Dusty Hill plays bass, Frank Beard (with no beard) is the drummer, and Billy Gibbons is lead guitar and singer. The original lineup has been together for 50 years until Dusty died and now the new bass player is Elwood Francis who had been Dusty’s tech guy.
My first concert was ZZ Top. $8 Ticket/$12 Concert T-shirt Before the "Eliminator" album. RIP Dusty.😇 The beards came about when they finished a tour and took a couple months off, and Billy and Dusty decided to keep them. Amazingly, that was the beginning of their real rise to fame.
ZZ TOP are fantastic! Dusty is the one playing bass. A razor company once offered them 10 million dollars to shave for a commercial. They turned them down
ZZ Top is one of my favorite bands and their sounds are always mind blowing. My favorite songs from them are “Cheap Sunglasses”, “La Grange”, and “Sharp-dressed Man”. All are worth a listen.
One of my favorite music moments is Dusty Hill's vocal contribution to Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers. Love the song and Dusty's "and hell raisers," 50 years later it still gives me the same feeling. One of my favorite bands ever.
"That Little Old Band From Texas" - Got to see them twice. Two of the best shows I ever saw. How do not like 3 good old American boys who love great music, beautiful women and Hot Rods? Frank Beard on drums, Dusty Hill on bass and Billy Gibbons on lead guitar and vocals. . . . . Rest In Peace Dusty.
Frank beard is who the metronome company come to when they want to check their calibration. Tightest drummer ever. Dusty sadly missed, but Elwood is a real dude, Billy just tells a story with his fretting, legends. Saw them about 1987, and next summer I’m taking my son, got seats in the same section in Wembley Arena. Milton Keynes Bowl about 1993, Brixton Academy about 2002. Complete circle.
The guitarist and lead singer was Billy Gibbons. Dusty Hill was the bass player who moved around the stage the most. Ironically, the drummer, who was the only one who did not have a beard for most of their career (he did have a mustache though), was named Frank Beard.
I first saw ZZ Top back in 1973 in San Marcos, Texas when I was a sophomore in college. They were on their way back from a gig in San Antonio and stopped into Cheatham Street Warehouse on the way back to see Kent Finlay.....it was his place and I was a regular there. My buddy worked behind the bar there. So they came in and played a song or two.....the place went crazy.
I've seen them through all of their different phases. In the early days, I saw them live when they recorded the live tracks of the Album "Fandango" at the Warehouse in New Orleans. That was 1974. I saw them again on tour in 1976. And again in 2000. Always put on a great show and I literally grew from my teenage years till now, listening to their music. They were all 19 years old when they started the Band and started playing live shows. They celebrated their 50 year anniversary in 2020, and they all turned 70 years old together that year. They are all 74 years old now, except for Dusty Hill, the Bass Player who passed away in 2021. His Guitar Road Tech "Elwood" took his place in the band at his request.
All 3 of the members of ZZ Top that you see in this video have been together since 1969, Dusty Hill, the bass guitar player died in 2021. Their guitar tech, Elwood Francis, took his place playing bass.
If you’ve never seen them if you ever watched the TV show,Bones,Billy Gibbons played Angela Montenegro’s father who Hodgins was petrified of. He’s a very cool character. I’ve been a ZZ Top fan since 1969. Great band to see on stage. They were one of the early contributors to MTV videos.
I really enjoyed Billy Gibbon's reoccurring character on Bones. It seems he was essentially just being himself as he played the part of a hipster mysterious rockstar dad. Every ZZ Top fan who hasn't seen Billy on Bones needs to do some binge watching!
