You said it perfectly, this isn't a redemption story. Rudy isn't trying to right his wrongs and neither is the story. There also isn't much to redeem, he was a disgusting person but he never actually hurt anyone in his old life. Rudy is trying to fix his past regrets and live a fulfilling life. Mostly having to do with putting effort into this life and not do things he knows he will regret.
@@bituinl That's not a canon event. And yes, it's disgusting, but it isn't something that can be redeemed. He could stop being a pervert, but that doesn't redeem his past.
@@bituinl You'll need to be a bit more precise with your choice of words, because I could not have guessed that was what you meant. If I understand it right you mean he can't fix his perversion? Or do you mean that specific incident? Either way I disagree with the thought that he can't change because it's a mental issue. Mental health issues don't appear out of nowhere and while it's difficult and can take a long time they can be cured.
I think the important thing about anime is that it's not for everyone and should not be for everyone. Gatekeeping is important to keep fiction being eroded away by people who don't like media in it's natural form. Globalization or making something for everyone can limit the storytelling of media. Target markets are important for a reason.
1000% agree with you. We need to bring back gatekeeping. I like variety in my series. Mushoku has a more visceral and mature vibe to it that I really like. It has a raw-ness to it that separates it from the other sea of isekai and I rather enjoy it that way. That is why it was considered one of the isekai goats when it was just a novel.
One of Mushoku Tensei's strongpoints is the fact that it makes it very clear that Rudeus was an awful person in his past life. That makes his growth as a person throughout the story even more apparent. People feel salty because they want a hollow self-insert for power fantasy and not a flawed character who is human.
People seem to forget that he was in the body of a child and was affected by hormones And he was straight up offered Eris in episode 8 too Ye by definition u could consider him a pedo if u add both his ages together(44 when 10 in new world) Hes just attracted to people the same age as his body Which is fair But honestly u shouldnt except idiots to think about it for a second but even if they do Theyll probably never admit theyre wrong bc it hurts their ego He doesnt start to become a good person untill after Eris leaves Edit: He also doesnt do anything past over the top perverted acts without consent
I think the vast majority of people like Rudy. It's why this story is very popular. Now sure a lot of people who dislike him but most are not into the series or in my opinion are very SJW types to begin with.
I think all these criticisms would not be valid at all if Ruedus just wasn't a recriminated in a child body as a 40 year old man. I wish the author made him way younger definitely in the 14 or 15 when he got recriminated for me it just made me feel uncomfortable with him looking at his mom boobs and putting underwear on his head people are going to argue that he is a child cause of his life circumstances that led him to this new world he is in and how he got reincarnated but it definitely doesn't feel like a child at all.
the general audience is simply not used with rudeus' progression as a character. most stories tackle a character's development starting from being [ average ] -- to -- [ achiever ] level, which usually resolves to being heroic or just ambitious. mushoku tensei did not advance rudeus maturity this way, the guy literally went from [ immature/disgusting/borderline criminal ] -- to -- [ somewhat mature for an adult ] way throughout the story, which, to be honest, is not something i am a fan of.
I like mt now didn't used to like it at first but rudeus grew with us and now I finished the novel it was peak still rudeus do some questionable things and practices. But still mt potrait perfectly how the world would work under these conditions that they have the world build is amazing diffrent country having diffrent languages, proper power scale I like how nerf rudy with not giving him haki
I think the controversy is just there for the sake of it, anime fans need to pick a lane and stay in it: we all watched aot (SPOILERS) and didn't say anything bad about eren after he kills 80% of the worlds population, but anime fans are gonna complain about a guy getting reincarnated and living his life, coz he's a bit of a pervert by todays standard? Not all places share the same beliefs or thoughts, and to act like a saint because you say "listen to me, hey i think this is bad, listen to me" just because it conflicts with your 21st century world view, is nothing but whining for praise
Oh no, how dare the author write problematic, realistic, characters with flaws and issues, why isn't everyone just perfect? Hikikomori people are a very big issue in Japan, over 1.5% of the population is one, mostly young men, between 18-30, anime otaku culture can also be really problematic and creepy. Society has f-ed these people over and abandoned them, I wonder why the author chose to write about such a problematic person ... In his own darn words when asked if he went too far with Rudy: I think the balance was right. Because he's a controversial character, his mountain of regrets makes the act of redoing life more meaningful. Of course, I have no issue with criticizing Rudeus at the beginning stage, and it's up to you to decide whether you don't want to see the story because of that. With that said, if there's someone like Rudeus close to you and that person were to have even a slight change of heart and try to start over, I sincerely hope that you won't abandon them on the spot.
LN and Manga been around since past 10 years and nothing happens Anime comes out.. does well and reaches western audience and all of a sudden they have a problem Every 2 post I see there always these female in their mid 30s telling if you watch this you have a serious issue of p-e-d-o and should not watch it. Well, he might not hurt anyone (besides himself) but he did disappointed his family, which is why they kicked him out. That's not really to far off.
Technically he did recording his young niece showering. Disgusting.

I love Rudeus's character development. I'm glad he's turning his life around and I'm glad he's eventually going to live a fufilling life.
Tbf tho
The cheating is a lil scummy
The disingenuous bad faith arguments against this show get so old. They are missing out on an amazing story
Let them be, they don't deserve peak.
I think its one of the best isekai to be honest. Especially the novel.
Argument, not arguments.
There is literally only one thing MT haters say. Literally one.
