      How do you exactly change the difficulty of a game like this? It's linear game full of already scripted events and puzzles, so idk what could be changed.

    The fact that Garten of Banban 2 was released only a FEW MONTHS after the first one should've been a dead giveaway that
    1) The entire game is an attempt to become a merch-producing machine
    2) It's rushed as hell
    3) Why is anyone wasting any time on this game

      tbf scott pumped out games for FNaF and while 2 and 3 were not the most well crafted from a gameplay loop standpoint in my opinion, they introduced unique ideas, good visuals, and a good story with actual intrigue in the plot. The problem here is that garten of banban is not only not the best for gameplay, it has nothing else to lean on.

    Even though we can agree that the second game still has a lack of graphics, very bland chase sequences, and all in all definitely not over the top scary. We all can agree that at least this time it was still a game and also the bird is back.

    I feel that Garten of Banban would be much better if it ditched the mascot horror trend it's desperately chasing and instead leaned towards a more surrealistic liminal space styled horror, the areas in the game already have this weird Backrooms-esque vibe to it and the monsters look like they are something straight out of a obscure Nintendo 64/PS1 game, if it went with this route I think it actually could've been a pretty decent or maybe even a pretty good horror game.

    You know, at least with Poopy Playtime, the enemy deaths are really difficult to miss. Huggy Wuggy’s death is something that you almost have to be blind to miss, and Mommy’s death has a set up where you prepare a trap, and it takes her a while between when she gets caught and when she dies

    to be honest, im fine with the devs using free assests they're fine to use, since not everybody has good modelling skills they need to make a game they want to make, but there's still no excuse for the awfulness of the rest of the game.

      yeah using free assets isnt that bad as long as you don’t just mash them together from different creators.
      stick to a style and maybe use the free assets as a muse for future models, to help better your designs for e.g. a chair

      i still feel like they should be careful with which models- im an artist and the concept of unity is very important in any visual piece, which includes games. alot of the problem with their free asset use is the complete ignorance of making sure they dont look like a patchwork of items

      Its precisely games like this that make bad stigma around bought/free assets in games, this does make me frustrated since its a good tool that can speed along the development time. Its just that alot of attention is brought on games like this that dont use it very good...

      Agreed, like they could have done so much more yet instead they just make everything prolonged and really boring. Like the part where you have to just go from a long corridor for the birds and to another. Or the extremely boring and long chase scene.

    The funny thing is, the FPS problems likely come from the models the Euphoric Brothers made. Fun fact; the drone remote itself has more polygons than the entirety of Super Mario 64.

      Normally in 3D models you go over a sculpt or high polygon model with simpler geometry to capture the details/essence of the model without all the extra polys. It can be incredibly tedious work but is necessary for 3D games and animations to operate properly.
      Don't retopologize properly and you get Banban with the billion poly spider.

      Now in fairness to the Euphoric Brothers I'd chock this up to ignorance rather than outright malice. As if they intentionally wanted to make their game absolutely destroy computers upon booting there's far easier ways than massively unoptimized character models.
      But yes, it's because they didn't simplify geometry. Now at times there are models that even after retopology will be quite large (see the dozens of "2B's ass has more polys than [game]" memes) but those are usually for rather high fidelity or really detailed models (again 2B from Nier, big Soulsbourne bosses, Gravemind for his time, etc.) but for such simple characters I see no need to go beyond 50k-ish polygons for the more "complicated" ones.

    I wanna add a quick comment about store-bought unity assets- it's not the amount of assets you have, but how they get used. Inscryption was a highly critically acclaimed game that won a lot of awards and a good part of it was the atmosphere it was able to build with its art direction. The thing is though if you look in the game's credits, you'll find that most of the game's 3D assets were licensed pre-made assets from the unity store. The devs were able to use those pre-fabs and alter and utilize them in a way that made for a beautifully haunting, cohesive, and rich atmosphere. Point being, I'll never knock a dev for utilizing these assets as long as it's done with care and attention.

      Heck yeah Inscryption! Yeah, I was really surprised when reading the credits. I was like "Really?! Those iconic items were from an asset store?" A little touch-up and atmosphere makes a world of difference.

