Creative possibilities abound in these 3D embossing folder cards, and it is thrilling to try different techniques with these thicker folders that hold more depth. Typically, when you add color to an embossing folder, you apply it to the embossed (raised) side, but today, I’m going to show you the magic of applying ink to the de-bossed side of the cardstock. It’s a ton of fun to break the traditional rules….just wait and see!
For today's card selection, I've opted for the stunning New Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder - its beauty is truly captivating! To bring this design to life, gather some Basic White Cardstock, your favorite Ink Pads, a 3D Embossing Folder, and a set of Blending Brushes. Trust me, once you start exploring these creative possibilities, you might just find yourself hooked on these crafting ideas!

I found a RUclips video for using the Big Shot with 3D embossing folders. She suggested to make a shim using cheap card stock from Michael’s. Base plate, 3-4 sheets of card stock, 3D embossing folder, last the top cutting plate. It works. I have the Big Shot.

Beautiful cards! I have some older, thicker 3D embossing folders that didn’t work with plate one and Four in the Stamping up machine. I googled it and plate one and one of the plate 3s does work with those embossing folders ❤

Thank you Sharon for sharing these gorgeous projects. The layered florals 3d embossing folder is beautiful. Really love the one with coloured flowers on debossed side then black ink applied over top. I have this embossing folder, now I can have a play with it.

Hi Sharon, Great video. I saw this technique with Tina Zinck, but you have added additional ideas. I agree …so fun! Thanks for sharing all of your ideas. I don’t have the new folder …YET! I used an old one … Country Floral Dynamic Textured Impressions. It , too, makes a beautiful card. We did a technique similar to this years ago. So glad to see it again. Hope your arm is better soon. Loved this technique. Does it only work with the 3D embossing folders? Or will it work also with the other ones?
I did try it on a regular embossing folder. While its not as bold it still works! Have fun playing with this technique

You are adding the Memento Ink to the Debossed side which is the back side.
I saw Tina zinc from Nova Scotia. I think that’s where she’s from Canada somewhere do the same technique and I think it’s so much fun. I love doing it.
I LOVE Tina! I did not see her version (but I will go watch!). I wish I had written down who I saw share. I do know that several have shared this technique and added our own twist to it!

Have you Sharon, or anyone else had a problem with the edge of your ink pad tear off when wiping it accross the debossed side of the c/s? My brand new Summer Splash tore off yesterday during class! Please advise. Watching video again to check as to which side you use when wiping the pad accross. I just rewatched your video when you used the Orchid Oasis pad. I did it the same way as you did but the edge rolled right off my Summer Splash ink pad.:0
I have not had that happen. What type of pad do you have? Summer Splash isn't a color of Stampin Up! Their pads are foam.
Summer Splash is one of the New 2024-2026 New In Colors. It was the foam pad that tore the entire edge off.
Can the SU 3-D embossing folders be used with the Big Shot die cutting machine? If yes, do you have instructions? New to all this cardmaking stuff and a friend gave me a Big Shot.

Create paper shims with cheap card stock. 3-4 pieces. Use the shims in place of the bottom cutting plate.
At the beginning of the video i talked about the sandwich for The big shot. Perhaps you missed that?

Great question! I just tried it and yes you can! It is not as detailed as a 3D Embossing folder but it does work! Thanks for asking that question!
