They would have to go through the effort to edit the special. Then they might just as well release it. The reaction seems like a cool idea, but not really practical. The boys prefer quality for TT and reacting to stuff isn't the best content.
good on them. trying out different ideas require lots of risk. some can be extremely good, but some can’t be entertaining enough to be as a TT special. gotta appreciate the efforts and thinking that was put into all of the content that we watch
Thank you for uploading this, I didn’t know there is a kendo special that is scrapped, and allow me to understand that there are many things behind the scene that is essential to a great production
TBH I see how a Kendo special would be boring. I'd tried kendo for a couple months (I have to quit as I moved too far away from the dojo) and seeing how rigid the sport is, and how long they train you on the basics before you get to hit each other with sticks (by the time I left I haven't actually played in an actual match, all I did was practicing swings on the instructors), it would be EXTREMELY boring to watch a 1-2 hour special of the boys just learning the basics.
Totally agree. Kendo is fun but you need a lot of time to earn it and even if the boys got to a point where they enjoyed it, its really difficult to make it a video that everyone can enjoy.
It depends you can watch other youtuber trying out kendo for the first time and they skip a lot of steps like they teach them the basic and give it a go. I think the more likely scenario is that their just bad at it when talking about those trying out kendo videos I meantion they usually have some experience in martial arts already so the transition to other sword skills would be easier. so 3 dudes just swinging swords randomly most likely just doesn't look good.
I feel like something as involved as a martial arts special would require them to actually train for a longer period of time, like at the very least a month or two, and they could make the whole thing like a shonen training montage with banter in between and maybe them talking about what they are doing at an izakaya after a day's training. They could have different teachers and they could train both together and separately with their teachers, and the special would show how much (if at all) they evolve during the time. At the end, they would compete with each other, and it would be as much the different teachers competing with each other in how much they can drill into a bunch of inept weebs in a few weeks as the BOIS competing amongst themselves. Obviously this is much more work and much more expensive, but I really don't think there is a good way to make a TT special on martial arts in a single day.
Garnt explained this way better, from a more pragmatic and work based perspective. Connor made it seem like it was only vaguely not up to their standards but still like something we might want to see.
It’s literally impossible to get a good specials worth of content in 3 hours is impossible. I was once on set with this time limit and it was terrible, everyone is just super stressed.
Would be cool if they could one day remake this special, kendo just feels like it could been great but having such a short time definitely play against their style
I'm still waiting (probably in vain) for a shogi tournament arc. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I've seen at least Connor express reluctance at the idea so it probably won't happen, but a man can hope!
After 9 Years of Kendo i can see why it would be boring, the first time you learn Kendo, for a year you only learn the basic swings and if you can to do them somwhat ok you go in too amor and have start all over. So in 3 hours you can do only do so much
I hope they remake it with a better location that would give them more time and actually have the freedom to talk and make the session entertaining. The place they went to probably didn't understand what they're really trying to do and thought they just wanted to film their first kendo experience, so all what was given to them was three hours of nothing but lessons.
As much as I agree that it would probably not be the absolute most enjoyable special I feel like youtubers underestimate how much their viewers are willing to put up with
What you are talking about is a "fan". An average viewer having little to no knowledge about the channel would not care and click off, and these specials are called "special" for a reason, if you are wasting alot time shooting, making appointment but if the payback is low, you are the one losing money, quality content = views and payoff. But as he said, the quality was not good and rather than wasting time, the project was let off Thats how i see it