I went through High School in the mid 70s in Killeen Texas and this has always been one of my favorite bands. I saw ZZ Top a few times. One of the best times was in Orlando in May 1983. Triumph, Sammy Hagar, Foghat and ZZ Top. Dusty was the Bass player. He and Steve Howe from "Yes" are why I play bass guitar. He died 2 days before their appearance in my city and I had tickets (still do). R.I.P. Dusty 😔
The drummer is Frank Beard.. He is the original drummer.. He was only out of the group for a while to get clean and sober.. But has otherwise been with them since day 1. 2 other songs of theirs you might know are "La Grange" and "Tush"... ZZ Top is classic texas blues- rock at its best. They were also friends with Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Funny, but we always remember our first concert, don't we? I go back even further. My first concert was The Turtles. I was in love with the song Happy Together and had a crush on the lead singer. Then by the time I saw Queen in Montreal, 1981, The Turtles were a distant memory, and Pink Floyd, Queen, and so many other amazing artists and bands had filled my vinyl cabinet. LOL . Of course, ZZ Top was right up there too. Great reaction ladies! I enjoyed that. Thanks for the memories.
My brother had the song, Happy Together, on a 45rpm record. In the 60's we bought a lot of 45's, including Beatles, Stones, Procol Harum, Tom Jones, Paul Revere and the Raiders and The Lovin' Spoonful.
Me too! I even had a couple of those old cases for 45s. I saw Procol Harum in '68. There was some of the best music created back then. However, I am a little biased towards my own generation! lol @@briangriffin5524

Around 1986 I was invited to see ZZ Top at the Forum in Los Angeles. I liked the band because of the few videos on MTV but I didn't really hear much of their other songs. I was totally blown away by the performance these guy gave! I had no idea how talented they are and I'm so glad I got to see them live.
So... Kathy didn't expect Texans to be Sharp Dressed Men? The drummer, Frank Beard - has always been the only one without a long beard. They are so good that I remember the very moment I first heard them! I was working as a dishwasher in a Formosan restaurant for one dollar an hour. The song was LaGrange.
I have been fortunate to have seen “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” Live 4 times. I recorded the last show (Full HD) before Dusty passed away. Always an awesome show. You must see many other tunes from them including “Rough Boy” (official video)…. “Same three guys, same three cords, for five decades” - Billy Gibbons at last show.
Uhm yea they did. They had beards in pics in 1971 go look them up. Course they weren't as long as they eventually got but you had to start somewhere and that's when it started.
Dusty is the bass player. Frank Beard, who had a drug addiction, went into rehab, years ago. Billy said, in their documentary on Netflix, that while Frank was in rehab they never went on tour because they didn't want to replace him. They were ZZ TOP...together. Frank beat his addiction and they're just as good as ever. I went to see them in 2019 during their 50th anniversary tour in Dallas. It was awesome!! Bad Company and Cheap Trick opened up for them.
Yeah, hi. Well, I'm a 53 year old Australian who has liked ZZ Top since 1983 when the Eliminatoe album was released. Billy Gibbons, the lead guitarist and singer, has been in many TV shows and movies (usually as himself but occasionally as a scripted character) and even the whole band was in Back To The Future 3.
My 1st ZZ Top show was also my first concert. Poco opened for em and was very good too. I think it was in 1972 and festival seating was still a thing, we were right up against the stage. Billy didn't have a beard but Dusty did. Oh, and Rusty Young of Poco is a great musician! 🕊💖🎸
When ZZ Top got together around 1970, they did not have beards 😂 but they did have a drummer named Frank Beard who has no beard... Billy Gibbons (guitar & vocals) was teen from Texas in 1968 when his band opened for the legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, who told his peers that this kid (Gibbons) was his favorite guitar player! Sadly, Jimi Hendrix died in 1970 before ZZ Top put out their 1st album 😪 Billy Gibbons wanted to form a rock trio like the Jimi Hendrix Experience... He auditioned local musicians and Frank Beard (drums) joined, followed by Dusty Hill (bass & vocals) in 1970... Them 3 had a unique groove and sound and they remained ZZ Top until bassist Dusty Hill's death in 2021... ZZ Top was signed in 1971 w/ their (then) manager/ producer Bill Ham and dropped their 1st album that year... The band toured the US without a break and by 1973, their 3rd album ('Tres hombres') had a hit single on radio - 'La grange' ... 4th album 'Fandango' in 1975 yielded the hit 'Tush' sung by bassist Dusty Hill... and their 1976 album 'Tejas' went gold as well. Unfortunately, drummer Frank Beard was battling drug addictions in the 70's and by 1977, he checked into rehab... Gibbons and Hill decided to take a break as well, opting for ZZ Top on hiatus until Frank Beard would return. 