2:39 la façon dont Bach (magnifiquement aidé de Maisky) fait peu à peu dérailler cette sorte de moto perpetuo qu est le prélude, est tout simplement admirable.
I like this interpretation of the prelude better than Yo Yo Ma's. As good as Ma is, I think his version is a little too choppy, and his base notes overdone. Maisky's long-bowing, I think, fits the piece better, and his base notes are more even with the rest. Both cellists have amazing technique; but I give Maisky a lot of credit. I've read that some criticize him for too much vibrato, but I think it sweetens the suites.
I like the Bach suites more romanticized like Maisky plays them. Historically, Ma's interpretation is definitely more accurate to the time the suites were composed, but it's just too vanilla for me. I definitely took inspiration from Maisky when I played the 4th on marimba.
@@KrumpulousYou played it on the marimba? Is that common in the repertoire? It just sounds like it’d be a really cool time, especially in Maiskys style
sim, só não curto muito certos improvisos fora do original q ele faz... já vi improvisos em cima de Bach q realmente ficaram bons, mas os dele destoam um pouco. Minha opinião.
Sorry, but IMHO this version, starting with the Prelude, is overdone. Starker's performance on Mercury has better tempos and impulse, though a very early recording of the 4th Suite by Starker (I believe it was on Period Records) was lighter and much faster- and I found validity to that interpretation as well, as it can be argued that this prelude is in fact a toccata. At least, that's my opinion for what it's worth (or not).

Mischa Maisky's version sounds 'right' to me, full of emotion and tenderness, not only about the technique.
A lovely interpretation of this beautiful piece, Mischa is a true master.
His cello suite no.1 is unbelievable he really is a master
Pure beauty of long legato notes. Love his detached notes in Courante..

Perfect 👌🎻☺️. Thank you for sharing.🙏

Increible interpretación de Mischa.
Mstislav Rostropóvich, Jaqueline Du Pre and Mischa Maisky. My three favorite ❤️
I love them... But also Daniil Shafran!
Jaqueline Du Pre, Daniil Shafran!
Sound so good …. Les graves sont magnifiques

Yo-Yo Ma sucks.

A lot of technique and interpretation comparing comments here. I'm just lucky to have so many great artists with different flavors to listen to.
What a cool bowing never thought of that

This performance is very xdd
Prelude too much slow: you lose the two melodic lines that alternate along the movement.

Starker is a master but maisky plays like no one with something really unic ( sorry for my english)
Lucy Swarts is the world's best, inmediately folloed by Misha Maisky. PERIOD
Please at least attempt to offer some objective basis for your rant that this, including the prelude, is "overdone." Your ipse dixit isn't enough.
I feel the prelude is overdone too. But that's about it.
This is fine cello playing, but Bachology it is not.
Did you put an announcement in the middle of the prelude?
Dislike.
You can listen to this priceless music for free, so why on earth would you dislike it, especially because of an inconvenience so trivial!
@Orlando: agreed. The "Bachology" channel is greedy and pulled a d!ck move by embedding these with ads.
@@prometheusrex1 Just use a free ad-blocker if it's that big of an inconvenience; some people need income, though.

Love Maisky but I am not a fan of changing what Bach did. It doesn't even sound good.
Changing what Bach did? Have you seen the manuscripts from Anna Magdalena? They're pretty bare bones
hahaha wtf
What a shame, this music can make you go deaf
