For anyone who was wondering, this song is not found in The Hobbit. It Is found in book 2 of The Fellowship of the Ring, chapter 4, A Journey In the Dark. Gimli sings it in response to Samwise Gamgee's referring to Moria as "darksome holes".
its a shame that elves will never understand how humiliating is a name moria for dwarves. for them its a dark place beneath the earth even tho Noldor are very much like them they did not nor do not understand what khazad-dum is for them
@@artraxofastora1330 It has been an incredibly long time but yeah. "Mordo" literally means "shadow" and "Mor" is an often used shorter version for names (think Mordor, which translates to "Shadow Land"), so elves calling it Moria is essentially calling it a place of darkness, when it is the Dwarf equivalent of Jerusalem. As you can imagine, that does not sit well.
I wrote this song especially for fans of the #Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings books and films. The lyrics are by JRR Tolkien himself! I hope you love it as much as I loved making it! Eurielle

A beautiful rendition of the words written so long ago by Tolkien. I can't imagine any better sound or composed verse for this song to be played by.. Stunning and wonderful

Bone chilling! Hey Eurielle, a bunch of people are asking for Thranduil but if you get time check out Beren and Luthien(from the Silmarillion). A million times more epic than Aragorn and Arwen and infinitely more tragic.
I don't know if you've ever heard Clamavi De Profundis' version that they wrote, but it's also really beautiful and very dwarf-music sounding (to my mind anyway). You folks would go great together on a collaboration, but also I just thought you'd really appreciate what they did for the original poem as well.
Every so often over the years, I come back to this song; and every time, it never ceases to bring tears to my eyes. Bless you, dear lady, and thank you.

Wow, this is just so amazing, Eurielle. I'm absolutely blown away by your talent! I had used Tolkien's lyrics to do my own song, but by gosh, I think the man himself would be mighty proud to have a talent like yourself bring such epicness to his lyrics. Great job, chills all over my body! :3
"There lies his crown in waters deep till Durin wakes again from sleep." I love this song, e especially the last two lines, they sound so mysterious...
I love this song so much! I listen to it so much. Your voice seems just so perfect for Middle-earth songs. I cannot wait to hear more of your music! I will definitely check out your CD later this year
As for another Middle-earth song, could you please do one for Thranduil (and maybe Legolas and his wife)? The Battle of the Five Armies just made me fall in love with the Elvenking. He's a good king even though he's been through so much suffering, and I think your voice would be perfectly suited for a song about him.
I wish you the best of luck in your future music endeavors. If Peter Jackson ever makes a movie about the Silmarillion or the War in the North (more Thranduil, yay!!) or anything middle-earth, you are my choice for end-credits singer! :) thank you for sharing your gift and honoring the Durins with your amazing talent.
Holly Kolberg Hi Holly, thank you so much for all your lovely comments! Regarding my next song and video, it looks like I'll be doing something for Thorin's funeral because I've had so many requests for that. However, I've also had loads of requests for Thranduil so its possible that I might do something for him too. Either way, I hope you like my next video, and you never know, if I can get enough views on my videos, there's a chance that PJ might see them and decide to use some of my music - that would be a dream come true for me!! Eurielle
I have adored both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings since I was child. The words that you sing are utterly beautiful, and your voice is so angelic and relaxing. I have listened to this nearly every day since you posted it. I love it. Thank you so much for sharing your gift.
This song and Lament For Thorin get me all emotional thinking about how all of the movies about Middle-Earth are pretty much done. :( But I love them, and I love how beautiful your singing is.
I just want to say I love your voice Eurielle, it's the most beautiful voice I have ever heard in my life. I stopped breathing when the music started. How beautiful is the lyric and how magnificent is your voice.
"I like that!" Said Sam. "I should like to learn it. _In Moria, in Khazad-dûm!_ But it makes the darkness seem heavier, thinking of all those lamps. Are there piles of jewels and gold lying about here still?" Gimli was silent. Having sung his song, he would say no more.
