Personally, I would be very very pleased if Jesse Plemons got a Supporting Actor nomination for Civil War. In the past, other actors/actresses have won for even shorter screen time. And Plemons absolutely steals the movie in his scene. Weeks after seeing this film, his performance remains my strongest memory of it.
The movies that get nominated are movies that studios select to campaign for to get nominated. Generally, for the most prestigious categories, those are movies released later on in the year, more towards the end, to be fresh on peoples minds. Movies released earlier on are generally forgotten and the studios often don’t really bother too much. So while speculating is fun and something might slip through (perhaps Dune II even though I didn’t care too much for it; Furiosa I think will be pretty much forgotten), we’re gonna have to wait a long time to see what movies the studios release to campaign for.
@@JERSEYBOYPLAY2HARDnot entirely true. Yes, politics play a part but last year half of the acting nominees were first time nominees. Another 5 of the acting nominees hadn’t been nominated in well over a decade or even 2. 2 of the 5 directors were first time nominees as well.
i saw it at Cannes, and I still decide if Coppola's some mad genius or simply mad. However, I was never bored with Megalopolis and it does have some really good virtues. I hope it plays here and people see it and make up their own minds. 2001: A Space Odyssey was also misunderstood and hated by audiences when it was released. Perhaps Megalopolis is a movie ahead of it's time.
The Apprentice is NOT a Hollywood movie. It's directed by an Iranian-Danish director and produced by independent film companies from Ireland, Denmark, Canada and one from the US... and the Hollywood studios are currently reluctant to buy it, although it's been sold all over the world, out of fear, since Trump is currently suing the filmmakers.
Fair enough! I should have said it is an American story starring a handful of A list actors. Thanks for watching and hope you consider subscribing for more videos!
I’ve stood tall in my belief. Day after this year’s Oscar ceremony I predicted Murphy would be handing Gaga the Oscar next year for joker 2! Thanks for watching and I hope you consider subscribing for more!
I'm with you on that. Unlike other sequels, this one is taking big swings and changing up its formula so it will be distinct. Plus, adding Harley means it will likely be a thematic rebuttal to the first one, which is genuinely interesting to think about. I think Gaga and Phoenix are both getting in, easily, and Gaga could possibly win. I wouldn't be surprised if Todd Philips repeated his directing nomination. Lots of BTL support all around. The only thing that's giving me pause is that it's a jukebox musical, rather than having original music. A killer original soundtrack would put it over the edge I think, but has a jukebox musical ever done particularly well at the Oscars? Maybe they still have one or two original numbers to compete in the Song category, I'm not sure.
I wonder if voters will be tired of awarding Joker movies. Heath won, Joaquin won. Would they give Gaga one for another character in yet another Joker movie? If she keeps up with her acting career she could get one at some point but she’s not due.
William Hurt got nominated for A History Of Violence so it wouldn't be the first time if Jesse Plemons would get nominated for Civil War. He dominates the scene he's in
Thanks for watching! I mention that my list is not comprehensive, rather some of the big names in conversation. I will continue talking about other movies as more news begins to come out on certain movies
According to some other channels that focus on musicals, the Wicked trailer only shows scenes that take place in the first act of the musical so that strongly implies that the upcoming movie is a Part One
I’ve seen the musical, and I guess that could be the case. Weird thing is the trailer shows basically the plot structure of the 1st act in its entirety. If this part 1 of two, then my guess is this film ends with defying gravity. I guess that’s fine if you’re selling the musical to film aspect, but if you’re selling someone on the story… well it’s kinda all right in front of you
@@BenFriedman916 To be fair, if you've seen the Wizard of Oz, you have a reasonable idea of where things are heading. Also, trailers just aren't always about spoilers (see: Abigail).

I agree. He was scary as hell in that scene and his presence stayed with me. That's what you call acting.
It might not help that he's uncredited in the film
He might get one for Kinds of Kindness. Either way, totally deserved
While I think he’s also great in Civil War, I think he’s more likely to get nominated for Kinds of Kindness

It’s all politics . Same actors get nominated and same directors .

@@BenFriedman916 It's horse S!@#. Plain and simple made by showbiz liberals who are too cowardly to make such a film about their own politicians.
@@BenFriedman916 Very curious you haven't mentioned Emilia Perez
Everyone is underestimating joker. If the test screening rumors are real then it might sweep the Oscar’s.

Megalopolis isn’t Coppola’s first movie in well over two decades, he also made Twixt (2011).
Yep, my mistake. For some reason I thought it was 2001

I’ll only find it controversial if Dune Part II doesn’t win everything
Is there a new Oscar category for best movie to put audience to sleep?
Actually none of the footage in the Wicked trailer is from the second act of the story. It’s still very much a part one and two.
I still can’t believe you didn’t mention Seed of
The Sacred Fig which was also picked up by Neon. Lmao

Seed of the sacred fig deserves some nominations and wins! Underrated atm

They’ve confirmed it is a Part One and it’s ending with Defying Gravity with Part Two out next year.
People must have been high or in a really good mood watching furiosa because I definitely don’t think it was that good.
Thank you. Furiosa was 3 hours of the Daytona 500, but with motorcycles, and in brown dirt with guns. That’s it
CivilWar was probably the most useless movie that has graced the screen in years. Just stupid
I really like the movie! But it’s not for everyone
nobody cares about Oscars
Well you clicked on it
I care. Thanks for the video, Ben!
Who cares?
I mean you clicked on the video, so, I guess you?
Dune 2 was so boring.
I will never go to another Sebastian Stan movie ever again, EVER!!
Because he agreed to star in a movie about one of the most famous people in the world?
@@BenFriedman916 It's a smeary put down and you know it just all the other anti-conservative movies they make about presidents.
