You don't need to believe in a god in order to appreciate music when it is done so well. Believe in what ever you want. Leonard Cohen wrote 84 verses of this wonderful song.
Each verse was a separate expression of the word, Hallelujah.
If he had lived it is likely that he would have added more verses.
John Cale took just five verses to perform and record.
Two more verses were added and it is the seven verses that have been "accepted" as being the song the public hears.
Apparently John Cale was astonished when Cohen gave him fifteen pages of verses from which to choose.
I would love to hear more versions made up of some other verses.
Leonard Cohen was a devout Jew and had an Orthodox Jewish burial in Montreal, Canada. I am so pleased this song, as well as many others ,has touched so many people.

Shona is an absolute star. A great actress and fabulous singer. She doesn't need The Voice. However, I agree that she would be a fantastic ambassador (assuming that the song is good enough) for the UK in Eurovision.
