Your buddy got really lucky lol. I know a ton of people who had terrible fitment issues that grill. Mainly gaps at the top seam. That looked extremely easy
The FL5 Type R is just how Mitsubishi killed the Eclipse. They took a sexy, aggressive, daring automobile and 'adulted' it, then it died and was discontinued. The FL5 looks like a generic, 'adulted' 11th gen Civic, add rear spoiled (I do like the new spoiler better that the FK8 spoiler) and red Type R logo. More HP and TQ make it a bit faster, but that's just a change in the factory tune. The optional CUP2 tires give it a way faster lap time. Give an FK8 the same power and the same tires and it'll be exactly as fast as the FL5. Visually speaking, FK8: daring and sexy. FL5: generic and boring. It's a damn shame that every video I watch about installing this very expensive grill, the installers comment on the fitment. I factory 2020-2021 grill is $190 and fits perfectly every time. For well over $600 and having to get it painted on top of that, their grill should also fit perfectly. You guys did an awesome job, one of the best videos of the installation and it looks the best. Nothing looks as good as the J's Racing grill. If they improve their QC and fitment, I'll purchase one.

quick question, does your fk8 leak oil between the engine and the firewall? I heard this is quite common on them.

Type R needs a J’s grill to reduce the possibility of over heating. Now it’s a more functional front bumper than factory.
It's a Civic Type R with quality aftermarket parts... It's more like buying a Monet and upgrading it to a Picasso
