This is quite relatable, I worked as data scientist in one of the well stable firm for close to four years and realized post my daughter birth that I was in comfort zone for last two years. I gave no interviews, was ok with decent appraisal, showed reluctance to change organization but thanks to my daughters I gave 5 interviews last year, got offer letter from three firms and switched to new organization. It kind of changed my life in a very good way

    Good Info. Sir.
Getting out of Comfort Zone is a must to Grow/Progress.
On the same note, even if you are in a Stable Job (where you are enjoying the work, you are important for company, getting challenged often, learning/progressing etc.), if a reasonable appraisal is not offered by the company, then it may be the time to move on. However do try to negotiate and try to come to an agreement first, before moving on.

I worked at tata technologies for 3 years and got paid like 3% appraisal every year as the company was not making profits (wht managers and HR said, even if u get good ratings appraisals are pathetic ). So i gave some interviews and every interviewer asked me why i was switching my job frequently... i had switched 4 companies in 11 years, but in every interview they ask everyone from automotive industry why we r switching, its an industry where the appraisal is way too low and switching is the only way to get reasonable pay.

    • @Godgodgod203

How one can manage this after age of 50? coming out of comfort zone may not be feasible in this age. As opportunities are rare. Can you guide after 50 how one should go about transition?
One want to change job but job enquires are almost none and even published in linkedin, there will be 500 to 2500 people applying for it. Applying for these like a lottery system.

I have experienced this illogical strategy resulting in collapse of great product software, clients suffering and ultimately the company ( Impacts owners and share holders). These strategists move to another company to repeat same disaster. No option than switching companies frequently and concentrate on yourself than company.

Thanks for this amazing content Anand. I do follow this strategy. One question :: Every time, while testing my market competency, if I get to proof myself by cracking an interview that has complete new opportunities in terms of learning and exposure, better brand value and also better competitive package, should I go for it? Or interviews should be taken just to check my competency? If I crack after going through 5 to 6 rounds and do not join, I noticed, such companies are not opening future opportunities for me. Is this real? Any guidance on this?

Hello Anand first of all let me tell you that I recently Joined IBM and having total 13 years of experience, 6.3 years each in Capgemini and TCS. However the initial 7 months got two projects and both the projects were ended due to some budget and Project Release issue. The third that I got is dangerous 😢. No distribution of workload, even I asked for release only after working for 3 months. It’s not that I am not liking job but feeling more than exhausted at times. I am not afraid to work but initially can expect some help right?

I like your inputs sir but to be honest most of us are not in comfort zone and will work our ass off but still underpaid. I have been on the road for 10 years (worked in 5 companies) but still haven't found a company that appreciates hardwork and pays accordingly. Also labour laws and hr policies are all mostly in favour of employers so they can set whataever they please in all aspects of employment. I dont think there is anything called stable job and defintely comfort zone is out of question especially for us as indians as we need to juggle both as family person and a professional. Its just my personal experience so may not be applicable for everyone. If you shed light on hr policies and labour laws in your upcoming talks we might get a perspective on why we are underpaid, is it our fault or systems or both.