      I agree. It's also worth noting that a lot of indie devs aren't experienced in 3D modelling. Using store assets isn't necessarily bad - it's bad when they get jumbled together in a nonsensical manner where it becomes an issue and lazy. We all remember the "asset flips" littering the steam store a while back.

      The reason its so confusing to everyone looking at the credits is the fact that this is a 3d game, completely 3d. Inscryption is mostly about the cards themselves and it has a completely 2d section. There was also a lot of experiments with the original models. And the credits isn't just a list of poorly used and non compatible assets

      Yeyeye I fully agree with this. Often times, store-bought assets get thrown in a bad bin (which, I think that’s mostly because of asset-flipper devs and stuff, so there is some merit there), but if a dev can buy an asset that they couldn’t make themself, save multiple weeks of work, and potentially save a lotta money, then it’s a net positive. Store boughts are tools, and like most tools, they only become an issue when they’re used poorly. It’s a time and money saver that makes deving much, much easier, especially if you’re just getting started out.
      However, art direction is important. So is time allocation. If you’re buying assets, the reason SHOULD be so that you can spend more time working on the game. Not necessarily get it out faster (at least imo)

    I think it's a good thing most of the assets are store bought, because their own models are so unoptimized that I'm shocked you were able to record the game at a good framerate

      Prove it. Show me the poly count of BanBan and the texture resolution.
      The game was probably being bogged down mostly by active logic, light mathematics, lack of culling, and other forms of bad optimization.

    the most daunting thing about this chapter to me is Ban Ban's voice. It was really unexpected to hear for me. But I did find the class segment funny at least. And the cult of baby birds, that was adorable.

    Here’s a fun fact about the baby opila bird puzzle:
    you can skip the whole thing
    I did this on my first time playing as I thought this was intended. But when you open the door and opila bird chases you you can run up the ramp. Jump off it and dodge her and then move onto the next section.

      My issue is that we, the community, are giving THIS game a huge spotlight... it really doesn't deserve it in my opinion (compared to loads of other games with more care, thought, uniqueness, and better visuals/gameplay/sound design). Any publicity, positive or negative, is good for this series, but it's sad for us because it validates that the community wants to see content related to this game (when we could instead be supporting much better projects)

      Well considering now they can support themselves better I am sure Chapter 3 will be better
      Really people are clowning of this game too early
      the first game was basically a demo, the second one was an attempt, and if the 3rd isn't an effort then we can be sure that they either were or have become scammers.
      I think the Euphoric brothers need to hold onto their revenue and use it, hire voice actors, learn to voice act better, learn C++ so they can actually use the unreal engine or move to Godot 4, and just take as much time as they need to release something of good quality.
      This is kind of their big break to be honest and they need to put more effort into it.
      I have nothing against them, they're just some indie developers trying to do what they love, but they need to sit down and and take the time to produce something very good and use their money to good use, maybe hiring artists to make unique assets, updating their models and textures, adding better character rigging and face rigging.
      If anyone knows they should tell them this, or at the very least to take their time with the next one to produce something of high quality.
      I think they are a bit defensive, and that's natural because I really do think they probably tried hard for their level of skill, but they need to ignore blatantly bad faith criticism and take in good honest criticism like offered in this video.

    The thing I don't like about this game is the bland areas beside the hallway. It makes the game look really rushed, for example: The final chase sequence was just walls and floors sharing the same textures. I think they could've put a little more time into the textures.

    Uhyeah's fustrations with the game highlight the worst the game has. Alot of segments are drawn out, almost like the Euphoric Brothers wanted to stall the game for two hours to negate refunds. Alot of checkpoints were unforgiving to enforce this dragging out, such as the birds section or the parkour section.

