- Kansas / Portrait (He Knew) - a virtual collaboration of the song taken from the 1977 Point of Know Return album. Kerry Livgren of Kansas was so fascinated with Albert Einstein that he wrote this song about him. "You know, that was one of my personal goals in songwriting - was to make people use their brain cells." - Kerry Livgren
Al Herda- vocals/audio edit / wishpoolvocal (USA)
Matt Teepe - drums/video edit / weazeravalon (USA)
Jorge - violin / jogviolin (Spain)
Pat Ryan- guitars, backup vocals / versevisa (USA)
Richie (U.R.) - keyboards / rushyeskansas (Germany/Brazil)
Ron Hall- bass / tinman3012 (USA)

He was in search of an answer
The nature of what we are
He was trying to do it a new way
He was bright as a star
But nobody understood him
His numbers are not the way (lyrics from Portrait) Видеоклипы
@TheDrumChannel: Joe, thank you for the compliments in the name of the whole team. You exactly understood the message we want to send out to the YT community with these tribute videos ... to remind the people about the music and the bands that are almost forgotten nowadays, even though their music was timeless in our opinion. KANSAS is one of these bands.
Thank you Dave ... yeah, it was a great team and it was definetely fun to do it.
Hey Richie my friend, like always, it was an honor to be part of this one next to you & the other members of this collab, big hug from Spain buddy!
@TheCheezMusic: Happy New Year to you too Cheez, thank you for your kind words. We really appreciate it, especially coming from a big Kansas fan like you. Cheers 2012!!!
@AstralBlueDreams777: Thank you Dan, we appreciate your opinion very much. You work with video editing too, so you know how much effort Matt and Jon put in this video. Not to forget the excellent work from Al with the audio mix too!

Back for another listen.....Wow......Just loved the passion you all had on this !!
Dave.
First of all I absolutly love this song and the quality of the audio is just top notch. The Einstein theme was just perfect for this song and everyone just kicked but on this song. A great editing job by Matt doesn't go unnoticed as well.
I forgot about so many great songs on this album. Thanks for reminding me

