I just purchased one of these based on your recommendation. Got one with the Monte Carlo stock. I don't see any serial numbers on mine. I willl probably do a little trigger work later but am learning to shoot it as is right now. Seems pretty accurate.
I have a 953. I just put a Daisy peep sight on like the one on yours. I am impressed with the accuracy improvement. I can just barely get 50 yards on my property in Tomball. But I can't see that far anymore. I would shoot with you if you were close
I agree the peep sight is surprisingly well made and is accurate! I'm hoping in the future leave Austin area and get a nice piece of land! It would be great to shoot with you as well! Thanks for watching!
CMP offers a booklet explaining how to improve and maintain these rifles. If you slightly ream the hole for the sling swivel you can attach a 1 1/4” swivel allowing to use of the wider loop sling. Enjoy!

Shot tons of matches with one in high school. Ended up going distinguished and p100 in high power. The 853 was the rifle that started it for me!!