2 years later, Frank Beard returned to ZZ Top... In 1979, Gibbons and Hill arrived to work on a new album sporting huge beards (from not shaving for 2 years 😂) while Frank Beard was clean shaven... The band insisted it was pure coincidence. But the 2 guys looked so striking w/ the beards while they rehearsed that they decided to keep that look... It would be the image that defined ZZ Top from that point forward. 'Deguello' was their comeback album in 1979 and ZZ Top was getting even more popular... In 1983, they released the album 'Eliminator' w/ more synthesizers and beats (Billy Gibbons was a huge fan of UK pop band Depeche Mode) w/ Gibbons' vintage car ('The Eliminator') on the cover - with MTV airing their music videos, the album sold over 10 million copies and made them a global sensation in the 80's. They followed it up w/ the 'Afterburner' album in 1985 which sold 5 million copies in the US... Their 1990 album 'Recycler' sold platinum, but ZZ Top's albums in the 90's sold considerably less. After 2003, ZZ Top decided to be a 'legacy' band and toured extensively on their catalog of music... Their last album 'La futura' was released in 2012... A documentary movie about their career was released in 2019 - "ZZ Top: That lil' ol band from Texas". They recently announced new music would be coming soon which late bassist Dusty Hill had contributed to.
I saw ZZ Top many times in concert. They do a minimal stage show but make up for it with talent. And "sharp dressed man" - one of y'all's comments - is actually one of their songs.
Lead guitarist and singer , Billy Gibbons is a car guy . The music video that was playing on the screen n the background featured his red'33 Ford coupe " the Eliminator " .
Another great reaction to an iconic band. They've been around for over 50 years, and are one of the longest running bands. They started around 1970. Billy Gibbons the guitarist was in a group called The Moving Sidewalks around 1969, and Jimi Hendrix was having them tour with him . Jimi Hendrix mentored Gibbons .
Back in 2023 I saw ZZ top & Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert here in Wheatland California near Sacramento. They are two of my favorite southern rock bands. Take care y'all
The members of ZZ was the same from first day til Dusty Hill passed away fairly recently. He was the bass player and secondary lead singer. He sang lead vocals or co-lead vocals on a number of their songs. The drummer, Frank Beard often sang back up, but sang lead vocals on their classic song “LaGrange”. These men were absolute masters of studio production and equal masters of live performances. Don’t let lil Lulu read this comment….im glad she didn’t pick up on the (ever-present) hidden naughty lyrics…like in this one. “If I blow my top, will you let it go to your head?!?”! Haha! Yeah! Also!….big momma!…I’ll never forget being a teen in the late 80s/early 90s being in line in early mornings to get half-decent seats for shows! LOL! Bless ya’ll! More ZZ Top! (Also, I noticed the microphone is still clipping, cutting out what you ladies are saying! Gotta invest in a new and better mic and some acoustic foam for the room, etc.) I say it outta love, understand! 🙂
Billy Gibbons Guitar, Dusty Hill Base, Frank Beard Drums. Both Billy and Dusty sang on different songs. Yes they always looked like that. The running joke was that the one without the Beard was the one named Frank Beard,. They came out of Texas in the early 70's with a heavy Blues rock sound. Billy softened their sound a tad to something with a more pop feel with their Eliminator Album. It included this song as well as Sharp Dressed Man and Legs
I was the lead singer of a band for over 20 years and we used to throw in "give me all your lovin' once in awhile because the crowd loved it but one time we played it and my guitar was completely out of tune but I couldn't hear it from on stage so I'm just banging away on the cords and singing and then couldn't figure out why the crowd looks so perplexed only to learn later how horrible it sound cuz I was in a completely different key than the lead guitarist!😂😂 you guys should do a reaction to Tush and Sharp Dressed Man!😊
"They're adorable!" hahahahahaha I'm totally getting the episode in Supernatural where Dean has gambled his youth away, and a hotel maid says: "You're just like my Grandfather. He hits on everything that moves too, you're adorable." Dean says: "And dangerous!" Maid: "Aww." and pinches his cheek as she continues on. hahahaha
ZZ 🤘🤘 Wow what a first concert!!! That must have blown your mind Donna? Very cool band with many great Iconic 80's classics..Oh the memories of a mis spent youth LOL please do more.... Best wishes from France
ZZ Top was always the same 3 members until Dusty passed away. Lead singer/guitar player is Billy Gibbons, and the drummer is Frank Beard. BTW,Dusty was on the left,Billy was in the center.