Not going to lie Eurielle, I came across this song after hearing Peter Hollens sing it.. And my god, you both sing this song so incredibly well it makes me tear up writing this. I pray for the day you both sing a song together, honest to god that will be the most anticipated thing for me in 2015. Please, PLEASE keep making beautiful music like this! You have the voice of an angel.
Sean Raus Hi Sean, Peter Hollens and I have been discussing a collaboration for a few weeks now. We are both very excited about working together, so watch this space...
Everything that man touched its absolute gold!!! The type of writing and mythology that is gone in entire world as I see it now!! Just grateful we have these!
You have a beautiful and gorgeous voice. It’s haunting to hear the song. You can feel the sadness the dwarves feel them trying to gain back there home.
This is truly beautiful work. I was brought up on Lord of the Rings, it was read to me since I was a baby, and I'd always wondered exactly how the songs should sound. The Song of Durin always appealed, as it's sad and mournful, but with a touch of defiant hope. To say you've done it justice is an understatment! "The shadow lies upon his tomb" gave me chills. It was like... seeing my old home. Finding old pictures of family. Familiarity and rightness. Thankyou.
your voice just cuts through reality, your voice tears the soul and sends it to dream. When I heard you standing in the courtyard of my house, I saw the wind whirring leaves on the trees, I could feel it on my face and on my open palms ... I saw how the moon was pouring down with its light, it's wonderful! Thank you
I saw this video recommended on the front of RUclips so I listened to this and ended up in tears. Why have I never heard of you before?! Your songs are amazing! You really remind me of Enya who has been a long favourite of mine. This song I love above all. You did The Hobbit and J.R.R. Tolkien great justice. I ask you to keep up this fabulous work - and I cannot wait to hear what you have next!
***** Hi, thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm really happy that you enjoyed this video and that you like the rest of my work too. To get a reaction like yours is a dream come true for me. I might be doing another video like this one soon - which Hobbit / LOTR character would you most like to see me take on next? P.S. I'll be releasing my album some time this year. Not sure exactly when yet, but I'll post the date on my social media as soon as I know. Hope you like that too! Happy New Year, Eurielle
EURIELLEMUSIC You are most welcome though I believe it is I who should be thanking you for such beautiful music. Choosing a character is a tough one. I think Thranduil would be an interesting one to do (of course, being a Middle-Earth lover as I am, any character would do - I am certain your song will turn out perfect) I shall be checking your site constantly for updates. I wish you likewise - Happy New Year, ~Sophie
***** I've had a few requests for Thranduil now so I suspect that he is going to clinch the vote! Hopefully you'll enjoy that video as much as this one... Speak soon, Eurielle
I just watched all of your hobbit videos and lord of the ring videos and I’m crying so much these are so sad but so beautiful and I cannot get enough of your voice
"Eurielle's voice reaches the depths of one's soul" is how I felt. Beautiful, beautiful. As a big fan of Tolkien's world, this was a compliment and joy to listen to.
Lyrics: A king he was on carven throne In many-pillared halls of stone With golden roof and silver floor And runes of power upon the door The light of sun and star and moon In shining lamps of crystal hewn Undimmed by cloud or shade of night There shone forever fair and bright The world is grey, the mountains old The forge's fire is ashen-cold No harp is wrung, no hammer falls The darkness dwells in Durin's halls The shadow lies upon his tomb In Moria, in Khazad-dûm But still the sunken stars appear In dark and windless Mirrormere There lies his crown in water deep Till Durin wakes again from sleep
Her voice is enchanting yet scares me as well, like the sound of calm water yet captivating like a wizard magic spell, there's a deep piece in her voice and at the same time, pulling me ever so slightly deep silence and utterly surprised
Four years later and this song still never fails to send chills down my spine. Beautiful voice and beautiful song. Thank you for all your hard work in putting these songs together.
Personally, I don't understand why people hate the Hobbit trilogy. Yes, it's not as good as the Lord of the Rings, but it's still the greatest cash grab trilogy ever made.
