BEST CUP of coffee at home? The Tchibo Coffee Maker!

- I LOVE coffee. All of it: pour-over, drip, espresso, holiday lattes, all of it. So when German brand Tchibo (one of Europe's top coffee shops) asked if I wanted to try their coffee and new machine, called "The Tchibo," which grinds and brews your coffee, I said, "YA"!
They are finally bringing their delicious coffee and maker to America which should make you as excited as I was and here's why:
1) No pods, no waste. The machine grinds its own beans and then produces a "puck" after each cup and you simply empty the dispenser tray after a few cups. Love that.
2) You can use ANY beans. You don't have to order specific pods like Nespresso or Kureig. That keeps costs down and your options open to try different beans.
3) You can adjust the grind setting to make a coarse or fine grind of the beans which really adds some nice control.
4) The slim design fits well on any countertop and looks great.
5) It has an option to pre-warm your cup with a little hot water and that's been a surprisingly useful feature as our apt always seems to be cold!!

How many cups of coffee per day for you? I’m around 3 these days!! Comment below!!
4 or 5
Average 3 cups a day BUT the last one is after dinner and brushing: the last cup will be before I sleep. Without coffee , I can not sleep
25 - in full disclosure I'm also a zombie 🧟♀️. 😶
I loved the sounds it makes
Hahaha. It’s very satisfying. I agree. Do you have one?
Excellent video! Very informative-thank you.
Yeahhhhh. Thanks so much for checking it out. Happy coffee!!
Great review! Thank you
Just got my Tchibo machine and am figuring out how to "double boost" the amount of coffee. We like our coffee very strong and even with the boost, it's a bit weak for our taste. Process that I think works well is to brew a boost 6 oz and then add an espresso shot. Richer, deeper coffee. We use an Italian roasted Sumatran bean currently.
Ohhhh that already has me wanting more coffee!! Hahaha...the struggle is real. I do like how we can swap the beans at any time we want based on new coffee shops or beans we find along the way. Hope you are still enjoying it. The light is pretty cool too.
Purchased after watching your review and have been quite impressed with the machine.
Yeah! Awesome. Lots of great machines out there so I'm glad you've liked this one as much as me!!! Thanks for the click!
I actually went and bought this machine here in Poland, after watching this ad. Very pleased with it. Great quality and great price
OH that's awesome! My hope was simply to bring the pros and cons to light and let you guys decide!! I'm glad you were happy with your choice! Hows the coffee?
I have a bad info for You. Underneath its the same as Beko and Sencor and propably a few others cheap makes. You will have many issues with sensors mainly spill container sensor. Its just a chinese copy of a copy with some pesonalized body and a Tchibo label on it. Unfortunatelly
@@SmasherFPV23 yeah that was my suspicion too-good-to-be-true not going to be anything like the expensive grind and brew machines at the 7 eleven. I will stick to my pour over, burr grinder, and electric gooseneck kettle.
Thank you for an informative review.
Glad it was helpful! It's worth looking at b/f making that type of buy!!
Great review! Thank you! Our schedules all kinda cray now a days and switched to keurig for the single brew. We now want to switch back to fresh ground coffee and this seems just the ticket!
It’s been great. Truly fresh and I love that we can rotate through different beans and there is no waste.
You need dry European beans. Use oily US beans & you will clog the grinder. Took me a couple of days to get mine working correctly again.
How do you unclog the grinder?
I just got mine today. They were on sale, and I can't wait to try it tomorrow!
How was it?! I had two cups myself today!
@@bhaz so much more flavorful than Nespresso. I had to adjust the grind, so we'll see if that makes a difference tomorrow. My grounds were not even getting saturated.
@@k2ks414 where did you buy it?
@@MattTigers from Tchibo.
I’m late to this party, but I was recently given this machine from my husbands coworker. Still pretty much brand new (no box or instructions), she just didn’t want it. I’m grateful for this video to give a quick breakdown of how to take it apart and it’s functions. I would’ve had pucks stacked for days otherwise lol.
Hahahahaha. Yeah--that's pretty important. You still liking it?
Absolutely. I use it every day.
We have had our tchibo for about a year now. The worst part is cleaning out the grounds! Do you do a youtube about that? We really love our Tchibo!
