Best episode of Scared Straight ever. Ain't no way them dudes wanna go back there, sharing a cell with Louis .

Ice Cold Theroux and Theroux.
Louis Theroux has a talent in responding to situations that is both respectful and undermining.
But it comes from genuine curiosity. You can't be mad at that. Plus the cameras give them that extra security haha
Its cos he's generally interested and doesn't judge
His questions is to make them think, and get to the center of why they think a certain way
I love how he’s able to ask a genuine question that kind of forces them to answer such a simple question in a way that makes them feel a bit stupid.
He's English 🤣 that's what we do
Louis' answer 'what do you think?' in that situation was pure genius
Yup. Either yes or no can be interpreted really poorly.

hes on the outside looking in, the C.O's are right there.
This doco was actually the one that struck him the hardest in his 20-odd yr career. He was so shocked at how inmates are essentially allowed to beat each other up still and there is not intervention to prevention it
I dated a bimbo from Nashville. She was lazy and completely uninterested in prisoner safety. One little 21 year old girl with 35 male prisoners in a pod. What kind of intervention would you expect?

Also he kinda tested the inmate who clearly has done time and could snap or do some crazy shit.... respect to ya Louis
Who else wants to see Louis throw down with one of them. Haha maybe the smallest one
Huh? What i wouldnt say shaken, more less surprised by the random burst of confidence. I would 100% disagree that louis tested the inmate in any way. The only testing I saw was when louis interviewed the top bunk mane basically asking him if he was soft kuz he on top bunk😂

I know this isn't really important, but it would actually be "Louis's" because you only omit the last S if the first S was for a plural. IE: if there's multiple Joes it would be Joes', but if theres just one Lewis it would be Lewis's.
Just an interesting point my old English teacher who was a Latin professor used to tell us
Joe JJJ ahhh, noted. Seems your English teacher was better than mine.
@@joejjj4378 Actually, both are accepted as correct now. It depends on the teacher or the professor as well, as mine would use Louis's and he'd prefer if everyone used it but he won't be deducting marks for it and won't mark it as mistake if we use ' only. I prefer using only the 'after s and would let my students know that but it's their choice and I can't correct them or mark it as wrong if they use what they prefer.

Ok, thanks. I'm from England so didn't know what the reason was for not wanting the top bunk.
Tbh this makes a much better show than something like beyond scared straight, because this seems to actually show how it really is. Not saying all the bad shit they say in beyond scared straight isn't true, but they don't tell you about any unspoken rules or anything like that, they just try to intimidate.
This show seems more informational.
That's why in most prisons the soap is liquid soap, in dispensers, instead of bar soap. Plus liquid soap, makes good "lube".
It's fascinating what he said about being beaten until something breaks in the person and they either accept their place and become a bitch or fight back and maybe get killed or maybe get a little respect. Having to have that front up constantly must be exhausting.

Our Louis can fight. Don’t be fooled by the calm exterior, Louis is a tough cookie. You all better watch out for our Louis xx
The amount of dangerous and terrifying situations that Louis has willingly put himself iton, there is no doubt whether he is real or not.
I feel this underscores something I think humans have known for a long time.
Unless the prison makes an effort towards rehabilitation, it will teach criminals how to be criminals... not how to be members of society.
And by 'a long time', I mean at least since the penning of Les Miserables.
I referred to the novel. Although it feels weird calling it a novel.
fleeb 💯 correct
That’s what prison does not rehab
They've tried to rehab prisoners. It's a joke it don't work. Best rehab is time and lots of it. Men tend to grow out of their violent ways as they get older testerone levels go down etc. Not many 50 year old gang bangers out there.
Prisons know that already, they want to keep their customers coming back
The Code...There is but only one code, which dominates the streets, the prison , the society and even the nature. The Strong control the weak, they profit over them, they blackmail and hurt them and eventually kill them, either for selfish reasons, for survival or even for fun! Between these guys, respect is equal to the amount of fear/strength that you can generate, the more intimadating you are the better life and so called respect you will have. Make no mistake, there is no "real" respect even among the top guys, only fear makes them co-exist. They talk about loyalty to your race, honour, no snitching but they are almost always ready to rat for an opportunity and to do business with other gangs. Money has no race even if they're whole body is full of rasist tattoos. There is a ierharchy among demons, where the stronger demon tries to make the weaker demon's life as worse as he can, without any drop of mercy. This philosophy aplies to any gang or even corporation, where the weak has to do a hard job and gets paid with pretty much nothing , and the strong get to command and reiceive everything. And people say the Devil does not exist...
The dad from thats so raven at the end
When he starting stuttering I laugh hard just like that other prisoner 🤣
What do you think?
Bro 3:04 was like a movie moment or something. You can tell dude would probably make a decent actor just being himself
As somebody who has just served 4 years in a British prison, I can say that our prisons are very different. Don’t get me wrong, these issues are still present but the officers are much more involved and stop a lot of this sort of self-policing.
It's not that the officers are more involved. It's that the ratio of inmate to CO is absolutely insane. You'll get years for small drug violations here. They need to keep people in prison to get that sweet sweet money. All it comes down to is prison population.
@@davedanger4414it’s nothing to do with UK prisons are strict or they need to keep people in prison to make money etc they’d give people longer sentences if that was the case. in the US most these guys are doing life without the possibility of parole. In the UK even murderers could be out in 20 years with good behaviour so it’s a completely different dynamic when in the US most these guys have nothing to lose and that drives them to behave completely different. In the UK you could murder a child and still be out in 20-30 years in the US they’ll give you 300 years for drug offences, non lethal violence, robberies..
@@karlali7155 He is specifically talking about why US prisons let the inmates sort of "police" themselves. And why the officers aren't more involved. In federal prison, the inmates outnumber them 10 to 1. That's the main issue. If it was 2 to 1 or something, then a lot of the violence would be curbed. Simple as that.