To all Lord of the Rings fans! Do we want this movie back in the theaters again? Do we want to feel they joy that we had back then? Do we want the nostalgia back in our souls? Do we want to make more people happy for what we have had back then? If The Titanic will reappear in 3D why not as well The Lord of the Rings? If you love this amazing movie, post it on every LOTR video to announce that this saga is NOT DEAD. IT SHALL NOT KNOW THIS TERM! Who is with me?COME, ON! LETS GET THIS THING ROLLING RIGHT NOW! SPREAD THE WORD! POST THIS EVERYWHERE SO EVERY TOLKIENITE MAY SEE IT! MIDDLE EARTH WILL SEE THEATERS AGAIN, ONE LAST TIME!! ps:this is not a comentary by me.
@@karayama100 the problem with trying to put the simarallion into a screen format is the amount of detail Tolkien put into it. Most of it will be cut out but you need that detail to fully understand everything.
I thought it was silly at first to put The Hobbit into three movies. And it could have been done shorter if some of the Added material was left out. The hounding of the dwarves by the orcs in the first movie was not Tolkien. I loved the goblin caves. But the scene with the dwarves in the trees should have been the goblins, not the orcs. And we could go on. Creative license and all but overall an enjoyable telling. But yes, I would love to see LOTR back in the theaters on one condition... It goes back in with the directors extended cut and all of the missing scenes that didn't make it into the theaters are added back in. Some of those scenes were extremely important in the books and cut out because they didn't add to the overall story in the cinematic version. For instance, Faramir and Eowyn in the house of healing. And the whispered prophecy moving through the healers in the books that the hands of the king would be the hands of a healer. Aragorn taking time to use King's Foil to treat Merry, Faramir and Eowyn was important. (It has been a long time since I read the books; was Merry even at the Battle of the Black Gate, for he suffered a similar wound as Eowyn for daring to strike the Witch King?) There was so much more filmed than made it into the theatrical versions. And I for one would love to see those on the big screen.
I was like ”ok I ´ve got through this ago, i am definitely not going to cry”, till the last verse “There lies his crown, in water deep till Durin wakes again from sleep.” That hit me right in da feels :(
Wow, the first thing I thought of when I heard your voice is that your voice is how I imagine an Elf singing the lays of legend in the halls of Rivendell. It is just beautiful.
I absolutely love this. The Hobbit is by far my favorite series and your wonderful voice brings this mystic song to life. I get chills every-time I listen to this. :)
The singing you have done in this video is utterly beautiful! Your voice transforms the world around me to a greater place---one of fantasy and heroism and wonder----and I find myself wishing the song to never end.
Dude, i'm a Tolkien fanatic and i felt the chills go down my spine. This piece of work is spot on and very well put together. I would like to thank you for this experience!
Had you auditioned or sent this to Peter Jackson before the films were over I'm sure you would have been able to get it into the movie because it is simply marvelous and so perfect for this series!! It's enchanting
Thank you! I've heard that Peter Jackson may actually be planning to make The Silmarillion into a film; if that turns out to be true, then I'll definitely try my best to get involved with that soundtrack! Eurielle
EURIELLE Simirillian will never happen. Jackson upset the remaining Tolkien family members so badly he isnt even allowed over for tea and scones. Which is a blessing in disguise given how he ruined the hobbit trilogy with his elf fetish and 'poetic license'
EURIELLE Unfortunately, Peter Jackson has said himself that no other movies will happen. It's a licensing issue. The Hobbit and LOTR were the only books sold for film rights. All other books are owned by the Tolkien Estate and not up for grabs. This is still such a great song though! You are an amazing artist!
Now this is the type of thing that I've been waiting for: fan-made compositions of songs written by Tolkien. Fantastic! I tried to do something like this in my head while reading Fellowship of the Ring, but ultimately they all ended up sounding the same.
EURIELLE Definitely, it's excellent! Fellowship happens to be my favorite novel. If you're planning to do any more, one song that I'd love to hear music for is the Song of Beren and Lúthien.

Beautiful. Exceptional. Should be part of official soundtrack for both movie trilogies. Giving me goosebumps every time I'm listening to it (which is every day).