I AGREE! Yeah, it has taken some time to figure it out but I have a pretty good process down. Maybe I'll do a video about that too! Good call.
stumbled upon this brand when looking for reusable pods. seems like a no-brainer purchase to me even though I already have hand crank grinder. was ready to make purchase but decided to check the Tube for review videos. thanks for doing this! going to consider some kind of rollout platform to avoid having slide actual machine across counter daily haha. fun to feel like an early adopter 😎
worth noting too, i just really wasn't sold on keurig or nespresso and knew there had to be a better alternative
Glad I could help! That's EXACTLY WHY I made this review. I couldn't find anything about it and since they got in touch with me early on, I figured other people would be asking! How do you like it?
Thanks your video.. from Hungary ✌️✌️😊
Heyyyyyy. Thanks for the note!! I appreciate it!! Do you have one?
It is hard to find any information on this new machine with it being so new - that said, thanks for the review. Based on your feedback, I decided to give it a try and myTchibo arrives today!
That’s exactly why I wanted to do this review! In my research it was hard to find any information about this as well so in the brand reached out about giving it a go I thought I have to make a review because this machine is going to do really well in America and I’ll be lots of people like yourself looking for one. Let me know how your coffee goes!!
@@bhaz I have to admit, the Tchibo Coffee Machine has produced some very tasty coffee, at a price point that really cannot be beat. I am by no means a a professional coffee aficionado, just a regular guy who enjoys a great cup of joe!
That said, after using the the machine a couple of times per day over the weekend, here are a few observations I made that are worthy to consider. I do agree with you that the location of the water tank is not ideal for refilling and having to pull it out from under a cabinet is somewhat annoying. The only other issue that I would add to the downside list for the machine is the lack of a bypass door .
While I am the only coffee drinker in the my household, we do have guests and family that have different coffee tastes / needs (i.e. caffeine restrictions). Having another machine on standby for those situations isn't exactly ideal.
If you can get past this, I will say that the coffee this machine produces really is great.
Bought mine from Amazon so I would have a 30 day return. It won’t be returned it is doing exactly as I wanted. I’ve been using a SAECO for over 20 years, I hope this lasts as long. We like Tchibo Espresso Milano, however it is hard to find in the US.
I have a Jura z 5 that I bought years ago it was over 4000 with cup warmer drawer and cool control cream refrigerator.
Why do you have to go and make me jealous?! Sounds fantastic!
Usually just a cup a day, the ol morning routine. Thanks for the info and review.
Have you tried an Aeropress?
This is probably one of the best bean to cup machine. I use it everyday and the coffee is awesome! Right now Tchibo ran out of stock for a few months now and they don't know when it will come back in stock. It's so good I need to buy a second one for our second home. Yes it's that good.
I agree! It's been great. I've started needing to clean it more often but still clicking away...or grinding away. Curious why it's not being re-stocked? Hmm.
@@bhaz Most likely a supply shortage issue...parts..etc. I'm actually moving to a semi-automatic learning to be a home barista. I'll use Tchibo as my primary work week (M-F) for convenient, just a push of a button. We got our Tchibo brand new with beans for $299 on Amazon. It is now $529 and out of stock. They do have a refurbished model for $399. Greed Greed greed!!!
Amazing, I have to watch commercials in between this commercial.
my $1500 Saeco crapped out last week, I really don't wanna spend another 2 grand on a coffee machine again, so I was quite surprised when this showed up in my IG feed, gonna give it a try just because it's so much cheaper than the other Euro espresso machine. I mainly used it to make drip style coffee anyways, so even if it doesn't make great espresso, as long as it make decent american style coffee I'm OK with it. Also, I remember the Tchibo brand when I lived in Germany as a kid in the 90's, so there's the nostalgia angle to this as well I suppose.
Can you do a long term review at this point? Also, a video detailing your cleaning and maintenance of the machine would be helpful.
Oh man! I should do this. It's so important to keep it cleaned out and that can be a bit of a headache. I'll see about doing one. Overall, a year later, still love it and use it a few times a day!
How many grams of beans are ground with the boost button?
what grind setting for the beans do you find to be optimal for the best cup? Thank you!!