I remember when i was a kid,and my 2 uncles would wave at me to come to the livingroom. Grandpa had just gotten this massive satelitte antenna looking like a huge dish, and it took in channels from all over the world, and this was early early on,while almost noone in the area had any. They were watching MTV,and ZZ Top with one of theyr music videos was on. I came towards the chairs they were sitting in,and both were like: "Arent they cool?!!" And i remember standing there perplexed, with a combination of Kathy and Lulus expression on my face. And i just bursted out: "YES!". I was a supporter from thereon out, before i even knew what a supporter/fan was. It has been an ongoing joke with ZZ Top over several decades, that the only one without a beard in ZZ Top,has the name Frank Beard (That all changed when Frank Beards wife finally let him grow a goatee beard). And Donna is exactly right,Dusty Hill (on the bass guitar, and vocals,he also played the keyboard) Frank Beard (drums and backing vocals) and Billy Gibbons (lead vocals for the most part but Dusty does sing lead on some songs too and guitar) has been the original lineup for several decades, sadly only interupted by Dusty Hill passing not too long ago, forever live his memory. A loose suggestion from me would be either: ZZ Top - TV Dinners (So Kathy can see them as very young) or: ZZ Top - Velcro Fly to see how Dusty is working the keyboard. 😏But all songs of theyrs are golden, even the slower ones are amazing. Rough Boy is a personal favourite of mine, only beaten by my alltime favourite wich is Velcro Fly. You 3 wont be able to sit still with that song. 🤭
I just seen ZZ Top April of 2024 with Lynyrd Skynyrd and I seen them back in the 70s also…. Billy had a sign on the back of his guitar that said “need beer” lol.. the one that died was the base guitar, Dusty….
I saw zz top when they were promoting First Album.. Was just a little stage.. and Billy was so high .. he grabbed my hand pulled me up on the little stage.. passed me a joint .. and we got so high .. Billy moved like a snake.. they were so amazing.. Im taking early 70s
Billy Gibbons is 73 years old. But they looked like this when I was a teen and I'm 65. They are probably the coolest band ever.
Big bad blues 2018
This great musical trio shows just how much a three-piece band can rock.
our greatest bands were 3 piece, or three piece with a singer.....

Thanks for the information.
Saw them in '93 in Milwaukee for Harleys' 90th anniversary. Amazing show. Still recovering...
I saw ZZ Top three times. Love that people are still listening to it today! Enjoy!
I saw ZZ Top many times in concert. They do a minimal stage show but make up for it with talent. And "sharp dressed man" - one of y'all's comments - is actually one of their songs.
Billy played the guitar, Dusty played the bass, and the man without a beard behind the drum kit is Frank Beard. Both Billy and Dusty sang.
🤘🤘Way to Rock it Donna 🤘🤘
I saw ZZ Top in the late 80’s in San Francisco with my wife who didn’t wanna be there. Lol.
Great concert and show by them
Yes, they put on an awesome concert.
Dusty Hill was the Bass player, the Gentleman on the left side of the stage.
They started zz top in 1969 and still playing ❤❤❤
Lead guitarist and singer , Billy Gibbons is a car guy . The music video that was playing on the screen n the background featured his red'33 Ford coupe " the Eliminator " .