Speechless, just speechless! This is the most beautiful song about Lord of the rings I have ever heard - not just the lyrics, but the way it was sang! You are really can enchant with your voice and I really hope you decide to do more Tolkien-inspired songs! Wish you all the best for future projects on any topics :))
noldor91 Thank you so much! Another Tolkien inspired song is definitely a possibility at some point, but I'm currently preparing to release my debut album so I'm very busy with that at the moment and it could be a few months before I have time to do another. Thank you for listening! Eurielle
EURIELLE oh please do it, your voice comes directly from the heaven you are entrancing, You do a great job and give sense and intensity to the words of Tolkienwhich are already precious. Please keep your fantastic work up!
The first one I swear the first time I heard it made me tear up. Her voice is so angelic it's hair raising. Beautiful music in the background music and her voice makes the movie more impacting and more marvelous I don't think it could be done any better.
Honest to the gods EURIELLE I was shaking listening to this. Now that I finally hear your version over Peter Hollens I can see the power of your original piece. Keep this magic coming!
Eurielle, I've never heard such a voice. truly beautiful and I get chills at the sound. I'll be listening to this through headphones before my cage fight. your voice puts me in a state of zen, I'm truly inspired. if you have a song similar to this about a warrior please let me know. I'll keep digging though.
When I first heard this song, I was moved to tears. I thought that was it, I was over it. I was wrong. The impact hasn't lessened. No matter how many times I listen, I am still moved to tears. This is something truly special that you've made.
OH. MY. GOSH. I am a huge LOTR/hobbit fan, and wow this gave me goosebumps! How did I not find this sooner?? Well anyways, I just wanted to say that Eurielle you have an amazing voice! Keep doing what you do because it's amazing!
Your singing voice is truly awe-inspiring. This video seemed to hold me in a trance, the perfect representation of myth and legend. Great work, much appreciated!
Woah i just can't get enought of this song ^^. I've grown up with the lord of the ring univers and this track just breathe middle earth. I can't thanks you enought for this song and the feelings it's giving me :) greetings from France and merci pour tout !
It's people like you who remind me to return to the realm of Middle Earth. However, this song reminds me of another battle fought at the gates of Erebor. During the days of Sauron, Easterlings laid siege to the city of Dale and the gates of Erebor. Too few know of the battle fought alongside the siege of Minas Tirith...
I can just imagine Tauriel singing this in honor of Kili. Your voice is absolutely angelic. Gives me chills every time! Thank you so much for this song!
The way she sings "In Moria, in Khazad-dum"...I have no words to describe what I feel in that moment
+Anja Klisaric true my friend I think I feel the same way

Wow, this is just so amazing, Eurielle. I'm absolutely blown away by your talent! I had used Tolkien's lyrics to do my own song, but by gosh, I think the man himself would be mighty proud to have a talent like yourself bring such epicness to his lyrics.
Great job, chills all over my body! :3
Jayhan Thank you, that's very kind of you to say so! Eurielle
Eurielle has the voice of an angel. This is absolutely beautiful.
When music, instruments and vocals, make you tear.
"There lies his crown in waters deep
till Durin wakes again from sleep."
I love this song, e especially the last two lines, they sound so mysterious...
This voice is exactly what Tolkien must have thought of when he wrote this masterpiece
Aww, thank you for this lovely comment!
"I like that!" Said Sam. "I should like to learn it. _In Moria, in Khazad-dûm!_ But it makes the darkness seem heavier, thinking of all those lamps. Are there piles of jewels and gold lying about here still?"
Gimli was silent. Having sung his song, he would say no more.
Goosebumbs 10/10 wish the hobbit movies could go on forever, but there is an end
Sean Raus I agree!
EURIELLE awesome
Everything that man touched its absolute gold!!! The type of writing and mythology that is gone in entire world as I see it now!! Just grateful we have these!
You have a beautiful and gorgeous voice. It’s haunting to hear the song. You can feel the sadness the dwarves feel them trying to gain back there home.