Good question! I actually leave in the middle--I'd say for espresso if you wanted to adjust it to a smaller grind that's probably best. I've read that usually it's a larger coarse ground for French Press and usually medium for a Chemex or pour-over where you are controlling the water. So I bump it down a little more. Does that help??
Had a Tchibo machine, while spending eight summers in Europe, but it included a milk frother which I wish this had. We do have a Nespresso and Keurig machine, but I do feel guilty filling the earth with plastic and aluminum.
Same one I have. But now my machine's coffee adjuster is stacked. I don't know how fixed this. All the time I seen msg no beans but ithas beans.
Does this do espresso? Americano?
It sort of does espresso--it's really dependent on the beans you use but it makes an espresso-like pour, tasty too! You can also add hot water from the spout onto your espresso shot so yeah, I've made Americanos before! Have you tried that?
Thanks for the review after you said that you won't get the same Rich taste out of a pour-over I decided it's not for me. I enjoy pour overs and even the clever dripper. I will stick to those save the money and enjoy the Richer tasting coffee.
What's the best grinder setting for this machine for mild coffee creme?
That's a great question. I'd say courser grounds are better for lighter coffee b/c its easier for the water get through quicker but that's just my assumption.
I just got mine yesterday. Only thing I'll say is there's not a lot of froth on the op of my coffee when it's done pouring. You think it's because of the grind? I used a finer grind for a medium roast coffee bean.
I’m not a coffee expert but I would say that’s prob right: the different beans will yield diff results. Hope it’s still working out well for you!
Does anyone know how to fix the problem of the machine not emptying a compressed coffee after each use??
I am waiting on a response from customer service but have not heard anything yet.
I have only had this machine for about 10 months and I have loved it but now it seems to be on the fritz!!😢
Do the coffee brew options have the same amount of caffeine as the espresso option or are they more similar to the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee? I’m sorry if that didn’t make sense. I am just curious if it’s a cup of coffee or the equivalent of espresso
I'd say it's similar to espresso. Sometimes I'll do a shot with water like an americano, sometimes just a shot by itself. I don't know for sure and it's hard to really tell how much caffeine I'm getting but yeah, it feels more like a traditional shot. Did that help?
How many cups is the water basic good for? Do you have to refill it for every cup?
Thanks for the comment! Actually, you get...hm...I'm sure there is a precise answer but I'm going off memory in the mornings. I'd say 4-6 cups out of it.
If this machine isn’t for you, any recommendation on a similar but even better machine? Looking for a machine that grinds and single serves without using filter paper. I’m using the delonghi true brew and the coffee doesn’t come out hot enough!
Ohhhh great question. IDK what's a good alternative. I've looked as well just to keep up with the times. Hmmm.
How much coffee would you say it uses for each of the settings?
My house goes through a large 28oz can of whole beans in around 10 to 12 days. We drink a lot of coffee though. The grind puck it creates is about 1 by 2 inches in size.
Ok, so after watching this review and being on the fence I just pulled the trigger.
I love coffee and would consider myself a connoisseur, I've had more machines than I care to say (always chasing that perfect cup)
I'm not overly impressed with the Nespresso but it's quick, I'm hoping this will produce a more flavourful shot with better crema?
I like that you can also make a cup of coffee, I'm hoping this will replace two machines on my counter, your thoughts?
I totally agree about chasing that perfect cup and wish you the best of luck. I'd say this will be really good--the light froth, the fresh ground beans, make for a great cup. I'm very curious how it has been?
@@bhaz I am curious, too! I'm between this machine and a Philips.
Hi Bradley - Any idea how this Tchibo machine compares to the Jura A1?
Ohhhhh. Great question. I haven't done a comparison so I don't really know. There might be some other reviews out there! Good luck and let me know if you find a good answer.
Looking for a economy machine which can produce a nice "crema" like espresso. Will this work?
Have you tried Nespresso?
I'm 2:44 into this and i have learned very little.
"Foam"? Did you mean crema?
What kind of reheat time between brews?
OH it's really fast. Just a few seconds and you'll be ready to do it again!
I don't quite understand what the boost does and how you use it. Also, do you put in only the amount of coffee beans you would use for one cup of coffee? And then put in more if you want a second cup?
