My dad has a similar car with 233K miles on it and it still pulls like a train!! we have owned it for 70K miles now and All we have changed is turbo, starter, alternator and clutch.....Key to this engine is keep the crankcase breather clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This particular engine was condemned by BMW for turbo frailer at 159K miles, yet it was just a blocked crankcase filter, where the turbo finally failed at 217k miles.....LOL
I recommend Mahle Original filters. I have seen tests carried out on various brands and Mahle Original came out on top with the best filter properties while still providing a good flow. Also Mahle Original filters always supply all O-rings.
AMSOIL and Royal Purple Synthetic ones are 10x better but 5x more expensive. But both MAHLE and MANN filters are OK. That BOSCH is exactly manufactured by MANN.
Mahle only supplies the exact same O-ring as Bosch and MANN for this engine. So far I've not seen any manufacturer to provide the other O-rings as well.
Thanks George. Mannol sent me some engine flush when I bought some oil, and I didn't quite know what to do! I have the M47 in a 2007 320d, and this is spot on. Cheers.
If you go to real OEM it gives you the O ring sizes, you can then buy them individually for a few pence each. One of the ones on my car was damaged and of course the filter came without them. Luckily Screwfix had some of the correct size.
It may not be a good idea to flush the engine when you don't know the history of oil changes etc. Nowadays there are some thin canals and tiny holes in the engines, so it's difficult to say what can happen. May be it would be interesting to check the oil filter after a short period of time. Another thing related to the installing of the n47 engine. (I checked a number of videos lately! Very informative, and also entertaining/relaxing.) You had some problems to get the engine fire up... A friend of mine said that you can use a service program to fill the pipe system with diesel. He thought BMW has a pump in the tank and you have to start it first, then you wait till you have full pressure. Then you press the start button. The high pressure in the common rail pipe will be built up in very short time that's why the engine fire up immediately more or less.
Wow your not kidding about the thing needing more oil than you think. These bmw dipsticks can be very hard to read. I thought I had put enough in, granted my street isnt very level, but it looked approximately correct, the next day I drove about 8 miles to the next town and checked again and the oil was only just hitting the dipstick. luckily I had a litre with me, hopefully no damage has been done. I also have used Nano Energizer additive in the past which should offer some level of extra protection.
Great video George, will definitely use it for the oil change in my m57. Just curious, at 10 minutes the engine seems to be moving around a bit - are the mounts on the way out?
@@GeorgeAusters Hey George, the link you shared also has an engine fluid. Would you recommend that? Otherwise it's the 'Brake Cleaner' you used for cleaning right? Thank you :)
Nice work..As always.. Experience with MANNOL oil.? In Slovenia MANNOL is not well known brand, also people doesnt have experience with that oil. Thank you.
Gracias otra vez jorge !! I bought a Ridex filter for my M57n engine and think it was about the cheapest on Autodoc website, and would you believe it had all 3 o rings and a new copper sump washer !! So all good.

I got Mann oil filter for my M57 with just one big o ring, but for M47 a got always 3 rings, weird....
I just purchased a mann filter for m47 and just sump plug ring and oil filter ring(large) was supplied. Euro car parts.
Good video George, I always got a strange reading on my E46 dipstick also after filling recommended amount 😃
Cheers Robbie!

Hi George, great content, really enjoy your vids. Keep up the great work! I hope you will have more N47 engine vids in the future :)
Cheers Chris, yes more on the way in the future!
I enjoy watching your videos good work
Glad you like them!

its just the godly power thats moving it
Was it 5.5 or 6ltr in the end that it took of fresh oil to get it to the max line mate?
5.5
Would you recommend this oil for my 530d E60? Never used this oil before always used Castrol edge but at a high price.
I bought Castrol Edge too, it's like 50% more expensive than most but once or twice a year isn't a big deal.
Is there any trick to make your car level so to read properly oil level ?
Engine flush on daily drive?🤔btw im done with BMW'S but i watch this channel because the british accent sounds pretty awesome😂😍
Guys today I found my oil cap one side open and all the oil spilled over the engine and my question is can the cap be tightened incorrectly

Mannol isn't bad but it's not top of the line. Just use short oil intervals and it's a good oil, especially for the price

Thank you very much!
Hi any chance you could do a fuel filter replacement? Mine is common rail
Already done: ruclips.net/video/Td-X1lVgMXM/видео.html
Is mannol oil a good brand. Does the BMW run good on it. No oil consumption or rough run..
Thanks
Haven't had any issues!
What is the difference between N47 and N57 engine? George
N47 is the 2L diesel and the N57 is the 3L diesel
With that engine movement don't you think that engine mounts are gone?
No I have inspected them and they’re not too bad. Most of the vibration is down to the exhaust. All sorted now👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters what do u mean by that ? can you explain it, I have the same engine in a 1-serie, my engine does that too
Hey What spray have you used to clean the filter housing? Thanks.
brake cleaner loosk like
Hi lad, I had iPad in my hand lol 😂
Damn that was early!
25nm for the oil filter cap
25nm
@@GeorgeAusters so the 25 +/-- 5nm means just the tolerance?
5,2 liters it should be
Nice

can I use Mannol 5W30 LL04 Oil on E53 3.0d 2005? Thanks.
Yes
sounded quiter after that change
Why use flush?
To help breakdown sludge
Defo prime your filter next time to avoid pressure drop on initial start.
How come your engine ran better at ruclips.net/video/cYZ7Z8LA1EQ/видео.html ??? In the begining it was all shaky and lumpy,, kind of.