I really really REALLY want to hear you do a version of the full song. You have the perfect voice for it honestly.
Que talento, y que voz tan esplendorosa y divina, me quito el sombrero ante tal talento.
Thank you
Screw Skyrim, screw Game of Thrones, screw The Witcher, screw Narnia, and screw Warcraft, I'M GOING BACK TO MIDDLE EARTH!!!
back to the middle earth we shall go!
Abner _Mako Mea govannin mellon :)
Abner _Mako
Yeeessss!!!!!😃😃😃😃😃😃👍😃😃👍😃
Abner _Mako :-)
Misha Bredewold ,
We need this version on Spotify 😭
Happy New Year,
Eurielle
EURIELLEMUSIC You are most welcome though I believe it is I who should be thanking you for such beautiful music.
Choosing a character is a tough one. I think Thranduil would be an interesting one to do (of course, being a Middle-Earth lover as I am, any character would do - I am certain your song will turn out perfect)
I shall be checking your site constantly for updates.
I wish you likewise - Happy New Year,
~Sophie
***** I've had a few requests for Thranduil now so I suspect that he is going to clinch the vote! Hopefully you'll enjoy that video as much as this one...
Speak soon,
Eurielle
I just watched all of your hobbit videos and lord of the ring videos and I’m crying so much these are so sad but so beautiful and I cannot get enough of your voice
"Eurielle's voice reaches the depths of one's soul" is how I felt. Beautiful, beautiful. As a big fan of Tolkien's world, this was a compliment and joy to listen to.
I'm just gonna say that you the voice of an angel.
Lyrics:
A king he was on carven throne
In many-pillared halls of stone
With golden roof and silver floor
And runes of power upon the door
The light of sun and star and moon
In shining lamps of crystal hewn
Undimmed by cloud or shade of night
There shone forever fair and bright
The world is grey, the mountains old
The forge's fire is ashen-cold
No harp is wrung, no hammer falls
The darkness dwells in Durin's halls
The shadow lies upon his tomb
In Moria, in Khazad-dûm
But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere
There lies his crown in water deep
Till Durin wakes again from sleep
Her voice is enchanting yet scares me as well, like the sound of calm water yet captivating like a wizard magic spell, there's a deep piece in her voice and at the same time, pulling me ever so slightly deep silence and utterly surprised
I'm not crying, it's the onions... this is so beautiful, and I love your crystal-like voice!!
i'm gonna never stop listening to this song. it makes me feel high, different and so many feelings
I am with you. The Dwarves battling is an epic moment !!
+Team VLCN They are unconscious!!
+Jose Pablo Pérez Who?
All that they aren't like The hobbit Trilogy
Dion Schut
I disagree. Could there have been less CGI? Yes. But I still love it. If you don't, that's an opinion i disagree with, but it's yours.
That voice, that music...this is Galadriel-esque beauty.
This song makes me realize how amazing J.R.R. Tolkien really was to create such an extraordinary world!
Never have I heard harmony and melody together preformed so beautifully. You truly have a gift..
Your voice remembers me the folk singing of Ireland. So deep and beautiful. We must to save our european traditions. Congratulations❤
No, only talented careful screen version of whole Silmarillion will suffice even if takes 100 episodes!
Need a new story from Middle Earth
(It has been a long time since I read the books; was Merry even at the Battle of the Black Gate, for he suffered a similar wound as Eowyn for daring to strike the Witch King?)
There was so much more filmed than made it into the theatrical versions. And I for one would love to see those on the big screen.
hauntingly beautiful.....the glory of the dwarven people given voice, their sorrow and loss let loose upon the wind in somber notes...
I was like ”ok I ´ve got through this ago, i am definitely not going to cry”, till the last verse
“There lies his crown, in water deep
till Durin wakes again from sleep.”
That hit me right in da feels :(
Wow, the first thing I thought of when I heard your voice is that your voice is how I imagine an Elf singing the lays of legend in the halls of Rivendell. It is just beautiful.
She has one of the most angelic voices I have ever heard in my life.
