Umineko is the greatest piece of fiction I've ever read and I don't think anything will ever top it tbh. Such an amazing experience. I literally listen to the ost daily lmao.

Hello, new sub here. I've read Umineko many years ago and still consider it the single best piece of media that I've ever seen. By the way there is a big reveal in the manga adaptation, so I always recommend Umineko fans to read the manga after the VN.
I feel like reading ONLY the manga is selling yourself short. As awesome as the illustrations and extra fleshing out of certain things is, I found the VN to be more immersive.
Umineko is such a fascinating work. It's a genuinely interesting post-modern take on the mystery genre, and a soulful read at that. A while ago I wrote multiple drafts for a video script about Umineko, but ultimately had to abandon it. Instead I made a mini-documentary about Visual Novels and their potential as a medium. I specifically made it to try to get more people to see the value in visual novels. If you ever have the time I'd like to know your thoughts on the video, its up on my channel.
If you loved Umineko and its soundtrack, you ought to try "The House in Fata Morgana." It's an amazing read and one of my favorite pieces of fiction (after Umi of course).
I finished Higurashi, then Umineko and then Ciconia Phase 1 a while ago and am now reading Higanbana. But I have to say that Higu and Umi are still my favorites from the 07 universe.
Welllll Ciconia isn’t even on phase 2 yet. Reason was for COVID being too close to the material shown. But nowadays COVID isn’t honestly that important anymore and isn’t nearly as bad as it was when it was first introduced.
And then you have Umineko's single greatest mystery: What are the lyrics to Happy Maria, even? i'm not joking btw i've seen over a hundred takes on the lyrics and they range from "this half makes sense" to "please share whatever you've been smoking." Real talk though Umineko is also likely my favorite work of fiction period if not at least tied for it. Not even counting the soundtrack the themes and struggles of the cast just resonate with me deeply. And while the music is a contender for my favorite soundtrack in anything, other aspects of the audio department are about as good as they get for VNs. The sound effects are iconic and set the atmosphere of nearly every scene perfectly. And that's nothing to say of the amazing voice acting. Umineko is the highest standard for me when it comes to audio as a whole for games with the closest contender for me being the Armored Core Series.
They are obviously "It's Magical Gohda Chef; I'm gonna piss in fire, for magical breeding power." And yeah, I think Umineko is my favourite work of fiction in the manga/anime/vn/etc media, and one of my favourites in general