    As someone who hates the first chapter I was hopping they would at least take their time and make chapter 2 at least better but it's obvious the euphoric brothers are just cashing in on the game series while it's still popular. It's quite Clear they don't respect their audience at all and just want to make money from kids who don't know better and it sucks it will turn a profit

      Mascot horror has a large fanbase of kids, and I was apart of it when fnaf became popular, I'm not sure why kids love it so much but the euphoric brothers understood their fanbase and served. The kids don't really care about the bad janky functions

      You don't have to assume someone is money hungry or ill willed to dislike something they've made. Blanket and outright rude statements like this are what don't encourage developers to listen to people. Its fine to not like the game for fair reasons but going and saying they're 2 guys just desperate to cash in while the games popular and who don't respect their audience when they were pretty clearly happy to see how much attention the game got (especially with youtubers they grew up with) and are trying their best with what they have. I find the merch to be unnecessary if they're selling the rest of the games but you got to understand people have to eat and obviously if they're spending time and resources working on a game they're going to put a price tag. Five dollars isn't a lot of money and you gotta understand their perspective here.

    Out of all the reviews of this game that I’ve seen this was definitely the most praise I’ve seen given to it even if it was not that much. I feel like even with how bad the game is right now in my opinion I really hope that maybe the brothers can actually make this a not so bad game. Like you said the potential is there even if it’s a small amount. I look forward to your future uploads and great video as always!

    The expectations for Garten of Banban 2 were low, but somehow it was worse than I expected. The re-used assets are more jarring than the first chapter and the game is very poorly optimized. Let’s not even talk about the drone controls. The saddest part is that like minaxa said, the game has sections that could have been good if the developers didn’t rush the game to keep it popular and trending.

    I literally just stumbled across your youtube channel today, while looking for Analog Horror analysis videos to watch when I came across your Vita Carnis video. It was so well constructed and articulated that I ended up spiraling down to binge the rest of the videos on your channel and ended up REALLY loving your video on Treasure Island. Especially because despite loving the game when I was younger, and watching youtubers play it, I was completely unaware of just how much was going on behind the scenes. Though I've only just come across your channel (And color me surprised at a new video to watch the same day) I want to commend you for the awesome work that you're doing.
    I really love your analysis of the horror genre and it's mediums and I hope to see more! Definitely very excited as well to see your eventual continuation of your FNAF fan game exploration!

    Having (at the time of psoting this) just finished watching ManlyBadassHero play chapter 2 of this game, I want to say that this feels, to me at least, like the product of a creator (or creators) who have an idea of what they want to make a game about, but don't know anywhere near enough about working with the kind of software to actually MAKE that game. Like, the over-reliance on the drone puzzles, to me, feels like those are the game's main source of "puzzles" because that's all they could figure out how to program so far. The few new "puzzles" and attempts at adding unique mechanics to each monster's chases or behaviors in chapter 2 feels like they just figured out how to program that stuff in.
    Tl;dr: Garten of BanBan feels like the creators are learning for the first time how to make a game while smack dab in the middle of making a game.

      "If you want to make your dream game, don't make it right away. Try making other little passion projects until you're good enough." or something along the lines of that.
      Euphoric Brothers, of course, HAVE made other games, but if THIS is their dream game (yikes), then maybe they should go back to making other passion projects.

    Okay so only about 3 minutes and 40 seconds in and I think I have an explanation for the performance.
    MLSpence made a thread about the models in the game and you can tell that they have absolutely no prior knowledge of 3D modelling. Why’s that? Because almost everything has a f*ck ton of unnecessary sides/polygons. Even the stick on the remote (that you carry everywhere mind you) has the same issue.

      I have heard that game models from video games and models for 3D animation have a big differences. I think the devs just straight up using the model that's suppose to be used for 3D Animations straight into the game. It seems that they have yet to have enough knowledge for these kind of things

    I think that opila bird on the first game still has the most creepy scene on the series,
    my favorites of the second game was the snail because it feels surreal with the corridor and her voice lines,

    im pretty sure the low frame rate is mostly due to the COMICALLY high polygon models for the monsters as well as the drone and the remote
    they feel like raw sculpts that they didn't bother retopologizing wich basically thats like pretty unacceptable

    To be fair, I will defend them on one thing. The use of store bought assets on it's own isn't a problem. It's what you choose to do with them that makes the difference. Things still need to mesh well and flow from area to area, which (at least in my opinion) is where they messed it up.
    None of there bought assets work with the playdough looking characters they made themselves. In fact, I don't think any assets could work with them, they would seem out of place regardless, outside of anything other then Roblox...