I absolutely love this. The Hobbit is by far my favorite series and your wonderful voice brings this mystic song to life. I get chills every-time I listen to this. :)
Goodness, your voice is incredible! I could listen to this all day.
The singing you have done in this video is utterly beautiful! Your voice transforms the world around me to a greater place---one of fantasy and heroism and wonder----and I find myself wishing the song to never end.
Lovely interpretation of a Middle Earth classic. Durin would be proud, and so would Mahal and the Eldar.
Eurielle
I heard that as well, which would be a dream come true! And yes, I believe you have a great shot to get a song in the movie. Best of luck!!
EURIELLE
Simirillian will never happen. Jackson upset the remaining Tolkien family members so badly he isnt even allowed over for tea and scones. Which is a blessing in disguise given how he ruined the hobbit trilogy with his elf fetish and 'poetic license'
To each their own. I didn't agree with some of the things he did with the movie but I believe he still did a great movie trilogy.
I. Have. CHILLS.
You... Are... Simply astounding! My favorite hobbit song now...
Chris: Jedes mal eine Gänsehaut ... eines der besten Lieder die ich je gehört habe
Now this is the type of thing that I've been waiting for: fan-made compositions of songs written by Tolkien. Fantastic! I tried to do something like this in my head while reading Fellowship of the Ring, but ultimately they all ended up sounding the same.
Spar10Leonidas I'm so pleased you love this song. I read the song in the book and the music just came to me.
Dražen Matić
same...
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING VOICE !!!
I love it! It´s beautiful and gives me goosebumps everytime!
Eurielle sings like what I’d think an angel sounds like. Simply majestic.
The first one I swear the first time I heard it made me tear up. Her voice is so angelic it's hair raising. Beautiful music in the background music and her voice makes the movie more impacting and more marvelous I don't think it could be done any better.
2019 BRO, I love the feeling I get from this song.
Most majestic voice i've ever heard. No words can explain how i feel n u have my deepest respect EURIELEE
When I first heard this song, I was moved to tears. I thought that was it, I was over it. I was wrong. The impact hasn't lessened. No matter how many times I listen, I am still moved to tears. This is something truly special that you've made.
"the light of sun and star and moon" cant stop thinking about Fíli(sun), Kíli(star) and Thorin (moon)
OH. MY. GOSH. I am a huge LOTR/hobbit fan, and wow this gave me goosebumps! How did I not find this sooner?? Well anyways, I just wanted to say that Eurielle you have an amazing voice! Keep doing what you do because it's amazing!
At 0:40 her voice + the horns give me goosebumps everytimes!
This gave me chills from the first note to the last one. What a beautiful voice!
GORGEOUS! Wow, the vocals on this are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! So pure, so perfect. Well done!
Kurtsiecolferite S Thank you so much. Eurielle x
Your singing voice is truly awe-inspiring. This video seemed to hold me in a trance, the perfect representation of myth and legend. Great work, much appreciated!
+Aniket Sandal Thank you! I have been really taken aback (and humbled) by how people have fallen in love with this song! Eurielle x
This is such a beautiful song, your voice is spectacular! The song makes me so sad, it's very bittersweet. Keep up the amazing work!
This is an amazing song the first time I heard in the movie I loved it.
I just love the way she sings "undimmed by cloud or shade of night" ❤ what a beautiful/touching voice!
Woah i just can't get enought of this song ^^. I've grown up with the lord of the ring univers and this track just breathe middle earth. I can't thanks you enought for this song and the feelings it's giving me :) greetings from France and merci pour tout !
I can't stop listening to it! So beautiful.
Thank you +Peter Hollens for guiding me to this channel! I can't wait for you and Peter to work together! You both sound so amazing on this song!
This song gives me chills with how smooth it sounds. I'm so stunned and in love, I think I'm gonna cry. Definitely a new favorite of mine.
I can just imagine Tauriel singing this in honor of Kili. Your voice is absolutely angelic. Gives me chills every time! Thank you so much for this song!
So brilliant voice . Seems like a voice of the humanity.