Umineko was recommended to my friend; I had played the first half through the year.. yes the game is long, yes it makes you think, but god it is worth your damn time. For being a way older game, it just continues to live on. Umineko was a heart-wrenching, wholesome and mind-fuckery game up to its end. It never lost its touch through the whole game and I would honestly do it all again. The ending.. the characters.. everything. Everything is done amazingly. The characters are so fleshed out and all the characters are super important. There is not one character I'd say is not necessary in the story. All of them are. All of them have their own purpose and yet they're so unique and diverse. TL;DR amazing game, definitely will be nostalgic to remember down the road. Play it. I promise, you'll love it.
Always wondered why Umineko stuck with me so much and the music is one of the biggest reasons as to why which is, incredible piece of fiction that everyone should get the chance to experience.
I was writing a script for a Disney haunted mansion movie until I realized it would be better as a visual novel, the universe responded by letting me know it already exists... It's called umineko.
This is something I don't see often talked about but I love how Ryukishi sprinkles historical events to his creations and finds ways to tie them to his stories, in anime we don't see stuff like world war 2 referenced for example or talked about that often which I find refreshing to see in Umineko and Higurashi.
Reading the Umineko Manga was probally the best experience i had with any media ever, by far my favorite fictional story, i missed the amazing soundtrack, but the adaptation is overall pretty good, gonna try to read the VN someday for the completion points in my head
I did the same thing. Read the manga last year and recently binge read Higurashi, Umineko and Ciconia phase 1 VNs. Ngl rereading Umineko made me realise just how layered and complex some of the scenes were but also highlighted it's flaws. Mainly the insanely bloated writing style.
Umineko is certainly one of the best there is in the medium. Other high recommendations I have are: the Muv Luv trilogy, The Fruit of Grisaia, ef A Fairy Tale of the Two, the Utawarerumono trilogy and The House in Fata Morgana. All of these are amazing and fantastic examples of what the medium is truly capable of.
my favorite musical touch of the novel is at the very end, trick ending on the boat. The music dims at the very end, the pair utter one single word together, then the intro music from the beginning absolutely bangs on the scene as credits roll and all these emotions come rushing back, coupled with the biting irony of Ange's fate. in general, that scene has the best, most appropriate music selection of the entire thing. Lie-alaia, then About face and L&D Circulation is such good progression as the events unfold. An unfortunate number of sequences in the story feel like they didn't know what exactly to do with all these earth-shattering tracks at their disposal. The ending of EP5 is the most unfortunate culprit, I think. Both Final Answer and resurrected replayer are squandered back to back in Battler's desperate defeat, then Justice, an amazing track that fits perfectly in its first use, is played like three more times in the same scene, killing its initial slam. Final Answer really should have been the thing blasting on Battler's Gold Truth.
ricordando il passato almost makes you cry, doesn't it? it really conveys all the emotion of the scene even though it's not in a language that most of us speak.
Umineko is a work unlike any other. It is genuinely something anyone should read. Mystery buffs, weebs, western cartoon fans, anyone. I won’t say the writing is perfect, as the ending and other things may not be for everyone. But, this visual novel changes you, man. At first you’ll think the old man Kinzo is crazy for screaming Beatrice’s name so fervently. At the end of this novel, you’ll be doing the exact same thing. Of course, in the middle, you may join him to jest. Because of how long the novel is, you change and develop along with the characters. It’s fascinating. Umineko explores so much, it has near perfect music, designs, characters, mysteries, action, romance, almost everything. Well, I would say the music IS perfect. You can read more of it in the replies, but I doubt any newbie will be actually looking lol
Minor spoiler warning. Nothing too big, I just occasionally suggest some themes that occur. Also, this is super long. Umineko has near perfect characters, designs, mysteries, music, voice acting, everything. It has everything from every genre. Even the music explores so many genres. Slice of life, classical, mystery, horror, fantasy, drama, romance, meta-fiction, and yes, adventure. It may sound like something that would be a mess, but Umineko blends it all together neatly and amazingly. It’s so immersive, you yourself never want to leave. The Steam tags are not joking. The mystery is satisfying, the fantasy is epic, the drama is heart wrenching, the classical bits are well represented in an entertaining way, the slice of life makes you feel like you know these characters, the horror is paralyzing, the romance is sweet, the meta-fiction truly bores deep into you, and it all feels like you’ve just taken the deep plunge to adventure through an abyss of “peak fiction”. An entire paragraph about Umineko’s music! I love it so much. A plethora of work from different composers come together and work, as if they come from the same musical genius. Your immersion is never ever broken with the music, you never think “jeez, this soundtrack really doesn’t fit in..”, you just sink into the atmosphere, rave the FUCK out with the bangers, or cry your heart out. My favorite composer HAS to be Dai. The character designs are just borderline incredible too, I’ll never forget any of them. Some of them are a bit horny, but absurdly horny, and still fit in perfectly with the lolita-goth, gaudy 1984’s style. Their personalities are great as well! Umineko explores so much. Honestly, even after finishing, my mind can still barely comprehend the sheer amount of craziness that happens. You might say I had a.. “death (from stupefaction)”! But seriously, Umineko might’ve explored as much as the conquistadors looking for El Dorado. Romance, financial issues, trauma, identity issues, mystery vs. fantasy, meta-fiction, delusion, abuse, being a classic housewife, sexism, self-hatred to a point of destruction, classic pieces of literature such as “Hansel and Gretel”, Maeterlinck’s “The Blue Bird”, and “Dante’s Inferno”. I wanna get into more, but this is slowly approaching the spoiler territory, so find all those little references yourself. that’s all i have to say!
Glad this got recommended to me. Great video, subscribed! Also I hope you have read the Higurashi visual novel as well. It elevates quite a lot of scenes, jokes and some characters in Umineko. If you haven't or only have seen the Higurashi anime, definitely read that VN as well (the composer dai who made the emotional and piano tracks in Umineko is there as well)! Also do consider the Umineko manga as a reread or just read the Episode 8 manga, its approached in a very different way. By the way my favorite tracks from the Umineko soundtrack are: - Riccordando il passato (full version) - Golden Nocturne (vocal version) - dreamenddischarger - Hope (vocal version) - Far - Birth of new witch (full version) - ACTIVE PAIN - and if it counts, the anime opening