Thanks for checking in! It "boots" the intensity of the coffee--I think it's a few more beans in the grind. And no, I put a big bag of coffee in and let it sit there until the beans grind down. Usually holds about 10 cups-worth depending on how big the cups are. Do you have one and like it?
@@bhaz Not yet, but I'm seriously considering getting one.
Do you know what the brew temperature is? That's a major drawback for keurig, besides the pods having such a small amount of coffee.
Ohhhhh. That's a great question. I do NOT know that. I'd reach out to them directly! Good luck.
According to Tchibo tech support, the brew temperature is 190°F. Same as Keurig. : (
any tricks to get the water to flow again when you accidentally run it out of water?
Yeah it should just stop and then fill it back up and when you put the tray back in, should restart.
So after coming from the Middle East where coffee puts hair on your chest.... I have not found good coffee in Germany until I went to the Tchibo Store--OMGosh....the coffee is to die for. I'm a coffee SNOB and after watching your review... THANK YOU! I'm convinced... I'll buy a machine Sorry... no hablo aleman :)
That's fantastic!! I truly think this is a great machine and use mine multiple times a day! I hope you enjoy yours as much as we do over here!
Can't wait to get this, cannot go wrong with good ol German Engineering!
Did you get it yet? What do you think?
@@bhaz not yet but I will
I was ready ti pull the trigger then I got worried the coffee would be too weak for me. Now on the fence
Just received my Tchibo, shipping was unexpectedly fast. I find the coffee so-so, a bit hollow even with the grind setting at the finest and boost. However, the espresso is really delicious, full and sweet. I am comparing the coffee it produces to a pour over, which isn't a great comparison, you just can't beat a pour over for quality. Happy with my purchase, looks like I have a winner on my hands, I love espresso.
That's fantastic news about the espresso! You know what? I feel the same way in terms of the taste. I had been using a french press for nearly two months but I knew going in it wasn't going to be that flavor/intensity. BUT it's def. not as weak and flavorless as my mom's 10-cup coffee maker. I see it as a middle ground between a Chemex and Mr. Coffee. Glad you like it. I'm still rocking mine while still interspersing a pour-over when I have an easy morning!
@@bhaz totally agree, with this machine I'll enjoy delicious espresso, maybe an Americano during the week, and a relaxing pour over during the weekend.
After many iterations, I found the best tasting coffee is to make a boost espresso, then a small non-boost coffee on top. All on the finest grind setting. Use Colombian supremo fresh roasted beans. Yum!
@@bromfrog Ohhhhh. Nice combo. I'll have to try!
Does this make a true espresso or is this just making a smaller cup of coffee? Also, I heard some customers are having issues with their machine, have you had any problems with yours?
Hey and thanks for checking in! I'd say it's not a TRUE espresso. If you used espresso beans and adjusted the grind setting to fine, I think you'd be close but there is no substitute for pure, true espresso. That said, I think it comes pretty close!
I have not had any issues with mine at all. I've cleaned it about once a month and did the descaling when it prompted me with the little icon but that's all.
Good luck!
@@bhaz thank you so much for responding!
@@lisagalamb8707 I bought one of these machines about 6 weeks ago and have been very happy with it. We make between 4-7 cups per day with this machine and have had zero issues so far. Like any grind-to-brew you will need to follow the maintenance instructions pretty closely to keep it in shape. I'd recommend it if you're on the fence.
@@jyucis thanks Jeff for responding! Does the coffee come out hot?
Do you still have it
Is Is it still working? Are you satisfied with it? Thanks bro ✌️✌️ i will buy it
Yes 100% but I heard it's out of stock so make sure it's not! I will say you'll need to clean it more regularly and indepth than a K-cup machine or Nespresso but it's worth it and keeps coffee cheap!
Hi Bradley, have you tried the TK - 01 from Terra Kaffe? I just tried this machine today and really enjoy it. I’d be interested to see how it compares to the Tchibo because I haven’t used the Tchibo yet. And hey if you want some free specialty coffee to try on the Tchibo let me know - I’m cofounder of Brazilian Gold Coffee. I enjoyed your review, and ich spreche nur ein bisten Deutch.
Ohhhhh I don’t know!! I gotta try it though. Sounds so good! Thanks for the heads up.