    This game doesn't deserve to be defended as an indie game, everything about it is a blatant cash grab with no respect to it's players.
    You don't want to hurl the accusation that they're artificially extending game time to prevent refunds but the gameplay intrinsically artificially runs up game time. The drone's design causes puzzles to just be time wasters, the reincarnation sequence you have to watch every death and the save points both waste time, now they're sticking in puzzles that don't need the drone and it's either the blatant time wasting of the bird gathering or it's the finicky guessing game of the classroom that punishes you with having to waste yet more time on the dialogue.
    I fear for what the 3rd part will look like, will it be 5 hours of padding next time? Dialogue that lasts 30 minutes which goes into an immediate chase sequence that makes you go back before the dialogue starts? Buttons you have to have your drone press in order in a big open room but there's pillars that just so happen to cause you to need to trivially bump around so it takes 20 minutes to finish instead of the 2 it would take if you could just click them without the drone?
    The real horror here is by the time you dear reader have read all this you will have spent the amount of time it takes the drone to hit one of those buttons.

      People are too often soft on indie development because they have the mindset that we should encourage more games and improvement within our gaming ecosphere. The concept is that you never know if being soft on an indie developer today will get you a Pizza Tower tomorrow so hold back some of your punches and don't make indie devs just give up if their game is bad or low quality. On top of that indie development causes technical limitations too, so some things you actually can't complain about, I don't feel there is any of that happening with this game though.
      Funny enough the creator of this video only an hour after your reply found out about the game creator's past games, I bet he feels silly blindly saying the devs were good people now so I'll cut him some slack on that.

    If there is one thing that I would tell them in terms of performance I think that they could gain so much by just baking the lighting into the game, you can tell the performance would improve so much by just seeing that when you change performance settings, they are literally just toggling lights on and off, game development is really difficult and I really do hope them the best in their endeavors. I personally don't know if I would ever make a game after all the backlash they received, so props to them for their ability to keep moving forward.

    I feel if the first one was called a demo and this was considered the first people would look on it really differently it would be a good 1st chapter introducing most of the cast showing off many different gameplay elements if they take criticism to heart and expand on the sections people like and cut back on the things that are constantly complained about this game could become good but for a part 2 it doesn't really expand on all that much its more an introduction of a story than the continuation of one

    The Banbaleena part about her having a school of inanimated objects would be cool *if the character was well made*
    It just feels like the VA just read the script as simple as possible and called it a day. The thing is that the character itself dosent fit with the idea bcs ooh spooky im gonna eat ur brain oooooh, if she was like, more innocent or something it would've fitted.
    But that dosen't change the fact that the gameplay there sucks, you just gotta wait till she finishes talking and click a random tape since the answers dont make any sense and it just goes on and on and on and on

    The weird thing is that you can get killed on the X at the end.(I dunno what happened to you) Players can also see what happens to bad teacher(forgot how her name was spelled) if they do things some how the "correct" way.(Go to the right, hit the button then stand in front of the door specifically in the middle other wise for some reason she goes around the X due to weird pathing) Some how you did what usually gets people killed cause like you said there's not exactly a clear directive & live.
    But yeah you have a point it should be a cutscene especially given if you don't hurry after clicking the right button teacher follows you away from the X & you don't always get the chance to turn around & move her back to the X. Made worse by having to start the chase from the beginning if you mess up.
    You make a lot of good points about this. Some I only thought about after you mentioned them. I wonder what will happen for the next chapter?

    An idea that could have made Garten of BanBan more unique would've been if the player was a janitor at the Kindergarten of the game and all the characters are friendly and possibly helpful to the player. The game could look child friendly and cartoonish to deceive the player with the horror beginning with nabnab. He could've been the only thing out to hunt the player down and could have been a failed experiment that was locked up or an unknown being from a different dimension.
    This could have been a unique twist on mascot horror and subverted people's expectations.