I read higurashi shortly after umineko; it was pretty funny to see how much of umineko actually referenced back to higurashi in easter egg fashion. i didn't love higurashi's soundtrack quite as much as umineko's, but that's not a diss on the producers' earlier work; every masterpiece stands on the shoulders of giants before them.
Ahhh, the music of umineko... how about top 10 of sad and slow melodies and top 10 energetic and fast-paced bangers of umineko? With honorable mentions, of course, cause there's so many of them
Dude, just found your channel and i think it,s great. Anime ost is such an underrated subject in youtube. Also, love umineko, another underrated thing. (Not native english speaker,so forgive if my comments have gramar mistakes)
New Sub. Another fellow Umineko enjoyer spotted. Poggers. Also quality underrated content spotted. Mega Poggers. Also also I agree that Umineko is one of the best things like ever. Peak Fiction am I right boys?
Same here man. I read the manga, but the story basically stands on top of all of the fiction I've consumed. And I've read a lot of good shit tbh. For ideas of content production, can you try perhaps reactions to visual novels you haven't read before? Walkthroughs in other words. It doesn't require as much effort in the editing department (and certainly not as much for scripting) . And when you're done you can quickly give thoughts on them. You can also easily slit them into a schedule. Rose Matters on youtube is basically an example of what I'm talking about. She's doing a first-time walkthrough of Umineko right now, actually. Every friday she plays the VN for about 2 hours (or rather she releases a video in which she plays it for two hours, it's possible that it's prerecorded and edited). You can basically convert your experiences into content. Its also fairly popular, and you can even stream some playthroughs (CloudyCrow does this). Just some thoughts. Cheers.
definitely an idea i've considered, but I've found that I tend to read pretty quickly, and after some thought, I don't think I'd have the patience to slow down if i'm really invested in the VN, at least if it's a really long one like Umineko. Maybe for the shorter ones, it's an option. thanks for the comment, much appreciated!
Its been like a couple of years now since the first time I discovered Umineko in 2015, I was like in 1st year college, but I still keep coming back to Umineko. I’ve read a lot of VNs now but its still in my number one spot.
Recently the scrambled eggs arc in the quintessential quintuplets has convinced me to finally read the umineko VNs after 1 decade since I watched the anime even if I already spoiled myself by reading the fandom last year. Lol
i know this va from it's bass ass ost that some person put in there ygo deck video lol and it was EPIC also the lore is vary vary deep, from what i heard and seen a little bit
I feel like being a different person after reading Umineko and I see the world different then before. But I feel lonely sometimes, because I feel different then poeple that haven´t read Umineko and I wish to meet someday the person that connects with me and seems like that person has to have read Umineko before ^^´
Would like to hear more about the music. I like it but there's no interviews or anything with the composers... And the answer to your bonus question: "worldenddominator"
From my humble opinion, do what you think is right for your channel. I'm here since I find your content very interesting. Take your time for the next video. Happy holidays!!
It's just a shame they never made an anime adaptation of Umineko. Would be great if they did that. A real shame. Yup. No such adaptation exists. Fight me
Currently reading Twilight of the Golden Witch. Somehow I only found Umineko and Higurashi last year. (Not reading slow, I just took a break between 7 and 8. I read all of 3-6 in the span of 2 weeks about a month ago now)
It's not hard to find, because you can't really play it on the phone. There are a few options: - Get a cloud computer - If there is any, find a emulator for it - Get a PC
Hey, i've read some visual novels before (4 or 5) and i always thought about reading Umineko. However, someone told me before that Umineko can't be fully enjoyed without reading the Higurashi Series, and last time i looked higurashi featured 8 games (wich i think is too much wallet aside) and it discouraged me to start actually reading any. So, do you recommend me reading Umineko as is ? P.S: Nice video as always . And don't think a mere upload frequency is enough to make us ditch you !
Not really, you don't need to read Higurashi to fully enjoy Umineko, the most you're going to miss from it is some references from Higurashi in Umineko, and like a few characthers that appear in both stories (Though you should see them more as references itself and not the same characters.) Though I do recommend you to read Higurashi too, personally I prefer Umineko, but Higurashi is still an amazing story.
@@sieg-sandrodeshannon3035 I see. Then i think i'll start Umineko right away and leave Higurashi for a later date. Thank you very much for your reply ^^
As someone has already mentioned, it's not wholly necessary by any means. In fact, I myself read Umineko before Higurashi. There's definitely references to Higurashi, but nothing crucial to the story. The stories themselves are quite distinct and different, imo.
I finish the anime and I don't know what to do :( because I can't understand should I play the game? Where is the light novel? I can't find this, also I find the manga in amazon which is pretty expensive , but I want to know all of the umineko world I love it so much, also the manga have 50 volumes where can I buy it in english :(
Yeah Umineko is the best. Especially when the organ or techno music starts playing during logic battles. However there were parts I simply hated. The number of times when Shannon and Kannon mention that they are furniture. I get it but it was like Ohh I'm Kannon/ Shannon I cannot use the toilet because I' m a furniture . Don't worry one day you'll be able to pee like a normal human being. The story of Ange in Episode 3 it was soo boring . I know she's sad because she has no family left but I was kinda sick of watching her (not pathetic) but boring life. The alternate story of Beatrice in episode 7 has too much Shannon in it! Boooring!
One thing is fascinating that no matter what butler don't want to accept the fact that witch exist . If Jesus apears infront of him then he will say that he is a man or he is a hallucinations
@@krishnasaikia6132 It looks like you are on the start of Umineko and I don't want to spoil you anything. But that's how magic works in Umineko. See with magic you can only do things possible for you to be done. And if the result matches reality you can do great miracles . However if someone uncovers the truth how it was done by means of reality, all magic disappears. Denying a witch existence is not that stupid but actually a way to kill her
man you really trying to pitch visual novels to normies by suggesting they start from the one that's like three bibles long as a first read? show some mercy and recommend katawa shoujo like the rest of us.
The music is genius because it puts the right energy into the right scenes. It can be sad and somber, deadly and horrific, active and blood pumping. The humor is even delivered properly with the music. There were chase scenes that should be flat/boring in this story format, but instead were griping and engaging. I forgot that all this game is in its format is really just pictures and words, with dialogue, the music is that good that it makes a a moving picture book seem far more 3-dimensional than 3-d games.🥹👍

