. I have high sierra and snow leopard on it :-) Now i see how long it makes in the future, it is a good macbook

    Ugh. You bought the same HD I did. After about an hour of work it spontaneously reboots. Only takes a few seconds to reboot but it reboots 4-5 times a day. No bad sectors just spontaneously decides to piss me off. Anywho...good tutorial dude.

    Hey, I'd like to mention that you can replace the Optical Drive with a HDD/SSD by using a Hard Drive Caddy Adapter, if you need more storage, then i'll suggest using this method, if you want to keep the DVD Drive, then i'll suggest buying an external hard drive (I woudn't recommend this option since Macbook Pro's from 2008 to 2011 use USB 2.0 Ports, whilst Macbook Pro 2012 use USB 3.0 Ports). I hope this helps you if you need more storage in your Mid 2010 Macbook Pro.

    I'm watching this on a mid-2010 17" MacBook Pro.
    I paid £1600 for it back in 2010, reduced from £1800 !!
    I've already upgraded it to 8Gb RAM but could do with an SSD update. The CD drive has also packed up since it fell off my sofa many years ago.

    I'm glad I came across your video on this MacBook. I'm an original owner of a mint MacBook Pro (mid 2010) and I wanted to squeeze out an extra few years while I save for a new MacBook. I wanted to upgrade to an SSD, MAX out the Ram and change the battery. Your Video gave me a guideline on what to do because I never open a computer before, but I feel it can't be hard. What was the max ram you put in?, size of SSD and did you changed the battery?? THANKS! :)

    I think the four gigs of ram in that in that Apple MacBook is already an upgrade I think those originally came with two gigs of RAM embarking 2008 2009 you paid out $100 for 4 gigs of RAM or $100 for a bigger hard drive like a 350 gig hard drive Apple makes good computers but every time you want something a little bit extra you're paying for it

      You won’t be able to run another graphics card as this has integrated graphics soldered to the motherboard. 50GB SSD is far too small. Even 128GB is probably pushing it. I think you can max it out to 16GB Of ram if it has the newest firmware that it supports.

      I would not consider getting that today unless it’s just to mess around with. It will be very slow by today’s standards. Maybe wait till the new ARM Macs come out and pick up a late model Intel one for a little less. Or get a 2013 retina MacBook Pro because at the very least those will run Mac OS Big Sur coming out later this year. As for the fate of future releases it’s anyone’s guess if it will still be supported.

      True, I should have. However these days it is widely known the benefit of an ssd vs and hdd, so I did not think to include that. Definitely a consideration for a future video.

    Do I have to put macos from the old HDD to the new SSD prior to putting it in?

    • @marcostechtalk1714
      @marcostechtalk1714  3 года назад

      No I’d just create a boot usb drive with it before pulling it if you don’t have any other Macs around.

    Is this still worth doing now in 2020? What OS can I install after changing the drive?

    • @marcostechtalk1714
      @marcostechtalk1714  4 года назад +2

      Officially is high Sierra. Unofficially you can run Catalina. It runs decent on high Sierra. If you get one for $130 like I did and you don’t have a Mac but want the Mac experience. I’d say it’s still worth it. Or if you need a laptop I’d say it’s WAY better than any pc would be at this price point new. I wouldn’t pay more than probably $150 for one especially since it will probably stock. The ram and the ssd I think cost me another $80.

      I made another video showing how it handled some RUclips. I seemed to run my personal RUclips videos well. Your mileage may vary.

    Can I use windows Ram on this Particular Mac

    • @marcostechtalk1714
      @marcostechtalk1714  9 месяцев назад

      As long as it’s the same type of ram like DDR3-1066 as an example it should work fine.

      You probably could but it probably wouldn’t be a very good experience. Keep in mind 1080p was relatively new even for Mac Pros at the time.

      I think I put one of those crucial MX series in it. Any 2.5” SSD should work though.

      I don’t think so. The cpu is only 2 cores and 2 threads so it’s really going to suffer for anything like that.
