    'Song Of Durin' - Lyrics (in this video):
    A king he was on carven throne
    In many-pillared halls of stone
    With golden roof and silver floor,
    And runes of power upon the door.
    The light of sun and star and moon
    In shining lamps of crystal hewn
    Undimmed by cloud or shade of night
    There shone for ever fair and bright.
    The world is grey, the mountains old,
    The forge's fire is ashen-cold;
    No harp is wrung, no hammer falls:
    The darkness dwells in Durin's halls;
    The shadow lies upon his tomb
    In Moria, in Khazad-dûm.
    But still the sunken stars appear
    In dark and windless Mirrormere;
    There lies his crown in water deep,
    Till Durin wakes again from sleep.

    For anyone who was wondering, this song is not found in The Hobbit. It Is found in book 2 of The Fellowship of the Ring, chapter 4, A Journey In the Dark. Gimli sings it in response to Samwise Gamgee's referring to Moria as "darksome holes".

      its a shame that elves will never understand how humiliating is a name moria for dwarves. for them its a dark place beneath the earth even tho Noldor are very much like them they did not nor do not understand what khazad-dum is for them

    • @Zarkarin
      @Zarkarin Год назад +19

      @@artraxofastora1330 It has been an incredibly long time but yeah. "Mordo" literally means "shadow" and "Mor" is an often used shorter version for names (think Mordor, which translates to "Shadow Land"), so elves calling it Moria is essentially calling it a place of darkness, when it is the Dwarf equivalent of Jerusalem. As you can imagine, that does not sit well.

      Eurielle would not have been born yet. Tolkien was an older gentleman before his death.
      But yes, he really would!
      I think on the Old Documentary of J. R. R. Tolkien said he knew when he was dying,
      and he decided to ask a friend of his who Tolkien taught Elvish Language to do a
      Funeral Chant in the Elvish Language at his Funeral. They actually recorded it on an
      old video on the same Documentary.
      It was a beautiful language.
      "It began with the Forging of the Great Rings...
      3 were given to the Elves : Immortal, Wisest, and Most Beautiful of all Beings; who were Great Allies of the
      Race of Men...
      7 to the Dwarf Lords : Living in their Mountain Halls; they were the Greatest of all Miners, and Craftsmen...
      and 9 Were given to Great Kings of the Race of Men; whom all 9... only desired Power.
      Within these Rings was the Power to Govern each Race."

      I thought it was silly at first to put The Hobbit into three movies. And it could have been done shorter if some of the Added material was left out. The hounding of the dwarves by the orcs in the first movie was not Tolkien. I loved the goblin caves. But the scene with the dwarves in the trees should have been the goblins, not the orcs. And we could go on. Creative license and all but overall an enjoyable telling.
      But yes, I would love to see LOTR back in the theaters on one condition... It goes back in with the directors extended cut and all of the missing scenes that didn't make it into the theaters are added back in. Some of those scenes were extremely important in the books and cut out because they didn't add to the overall story in the cinematic version. For instance, Faramir and Eowyn in the house of healing. And the whispered prophecy moving through the healers in the books that the hands of the king would be the hands of a healer. Aragorn taking time to use King's Foil to treat Merry, Faramir and Eowyn was important. (It has been a long time since I read the books; was Merry even at the Battle of the Black Gate, for he suffered a similar wound as Eowyn for daring to strike the Witch King?)
      There was so much more filmed than made it into the theatrical versions. And I for one would love to see those on the big screen.

    the hobbit was the first book i was able to read on my own as a child. the dwarves of the lord of the rings became stuck with me, the lore, the history, the names and storys burned in my heart and helped me through some dark times.
    and now comes this song and makes me cry. i dont know if i should curse or thank you, but i think i´ll favour the latter one ;)

    Lyrics:
    A king he was on carven throne
    In many-pillared halls of stone
    With golden roof and silver floor
    And runes of power upon the door
    The light of sun and star and moon
    In shining lamps of crystal hewn
    Undimmed by cloud or shade of night
    There shone forever fair and bright
    The world is grey, the mountains old
    The forge's fire is ashen-cold
    No harp is wrung, no hammer falls
    The darkness dwells in Durin's halls
    The shadow lies upon his tomb
    In Moria, in Khazad-dûm
    But still the sunken stars appear
    In dark and windless Mirrormere
    There lies his crown in water deep
    Till Durin wakes again from sleep

      Simirillian will never happen. Jackson upset the remaining Tolkien family members so badly he isnt even allowed over for tea and scones. Which is a blessing in disguise given how he ruined the hobbit trilogy with his elf fetish and 'poetic license'

    • @LindonLeaf
      @LindonLeaf 9 лет назад +4

      To each their own. I didn't agree with some of the things he did with the movie but I believe he still did a great movie trilogy.

    • @taylormedley8636
      @taylormedley8636 9 лет назад

      EURIELLE Unfortunately, Peter Jackson has said himself that no other movies will happen. It's a licensing issue. The Hobbit and LOTR were the only books sold for film rights. All other books are owned by the Tolkien Estate and not up for grabs. This is still such a great song though! You are an amazing artist!

    It’s brilliant that this fiction blends into the old Norse culture and even writing so well that the poignancy of the impermanence is the heart of this music.

      As for another Middle-earth song, could you please do one for Thranduil (and maybe Legolas and his wife)? The Battle of the Five Armies just made me fall in love with the Elvenking. He's a good king even though he's been through so much suffering, and I think your voice would be perfectly suited for a song about him.

    This is truly beautiful work. I was brought up on Lord of the Rings, it was read to me since I was a baby, and I'd always wondered exactly how the songs should sound. The Song of Durin always appealed, as it's sad and mournful, but with a touch of defiant hope. To say you've done it justice is an understatment! "The shadow lies upon his tomb" gave me chills. It was like... seeing my old home. Finding old pictures of family. Familiarity and rightness. Thankyou.
