    Academy Award winner Gary Oldman talked to BBC Radio 1's Ali Plumb earlier this year about taking on the role of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. He reveals how much he enjoyed playing the iconic figure, how he avoided a bad Churchill impersonation, and the trials of the hours of make-up.

    That's precisely what is amazing about Gary Oldman, you don't see an actor portraying a character, instead you see the character and later on you remember that it's being portrayed by him. Just, incredible.

      Well said. I personally believe that outside of Daniel Day Lewis(who is just on a level all his own), Gary Oldman’s attention to detail and ability to capture the character and personality of a non-fictional character is second to none

    How can you hate this guy? Humble, Witty and Charming. Obviously, his acting skills are impeccable. diCaprio and sometimes Bale have shadowed many careers under their towering performances. This guy is just amazing. But deep down we all know Gary Oldman is the greatest living actor, probably of all time.

    To be honest, Gary Oldman should've won an Oscar years ago. In 2018, that should've been his second Oscar. I think he should've won an Oscar for True Romance. That's his best performance of all time, IMO.

    • @kubarobebeka
      @kubarobebeka 3 года назад +4

      His first Oscar should have been for "Sid and Nancy" or for "Prick up your ears"... or for his marvelous Jackie Flannery in "State of grace"... or for "JFK" and "Dracula"... now I come to think he should have had at least 5 oscars till now 🤔😊

    This is a brilliant interview. Between Ali not feeling the need to continually interrupt or immediately fill any pause with noise and Gary Oldman being able to articulate his craft on such a finely detailed level is the type of thing that I would pay to see on a larger scale.

    Those naysayers who say Oldman's Churchill didn't look and sound like the real one should watch this. He's talking about how he "interpreted" the man based on a thorough research, deliberately avoiding a "bad impression"

      I actually thought it would be really cool to edit these movies together, so in addition to the three plotlines of Dunkirk, you have the British government trying to solve this situation as well. It would be an interesting experiment, that's for sure.

    It took an Englishman to teach everyone how to win an Oscar hands down, without vile language, guns, violence, rape, drug usage.

    • @LittleB2007
      @LittleB2007 6 лет назад +8

      It's more like how to win one without playing physically disabled, mentally challenged, psychopath criminal, terminally ill, gay or alcoholic roles. The lead actor category is the worst: from 1988 on, lead actor Oscar went to those roles 9 years in a row. Another five since 2008.

    There is a story about Churchill. He was at a party and was quite drunk. He went up to a female guest and blurted out, "Are you ever ugly!"
    She replied, "Sir, you are drunk."
    He answered, "Yes madam, but in the morning, I won't be drunk, but you will still be ugly."
    Not a very nice man.

    Churchill may be a great man for british people but he was a murderer who let 40000 bengali die in drought , Gandhi ji requested him to lower the taxes and provide them needful support but he refused that .... People of india were dying and soldiers of Churchill were busy in collecting taxes from those people . If you don't believe it please google it .