All of the good things you talked about only apply to the first 4 eps though. Chiru is a letdown in almost every ways and not to mention the stupid crap in ep 8. I'd rather stop at ep 4, try to solve all of the mysteries, check the "official" answers (not the manga), and be done with it.
I disagree, Chiru is the necessary punch that provides meaning to the initial 4 episodes. on their own they would be considered a radical, wacky set of metafictive fantasy, but the answer arcs provide the context for you to really understand the story's themes and multifaceted meanings. Episode 2 is literally a completely different story after reading Chiru, on replay it may as well be the first read of a completely new chapter.
I mean, i would, but the entire game has like one mllion plus words... I don't have the time or patience to subject myself to a massive pain like that. I mean fu*k.. even if you, say, halved the entire thing, it'd still be ridiculous.

By the way my favorite tracks from the Umineko soundtrack are:
- Riccordando il passato (full version)
- Golden Nocturne (vocal version)
- dreamenddischarger
- Hope (vocal version)
- Far
- Birth of new witch (full version)
- ACTIVE PAIN
- and if it counts, the anime opening
I read higurashi shortly after umineko; it was pretty funny to see how much of umineko actually referenced back to higurashi in easter egg fashion. i didn't love higurashi's soundtrack quite as much as umineko's, but that's not a diss on the producers' earlier work; every masterpiece stands on the shoulders of giants before them.
Personally I'm a fan of worldenddominator
Ahhh, the music of umineko... how about top 10 of sad and slow melodies and top 10 energetic and fast-paced bangers of umineko? With honorable mentions, of course, cause there's so many of them
Umineko is my favorite thing ever, the single best story I've ever read/experienced
tried to watch the video but instead the entire time I was jamming too much to that GODLIKE SOUNDTRACK GOD UMINEKO IS FUCKING GREAT
Dude, just found your channel and i think it,s great.
I love umineko, thankyou for the video.
He finally uploaded lesgooooo
Its been like a couple of years now since the first time I discovered Umineko in 2015, I was like in 1st year college, but I still keep coming back to Umineko. I’ve read a lot of VNs now but its still in my number one spot.
umineko has the best music in vn
reading Umineko after Higurashi was such a good decision, tie ending hits so hard
Umineko? Never heard of it.
Good video. I’m happy you covered the music. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Glad I could introduce you to something that you have clearly, obviously, never heard of before.
Happy holidays to you as well my friend