@amccann7:thanx a lot Amy, we are glad you like it!
Great Compilation! Love it!
this deserves more views
bksl09 Very true, it even the REAL Kansas from day one was never a truly "big" band except for the song Dust in the Wind which is great but not even close to a reflection of what the entire Kansas band sounded like. Extreme has the same problem. Acoustic hit, not what they typically play, ignored by general public. Heck...most ALL great music by great bands once MTV shows up stopped being appreciated and it just became the T&A lame music (always exceptions guys!) and what fashion trends were created with each new Madonna or Duran Duran video. Such a sad truth at least here in the USA.
@sticksbass: People like Einstein should be immortal ... this world can never have enough brilliant minds. But he reached immortality with his ideas and his world-changing principles!
@yea78861: thank you my friend ... your opinion is always highly appreciated Tim!
I'm usually a nit-picking kind of guy when it comes to "Tribute" bands.. If you're gonna be a tribute band, you should definitely sound like that band.. THESE guys are great!!
I am very impressed!! Nice job!!
I agree with Ben Elmer.. Hardly a difference in this & the original recorded by Kansas!
Thanx Dallas, we are glad you liked it. Yeah, you are absolutely right, a "tribute" should sound as close to the original as possible, thats what we tried to do. A cover can be even a kind of different version of a song, would you agree? ... thank you for the nice comment ... greets from Brazil!
rushyeskansas..
Ur very welcome!
You know, I've thought about the song "Portrait (He Knew) with a heavier guitar sound.. a little more *distortion* & volume.. To me this is a rockin' song so with more *distortion* it would really rock! Not alot more but more, if you know what I mean...
If you guys can re-record it as a "heavy metal" type song, that would be great.. Not too heavy but heavier.. ;-)
Best to you all!!
Randy A Carlisle
@69lucyfer: Grazie!!! we thank you!
Wow, excellent job
Thank you J.
I love this song.....you guys should make a record :)))))....Wish i could play like you do my brotha....Keep these coming...Now I have a new feature song for my channel....!!!!!
@maks3254: Thanx Maks! keep rockin' !
@Scream4vengeance: Merci bien J.C. ... bonne année 2012 pour toi aussi mon ami.
@Donn713: Thanx Donn ... you know how much your opinion counts for me. And yeah, the people already expect no less from us, so it´s getting always harder to still top it, but we always try :))))
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
Danke dir Henry!
Henry Mittnacht Hi Henry! It figures you make a remark about this band, but never noticed the original band when I was in it as well as working with you and all those cliques on that collaboration site. Well, that was a few years around 2008 right? I just have an excellent memory. Hope all is well with you, your practice, your playing, your family, and everything else that matters in your life. Me? I'm not going to be around much longer. Then nothing will matter to me ever again. So I have that to look forward to. I've never known in my life what it's like NOT to give a shit about nearly everything. Especially those things I've ever been involved with. I'm looking forward to the peace of eternity.
Neal Van
Hi Neal, I just sent you an Email to your @att.net adress to see if it´s still valid. My emailadress- you may still haveit- is valid!
Great job by all musicians!
Now, I'd love to get an answer to this please... how can this project be found while searching specifically for "OurVirtualKansas"?? None of the original members are in this project started by drummer Jerry and two keyboardists George and Roland. I was original member #4 on bass. I was kicked out when Jerry found or vice versa this singer here Al from somewhere in the Midwest USA. For whatever reason I have or he has...we simply and instantly strongly disliked each other. Was that polite enough for ya Al? The truth means nothing, right? Anyway, I was replaced by the excellent bassist in this and all subsequent REAL OVK songs which only amounted to two. One with Al here and the others with a really great singer Ben who was someone I had never met, but he took the time to say he was sorry about whatever happened and he would happily sing songs in his vocal range for me anytime if I wanted. Not even the drummer Jerry who founded the project had the backbone to return my messages about the next song timeline. I got my dismissal message from Roland telling me what Jerry wanted. And so it goes...
This is an excellent tribute to Kansas. I just do not think there is anything fair about a search for a DIFFERENT Kansas tribute coming up with this OTHER tribute band. But if I know what's happening...it's very likely that some or much of the metadata for this band is using the original tribute bands name to bring fans of Kansas to their channel. Too bad all this talent can't simply just use all their own info instead of stealing from the band that started great Kansas tribute projects!
Ron, I was trying to write to you directly, but couldn't get any email address from your channel. Sorry I had to write this here. I'll bet Al will delete as soon as he sees it. Band sounds great as you all know. Best of luck to all but Al.
Jorge...I really wished I had the chance to work with you! I think you're truly an amazing violinist. I've watched all of your videos and having gotten my BA in Classical Music, I really appreciate the depth of your skill and passion. I hope you can make money being as talented as you are in your real life...I love and admire your skills!
Hey Neal thank you for the comment, this is Richie (keyboardist) writing to answer your questions:
First of all, this is NOT Al's channel, it is my channel "RushYesKansas"and I won't delete your comment.
I posted the video, which is also posted on the YT-channels of the other members of this project. Please check the description of the video to find the respective links to their channels and videos. Probably they won't even read your comment here, because they don't get any notifications about comments posted on MY channel.
Now to your question, why this video was found while searching specifically for "OurVirtualKansas" ... simply ... I DON'T KNOW! Maybe you should really speak with a RUclips admin about that, because the meta data used for this video (I just checked it again!!) doesn't contain the key word "ourvirtualkansas" The only matching key word is "Kansas" and I doubt that nor OVK neither you have exclusivity in using it. So, why are you accusing me to use references of the "original band?" (=OVK???) ... Btw, there are lots of Kansas tribute bands out on YT, that also use the key words "Kansas"+"Tribute" for which also doesn't exist any exclusivity as far as I know. Furthermore none of the descriptions and titles of OVK videos do even contain in any way the word "Tribute"!
I hope I could answer your questions satisfactorily, and one more word, I really love OurVirtualKansas, I am a fan of the first hour and most of the members of OVK are my friends, so I would never do anything to offend or put them down nor use their name in any way. I am in no need to "steal" anything!
Thanks again for your comment, glad you liked our Tribute though. Long live KANSAS!!!
Richie
Hi Richie, I'm sorry my remarks wound up on your channel, but it did show up under the search parameters I mentioned. I respect you and all those except one who helped make an excellent tribute to Kansas. I doubt you might since you already have people, but I'd be interested in any of the tribute projects you choose to do. Might I ask you to work with me on other tributes if you find them of interest?
No problem Neal, you said what you had to say and I also respect that. If somebody is not personally offending me, I will always reply to any comments or criticism for my videos.
Nevertheless I am really surprised that my video shows up when you search for "ourvirtualkansas", I just tried and it didn't. So that means YT (Goofle) is using different search critiria for different users ... typical "Goofle" politics! ;)
Concerning to future collabs, I have to admit I kind of retired from the collab scene since more than 3 years now. Since then there are still some pending projects in the works, which I hope to finish one day, but I am not planning to start or participate in new collabs in the near future. Anyway, thank you for your offer!
Richie, thanks so much for taking my comments as they were meant. Sorry you've gotten a bit tired of the collaboration thing, you talents will be sorely missed. With only my one exception, I said exactly what I thought and the tribute is terrific. I've checked out your other collaborations and those are equally well done in my opinion. I'm also a big fan of all progressive rock bands. Too bad no one cares enough to do a tribute to Starcastle. I know all those crazy bass parts from their first four albums, but then again...I was an early Toto fan too and was bummed when things changed and they came out with Africa. So who can figure out why I like what I like? LOL
On a topic important to me regarding tribute projects. I've been trying to find a really excellent and serious versatile Soprano to sing all the early Heart vocals by Ann and Nancy Wilson. I've learned and recorded over twenty songs from their first four albums mainly, with a few MTV hits thrown in to make things easier. No luck finding the talent or even the ones who say yes keeping their promise. If ya know or heard of anyone you think might be worth contacting, please let me know? My Heart music is at www.bandmix.com/merlinfl and please excuse most of the drumming. I did the best I could under the circumstances I had to work with. If I find a singer, I'll likely go back and get those drum parts done much better.
Thanks for your time,
Neal
my father was friends w einstein's granddaughter. i met her at his funeral.
dude right on listened to the original theres hardly a difference
Oh hell ya.. vocals were great but really dry.. a little reverb would fix that.. everyone was right on the money.. thanks guitar guy for keeping it real and not trying to shred it ..
Thank you Randy, I see what u mean with the vocals, but was not my mix this time. Our guitarrist Pat is always very true to the original with sound and performance. Comment very much appreciated!
@@rushyeskansas I'm more or less a retired keyboardist is S.C. I tried so many times to get a Kansas tribute band together .. it was finding a singer that always held us back. There's not one song from "point of no return " back to the first album that I haven't learned.. it does an old guy good to hear you young players tackle this music..
@@randytrader3026... Yeah, I understand, it is not easy to find a singer who could do justice to Steve Walsh. Btw talking about an old guy ... just for the record, I am 57 and not a young player anymore :))))
@@rushyeskansas Haha, ok , well I'm 60 , so I guess you're not that young.. we're not that old either.. look at the Rolling stones.. lol. One last thing , which one are you ??
@@randytrader3026 I am the keyboardist LOL! .. and yes, compared to the Rolling Stones we are really young bloods.