Is the coffee hot enough?
Thanks for commenting! I think so! I love warming the cup first but even without that feature, it’s plenty hot. Usually have to let it sit a minute before drinking.
* Review of Tchibo beans* we just bought beans from tchibo and i don’t really like the taste it… it’s end of the November and they roasted it in July soo it’s really fresh (if you’re a coffee guy you know that the beans have the best quality from 2 to 4 weeks from the day when it was roasted ).. we have tried 3 types of coffee(in EU barista cafè crema (best of them)crema intense and African blue (which one is processed wet, worst one) … BUT if you want to drink the best one you should buy it from local rosters I’m really recommending it
By the way good content 👆
Oh thanks! Yeah I agree that local beans is best! One of the things I love about this machine is the ability to switch up the beans when you want so local, Tchibo, etc.
I had to lol at "I don't like anything on my counter"........ what is that lamp or ?? on the left side of the video?
Anyway, is 8oz the largest cup size?
and..
What type grinder? Any chance it's a cone burr? IDK if we're so snobbish that we'd notice the difference, but we do have a cone burr grinder now.
Hahahaha...that's such a great point! I was actually shooting this at my aunt's house but I didn't even think about it! Yeah, 8 oz is the largest size on this machine.
You might be able to program it for a larger pour. I adjusted my espresso setting to 4 oz.
Got mine today. Grinds and dumps the unused ground coffee into the waste bin. No coffee. I guess I'll see how their customer service is.
How was their customer service?
So if I buy this coffee machine i can use any brand of whole beans? Thanks this was very informative!
Yes...exactly! I thought was a really cool element too!
@@bhaz Thanks! I’m plan to order one soon. I’m so tired of buying coffee pods it will be nice to use beans instead.
I've searched everywhere to determine whether this machine uses a blade or burr grinder. Nobody says, not even Tchibo! If it's burr, I'm interested. A blade grinder is worthless to me.
Thanks for checking in! I had the same question and couldn't find it so if you do, let me know! That said, it sounds like it's really grinding it like my Hario Skerton but clearly much faster. So MAYBE...it's a grinder?
@@bhaz -- Hi, I have good news and bad news, at least for me. The grinder uses metal burrs, which is good news. Bad news: the water is heated to 190°F, rather than the ideal range of 195° to 205°F. BUNN home brewers heat the water to 200°F, and I'm currently using the SCA-certified BUNN Heat 'N" Brew. I'm a fan of Tchibo coffees, so I was initially excited about the Tchibo machine.
This is my question too!
I'll stick with my Technivorm Moccamaster and Baratza Maestro grinder. I seriously doubt the Tchbio is even in the same league.
Why you so cold?
Sadly the spout is plastic. Thanks though for the review.
Thanks for watching!!
But that logo thou….
Pure Tchibo advertisement. Where is the independent review???
Looks nice, but I don’t want my grinder part of my coffee maker.
Having lived in Germany, I can attest that built-in grinders are pretty much universal in Europe for any non-pod/pad machine.
Great sales pitch…. I might buy “anything” from this sweet guy. BUT…. I think I hate this coffee maker. I shouldn’t actually say hate, because I really enjoyed the frothy, creamy coffee (Starbucks brand) that it finally served me. So 1st off, as he mentioned, it weighs too much.. which makes it difficult to move when adding water, cleaning it, or your countertops. 2nd.. hopefully no one is trying to sleep-in anywhere near this thing. It is extremely loud, which no one wants to hear on a beautiful relaxing morning. 3rd.. when I opened the side panel to clean out the coffee bean remains, it was a total mess. Clumps of “old” coffee were everywhere, stuck to every part of the mechanism, and when I pulled out the tray, there was no neat compact “pod” anywhere to be found. This thing definitely needs to be cleaned everyday. I did not purchase this coffee maker, and I really don’t think you should either… it was part of an audience gift from a talk show. I can’t believe this company is a personal favorite in Europe and that they have been in business for 70 yrs, he said? I’m sure they must have better coffee makers than this one, or specialize in only their coffee or something else. Well, in my opinion, this thing is definitely a miss, not a hit… sorry 🤷♀️
The spout is too high up for espresso cups.
Embarrassing, time to call it a day my friend