I've read umineko VN year ago and yeah would say it was best story and with that fantastic music it really blasts
Umineko is a masterpiece everyone should enjoy :)
Very nice video thank you

Recently the scrambled eggs arc in the quintessential quintuplets has convinced me to finally read the umineko VNs after 1 decade since I watched the anime even if I already spoiled myself by reading the fandom last year. Lol
💀
i know this va from it's bass ass ost that some person put in there ygo deck video lol and it was EPIC
also the lore is vary vary deep, from what i heard and seen a little bit
ayyy man great video, I’ll definitely check Umineko out in the future
I feel like being a different person after reading Umineko and I see the world different then before. But I feel lonely sometimes, because I feel different then poeple that haven´t read Umineko and I wish to meet someday the person that connects with me and seems like that person has to have read Umineko before ^^´
Umineko made me realize that I’d rather go blind than deaf
Would like to hear more about the music. I like it but there's no interviews or anything with the composers...
And the answer to your bonus question: "worldenddominator"
From my humble opinion, do what you think is right for your channel. I'm here since I find your content very interesting. Take your time for the next video. Happy holidays!!
thanks, happy holidays to you as well my friend
im going to start reading this it will be my first vn
It's just a shame they never made an anime adaptation of Umineko.
Would be great if they did that.
A real shame.
Yup. No such adaptation exists.

Currently reading Twilight of the Golden Witch. Somehow I only found Umineko and Higurashi last year. (Not reading slow, I just took a break between 7 and 8. I read all of 3-6 in the span of 2 weeks about a month ago now)
spreading the word, i see
5:13 it’s quite hard to make out, but is that the Far leitmotif? It’s the main motif zts uses, while dai uses Hope as main motif
Umineko was my first VN and i have been hooked ever since, fuck now i want to re read it so thanks 💀
It'd be cool to see more game soundtrack analysis. Tsukihime and Touhou for example
You shouldn't read many visual novels you should Only read good ones.
Are you implying When They Cry series' is bs? Both Higurashi and Umineko?

This video tells me to read Umineko but not HOW to read Umineko…. I dont have a pc. How can I play it on my phone or ipad? Why is that so hard to find
It's not hard to find, because you can't really play it on the phone. There are a few options:
- Get a cloud computer
- If there is any, find a emulator for it
- Get a PC
Hey, i've read some visual novels before (4 or 5) and i always thought about reading Umineko. However, someone told me before that Umineko can't be fully enjoyed without reading the Higurashi Series, and last time i looked higurashi featured 8 games (wich i think is too much wallet aside) and it discouraged me to start actually reading any. So, do you recommend me reading Umineko as is ?
P.S: Nice video as always . And don't think a mere upload frequency is enough to make us ditch you !
Not really, you don't need to read Higurashi to fully enjoy Umineko, the most you're going to miss from it is some references from Higurashi in Umineko, and like a few characthers that appear in both stories (Though you should see them more as references itself and not the same characters.)
Though I do recommend you to read Higurashi too, personally I prefer Umineko, but Higurashi is still an amazing story.
Agrees in ahahaha.WAV
Does switch version have English translation and japanesw voice overs
oh.
Doki doki literature is good the fate series ones I heard are good and others

Denying a witch existence is not that stupid but actually a way to kill her
RO-KIN-G-MA
man you really trying to pitch visual novels to normies by suggesting they start from the one that's like three bibles long as a first read?
show some mercy and recommend katawa shoujo like the rest of us.
I like umineko but I didn't exactly like many of the music tracks

Hard disagree