    With Opelia bird, I think the hint was the first chapter inside the ball pit wher eyou first deal with Opelia. On the side of the ball pit you could see that there were bird foot prints climbing back up to the entrance of the ballpit, so I think the devs were hinting at "Hey just because you handle Opelia here now, doesnt mean shes gone for good" and with the battered/trashed look she has on her in chapter 2, im pretty sure thats the same Opelia that we knocked down the ballpit in Chapter 1.
    Also with the glass that was also something hinted in chapter 1. There was a note in chapter 1 (cant remember if it was on the wall or paper) but it said that you cant command the drone to fly into glass so you have to find a way to direct it through and its usually by commanding the drone to fly to an object behind the glass.
    With Slow Seline and how you died there, its because you didnt enter the door right after you opened it. The game wants you to run to that door, open it and run inside before Seline makes it too the door because if she can see you in the door its game over. Remember you can only move when shes not looking at you directly but if you are in the door and shes looking inside the door, shes able to see you and get you.
    And finally the end chapter chase, you were supposed to go right and hit the button first before running to the door and at that point you can turn around and see Banbaleena racing after you, and then you could see Jumbo Josh's hand and arm rush down and press Banbaleena into the ground before hoisting her up into the corridor above leaving behind the keycard.
    Overall, the game is wanting you to play in a certain way in order to experience/beat the game and its executed in a way that makes it barely successful but with plenty of flaws.

    Honestly, what really makes me so cynical about this game is not only the fact that they have a link to their merch store on the main page, but also that if you search “Banban merchandise” theres literally hundreds of results for merchandise, in spite of this game JUST releasing AND having an extremely poor reception. This game is clearly just an advertisement for the merch empire they’re trying to set up and its really disappointing - but unsurprising - that they’ve put more time and effort in to the merchandising than they did the actual game.

    The glass puzzle mechanic is fine for me because I remember someone saying (from the first game) that it's really bad because you need to aim the button twice instead of once. This convinces me that it was pointless until I realize that you can't aim directly at the button that is behind the glass (I think); it may be bad still.

    Honestly the classroom part was probably my least favourite part of the game simply because of how repetitive it felt. It was just the same exact thing 3 times with no variation except from the responses you can choose from. I will say that I like how they implied that Banbaleena was crazy due to all the voice recordings being of herself, though I do wish they took it a step further.

    I think something you take for granted that this game lacks, there's no pacing. No time to comprehend and relax after what happened. In Poppy Playtime (since it's the best comparison), after you clear Buggy's Chase, you're given a long enough stretch of Catwalks to relax after the chase sequence, however Garten of Banban doesn't really do this. The Chase Sequences just sort of... End before you know it, and once that happens, you're just... Automatically moving on like that didn't just happen, and nowhere is this more apparent than with the Snail.
    You literally *just* leave the Hallway where that sequence occurs and you're immediately in the Cannon Minigame with zero time to give the player time to second guess or fall into a sense of security because they're already busy trying to continue the game because they're stopped dead in their tracks.
    Also, I think the word that would better fit your argument in regards to the Opila Chicks is "Padding". The game is loaded with it, and the Drone is the agregous example. Nowhere is this better seen than in the Hallway before Opila Bird's chase, as you have to Drone Ram 3 Switches to open the door. For no reason. It would've worked better if it was *during* the Snail Sequence since then you're having to work under stress while also avoiding being spotted.

    I think this series of games has potential
    My only quips are about the shortness of the chapters or whatever, how slow and somewhat aggravating the drone is
    Also I think the save points should just be after cutscenes and dialogue points
    The voice acting is pretty decent, actually. Also Banbalina is a bit trigger happy-
    I feel like it would be worth the 4.99(?) Better if it was longer.
    The spider is also really finicky with slight mistakes. And the collecting the baby bird thing would be better if we didn't have to walk so far
    Personal opinion, doesn't really mess up the experience for me but it'd be neat if the character models had a little more texture than just veins n a bit of wrinkling
    Over all pretty decent, emphasis on decent, could be touched up though

    This entire video makes me wonder: why is this so popular? the game obviously sucks, but it's not like this is a major studio or anything. It's just two guys. Making a super low budget game. Why didn't this get ignored along with the other thousands of pretty terrible mascot horror clones?

    I see a lot of people defend this by saying well Scott Cawthon released each game months after each other so why is it a problem now but there’s a difference between a point and click game and a full 3D game even so Scott made all the animatronics and backgrounds himself so its not a fair comparison

    i genuinely found this to be worse than the first game, basolutely disgusting. they even got a whole ass price tag to back it up like with what audacity