Another great reaction to an iconic band. They've been around for over 50 years, and are one of the longest running bands. They started around 1970. Billy Gibbons the guitarist was in a group called The Moving Sidewalks around 1969, and Jimi Hendrix was having them tour with him . Jimi Hendrix mentored Gibbons .
Real legends n the music industry , great band , great musicians
The guitarist occasionally guest starred on the T.V. show Bones about a forensic scientist and a detective.
Back in 2023 I saw ZZ top & Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert here in Wheatland California near Sacramento. They are two of my favorite southern rock bands. Take care y'all
Yep. Used to have to drive 60 miles to Camelot Records in Charlotte to buy tickets.
Gotta invest in a new and better mic and some acoustic foam for the room, etc.)
I say it outta love, understand! 🙂
I always love seeing the younger generation getting into the music of my youth!
Couple of really dressed up old men😂😂 I love it
Love them guitars..Custom-made with the Texas longhorn steer and pure maple wood. That's what ya call giving props to your home state.
The funny thing is that the drummer who is the only one without a beard his last name is "Beard!"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Like how the young one said they looked " sharp ".....gotta watch that video/song!!!
I was the lead singer of a band for over 20 years and we used to throw in "give me all your lovin' once in awhile because the crowd loved it but one time we played it and my guitar was completely out of tune but I couldn't hear it from on stage so I'm just banging away on the cords and singing and then couldn't figure out why the crowd looks so perplexed only to learn later how horrible it sound cuz I was in a completely different key than the lead guitarist!😂😂 you guys should do a reaction to Tush and Sharp Dressed Man!😊
Lead and singer is Billy Gibbons, Bass was Dusty Hill, and drums is Frank Beard (the only one without a long beard)
"They're adorable!" hahahahahaha I'm totally getting the episode in Supernatural where Dean has gambled his youth away, and a hotel maid says: "You're just like my Grandfather. He hits on everything that moves too, you're adorable." Dean says: "And dangerous!" Maid: "Aww." and pinches his cheek as she continues on. hahahaha
Lol
Ditto what everyone has said !
Lynyrd Skynyrd + Van Halen + Duck Dynasty = ZZ Top.
ZZ 🤘🤘 Wow what a first concert!!! That must have blown your mind Donna? Very cool band with many great Iconic 80's classics..Oh the memories of a mis spent youth LOL
please do more....
Best wishes from France
If you’re a Christmas movie fan you might recall this song was played in The Santa Clause (1994) with Tim Allen
a real hit machine!sadly we will never see them in full again.goodbye dusty!..
Realising that Eliminator came out in 1983 and feeling like that wasn't too long ago ... old age has its hands on me now!
Well, my dear mother, you just described how old you are now great man I’ve seen them too in concert some of the best music I’ve ever heard live
Grandma gets it, mother just rock along, and the hamster just never will get it.
ZZ Top was always the same 3 members until Dusty passed away. Lead singer/guitar player is Billy Gibbons, and the drummer is Frank Beard. BTW,Dusty was on the left,Billy was in the center.
I like how the oldest generation started nodding her head immediately. The younger ones took awhile to join in.
I was a supporter from thereon out,before i even knew what a supporter/fan was.
Love the story.
Thank you ladies. That was fun! 🤗
Glad you enjoyed it!
i saw zz top in fort smith arkansas 1972 and they were dressed with cowboy hats and boots and rocked damm good
Dusty was the bass player. Fun fact, the drummer is Frank Beard and for the longest time he was the only one without a beard.
Not to mention that Billy Gibbons has played a father for one of the characters on the TV crime drama show Bones
Two more songs of theirs you need to hear. "La Grange." and "Sharped Dressed Men." To start.
In Lufkin, everyone has either a story about ZZ Top, George Jones, J Frank Wilson, or Don Henley
E. Texas in the house ! Yep The little band from Texas is awesome. R.I.P Dusty Hill.
This band did a cameo in the movie Back to the Future 3. They were the band at the dance.
