He plays this piece with such precision. This is a super hard piece and he makes it look easy. Idk how people can dislike this music when it takes sooooooo much more talent and timing than music today.
This piece is an absolutely perfect study for the right hand for classical guitar when played in A major. Mr. Maisky's accents and phrasing are also the best I've heard, and if you are studying this on any instrument, you will want to pay close attention to his precision.
Throughout my time of learning this movement, I heard and looked up to other interpretations, but after hearing Maisky’s, I’m sold. Many others play it exactly as it is written, but he knows that these are dances not études. Yes his fingerings are unusual, but they’re perfectly tasteful as they were chosen to avoid unwanted color/timbre changes due to string crossing - which is a perfect example of Bach performance practice.
One of the things that I like about Maisky is that all of his interpretations of these suites is that his way of playing them gives them a common ground, whereas the individual pieces are quite different from each other and are very individualistic.
Cap'n Skyfall try to pick one note on each triplet and play it longer than the other two, then alternate to the second or third note and play those longer, and keep going in that cycle and when you put it all together and play them all the same length of time (like you would normally play it) it will sound a lot cleaner.
Rostropovich's interpretation doesn't sound like a Gigue at all. Too much legato, a Gigue isn't supposed to flow, it has to be jumpy and pointy. I've never heard of Maiski until today, but I think he's doing a great job in showing us what a Gigue is supposed to sound like. If you look at what the dance steps look like, you will understand that Rostropovich's rendition has missed the point entirely. It may sound nice, but it's not a Gigue.
Yes its hard on the double bass you have to play it an octave higher and play a lot of over tunes also the bowing makes it difficult i recommend playing it on the cello not the bass Rostropovich describe it as being the toiler of Bach so that means its not easy

Yes. I have watched them all in order so far. I absolutely love this man's performances. And Bach is simply beautiful.

I would say Rostropovich's interpretation is better but this is still great
